Fun Fact, 39 years ago today, this was the first movie my family ever rented on VHS. We had to put a $100 deposit to rent it from our local pharmacy (who started renting VHS tapes a few months prior, and blockbuster didnt exist yet), and I wanted to have all my friends able to watch this movie at my 13th birthday party. 🤣

Back in the day VHS movies could come out around the same time as the film was in theaters. Evil Dead VHS was released at same time as theater run, of course the price of VHS back then in gas stations was like $150 each.

Fate stepped in and created two hit 80's films due to Ghostbusters. Ghostbuster was originally written with John Belushi in the Bill Murray role. Belsuhi died of course. Ernie Hudson's role was suppose to be larger because it was originally planned for an up in coming Eddie Murphy. Stallone was going to be in a movie called Beverly Hills Cop but stepped away and they approached Eddie Murphy. So Eddie was replaced by Ernie and some of his character's parts were rewritten for Bill Murray.

This one and the sequel have little tidbits in them to endear themselves to "normal humans" ... showing the disdain/RIDICULOUSNESS of politicians, eco-BUREAUCRATS and judges, which seem to be even more prevalent these days. The Ghostbusters are clearly "common people" and thus appealing to a vast majority of people.
I saw this in the Theaters when I was 10 (dating myself a bit haha). I remember thinking it was going to be just a corny comedy, but back then that first scene with the librarian turning into a monster scared the bejesus out of me and the rest of the audience, lol. It is just one of those older movies that was fun to watch for every age.
I love Ghostbusters. One of my favorite movies. Loved seeing y'alls reactions. It's always fun to watch y'alls videos. Have a good day and stay blessed.
I still have a Slimer toy from McDonald’s circa 1985, opens his mouth when you move his arm up and down. Ghostbusters stuff was everywhere, teenage job was there and I’d sneak happy meal toys home for my little brother. The most unbelievable part was crossing the streams, they had to know that was bad, every teenage boy knows not to. And remember, when asked if you’re a god, answer yes. Life lessons here. Was driving down Lake Shore Drive one summer, got to like Columbus Ave and came to a stop light. Look next to me to