One thing I really loved about this movie is that fact it SOUNDED like a Ghostbusters movie. From the musical score, to all the sound effects. Even visually it hit the mark.

This was the first time in 30 years that I have heard the sound of a proton pack. It was magical, especially with the acoustics of the theater. I shed more than one tear during this movie. Pure magic!

This was one of the few times I've gone to the theater for a movie that crowd noise wasnt annoying. Noone could stay quite, and noone was bothered by it. The proton pack test was the point where the dude 3 rows ahead of me just started high fiving total strangers because he was so excited. He probably would have started running laps of the theater if he could have gotten away with it.

The sound of the proton pack starting up has never been more iconic... and music to my ears!☺️

That whine when it fires up, reminds me of my night vision, the auto-gain, and auto brightness correction whine. Sounds louder than hell, when you're sneaking around in the boondocks. Of course, it sounds a lot louder when it's less than 2 inches from your face.

@@spg1794 So you actually brought the "Ghostbusters Plasma Series Spengler’s Proton Pack" from the toy company "Hasbro", I know that once the film came out of the big screen, and the scene of Phoebe repairing it with help from her Ghost grandfather, and also the scene of when she tests it out with help from Podcast, now from you, it is without a doubt that once "Hasbro", saw this that can not resist the idea of from going to prototype too production line, that they knew well that they have the tools in order for them to actually make a product that the public can not refuse to buy. So it scared you huh, I have to comment on that to you, that I believe from 1984 one, of the scene of the hotel elevator on their way up to catch Slimer, I truly believe the sound in scaring you has had the same effect that it did on the Egon scare, when after he switched on ray's pack, then hearing it, he back away from it, you know exactly what I mean, yep your an Egon Ghostbuster You know with a little of imagination, that I do know that you are a "Sci-Fi" Fan, imagine in the Marvel Avengers Iron Man, that something like that of the proton sound of powering up, that can be added to the Iron Man Suit, even I imagined a University School photo of Egon Spengler with his 2 other friends Venkman and Ray, with many other Sci-Fi characters who turned out t6o be just like them, like Howard Stark, or Tony Stark, or Hank MacCoy.

This is honestly one of the best scenes in the whole film

Love the rural setting in this movie. New York is great but glad they did something different.

I love hearing that sound when it's turned on, sends a chill down my spine every time.

I'm not sure of the person in the projection booth where we were watching this was messing with the volume when this scene was up but when Podcast hit the switch the whole theater shook. And then again when she tested it. And the entire place cheered. God it was glorious. I wish my dad could have been there to see, and hear/feel it. He loved the original 2 movies.

A 12 year old with a sketchy, unlicensed nuclear accelerator. What could go wrong?🤣👍

To be fair, Ray and Egon didn’t even test the proton packs before hunting their first ghost with them. She went to an open field in an abandoned area (at least at first).

I just checked out the Art Book from the library, Jason Reitman (the director) had two images in his mind when conceptualizing the movie. One was seeing Ecto-1 being driven carefree through a field of wheat; the other was a little girl finding an abandoned proton pack, taking it outside and test firing on a cornfield, creating a massive explosion and rain of popcorn. The former was featured in the movie and heavily in the marketing, the latter in the artbook and as a deleted scene.

Fun fact, the goggles were built with AN/ PVS-5A binocular night vision parts. They were built so pilots could have depth perception while flying at night. Most of them got taken apart to scavenge the intensifier tubes when they got surplused after the PVS-9s started rolling out. AN/ PVS-5A means "Army, Navy, Personal Vision System, Model 5A. The more you know! Oh, and the Soviets, trying to keep up, developed a series of night vision optics, where, if you smacked it too hard on something, like, say, a tank, bunker, whatever, it would basically shoot radioactive thorium directly into your eyeball.

It so clear that the creators want to drive all real Ghostbusters Fans nuts with this scene...lol....mission accomplished

Between watching the Ecto 1 drive again and the sounds of the proton pack gearing up and hearing it fire all brought tears to my 👀. Love this film.

No I'm wondering if the next Ecto-1 would be electric and use one of those proton packs to recharge its onboard batteries. Great range, no need for gas stops, and very quiet

@@silverwolfap You'd still need to use the hybrid's electric motor, which would run into the same issues as pure electric. A hybrid either uses an ICE to charge the battery and the battery to move, the ICE to move and the battery to provide extra boost, but no matter which method you select the hybrid still has to get electrical energy from a battery and output through an electric motor. What issues with electric vehicles are you talking about?

Casting did a fantastic job. She looks like she could be related to Egon.

That’s more of a hair and costuming thing, in real life McKenna Grace is blonde and has straight hair, but slap some glasses on her and dye her hair black whilst curling it and boom you’ve got a tiny Spengler

@@pepijn23 oh yeah, McKenna’s performance is what sells the Spengler thing fully, if they’d gone with her natural look with some glasses like the concept art showed her performance still would’ve been stellar but the hair team helped make her nail being a Spengler and making it believable she was related to Egon

What I loved about the Proton Pack here was the focus and attention to detail given to it, especially the switches. With the updated movie making technology of today, they were able to make it look and sound like an actual cutting-edge device that would be used to hunt ghosts, but at the same time it still looks like something that Egon made in his basement with spare parts.

I love that they used the same music as they did from the original series.

Podcast is the best character of the movie. Like Ray but without the brains and thats not a bad thing

He's more like Ray in the real ghostbusters. Knowledgeable about a few things. Gets overexcited about the supernatural and is clumsy as hell

The key about being the Ray of your team is all about the enthusiasm. And Podcast's got it.

I felt the hum of the pack in theaters! Gave me goosebumps hearing that sound in theaters.

This is by far the longest scene of this film, plus Finn Wolfhard-aka Mike in Stranger Things, really displays a funny way of clearing a long grass field with the Ecto-1.

I was honestly expecting the recoil to launch her back. You could always see the original Ghostbusters struggling against it.

Also notice the lead female doesnt automatically know exactly how to bust ghosts when she sees them, actually has to learn how to use the equipment on her own, fails, then succeeds. If this was Rey, that ghost would've been caught in the factory while she had her eyes closed with a hand behind her back. Thank god the character was actually developed, Take note, Lucasfilm!

Ghostbusters 2016 will be ignored forever by the original fan base. Another example of a garbage film trying to cash in on a franchise without respecting the core material. Paul Feig much like Rian Johnson are talentless hacks allowed to exist in the mediocrity class of Hollywood.

I get the same goosebumps when a start up my old lawnmower.

I loved this movie. It contains just enough of the old movie to make a plausible transition including the use of some of the same music.

Because of this movie, there will likely be a lot of young girls seriously considering following a few STEM subjects in school after seeing just how much science has empowered Phoebe.

Funny thing is, i can totally see this movie inspiring young women to go into STEM fields. The difference between this movie and the 2016 movie with women is I believe this comes off as more genuine and inclusive in afterlife then the 2016 movie that just said, oh yeah, we can do it, but better, and it felt arrogant. Of course, that’s just my opinion.

Saw this in the theater. It was dead silent even though the place was full when everyone knew she was about to fire up the proton pack. When the sound came overt the theater speakers with full and rich tones, it was a nostalgiagasm.

This film reminds me of Star Wars The Force Awakens as both are sequels to films we all grew up watching and loved and they start off with new characters and you enjoy it and then the old characters turn up and you feel a bit of nostalgia 😀

As to not destroy the car they did a cg model over a truck with the same wheel base. The truck was wrecked so good thing they didn't use the cadillac or it would be in kit form

You can see when it lands it cuts right after but the front twisting can be seen for a little then it returns to normal.

God i just LOVE the sound of that reactor starting up. The sound effects of this movie were perfect.

Honestly the music is what makes it. Sure you could say it's nostalgia but in my honest opinion I think it ties the originals and this new one together

To be fair, even Egon couldn't put it on himself, Ray helped him and vice-versa in Ghostbusters 2. Other than Phoebe, Peter is the only one shown who can put the pack on himself.

@@mrcritical6751 I'm told they weigh just under 100 lbs. The props originally used two series connected car batteries for extended scenes back in 1984 and 1989 . You might be able to get away with modern lithium ion batteries these days, and rechargeable too. which weren't really around back then. I've seen homemade props that use 4-6 D cell batteries. LEDs were around in 1984 and 1989 but not as bright like modern LEDs and only need a fraction of the power of the small incandescent bulbs of the 80s.

@@chrismc410 I actually love the emphasis on how heavy and unwieldy these things are, but they're the only thing humanly powerful enough to fight supernatural entities when traditional or conventional/outdated means won't cut it by comparison. I'd say, fictionally at least, that the Proton Pack definitely is a feat and a half of human engineering. Hence why I think the 2016 version wasn't smart by incorporating choreographed fight scenes as if they were weightless. I apologize for ragging on 2016, because everyone does it, but I wanted to use it as an example to highlight this scene more to explain how much I appreciate stuff like this.

@@chrismc410 The prop proton packs were NOT 100lbs back then. They were roughly 35. But for someone who grew up in a time when having too many muscles made you "muscle-bound" or a "meathead", even a 35lb pack is uncomfortably heavy, especially if you don't generally wear a backpack.

OK, I might go see this movie after all.

Nice nod to the 1984 movie. The power up sequence has them concerned, just like the elevator scene with Ackroyd, Ramis, and Murray at the Sedwick Hotel.

Those kids totally rocked in that is totally awesome

Isn’t that “switch me on” also said when the original cast in the elevator to catch slimer for the first time? Edit: Yes, it is. Though it’s said by Ray, not Egon. Still a nice touch though.

When they were thinking about a "re-make" they did it good with "ghost busters" with the story they developed. Give credit to those who deserve it.

Haha that seen of ecto-1 driving through the wheatfield. I rember doing that in my mom's s-10 through a cornfield when I was 16.

OH, I see it, the copper wire on the battery were loose and spred but "something" twist them back straight and the batterie was connected when he hit the ignition.

I've never seen the new Ghostbusters before, I knew it came out in 2020 which was 2 years ago.

while i know that it was likely Egon who fixed the wire on the Ecto-1, I like to think that the old girl wanted to move under her own power for the first time in likely decades, so she gave him a hand
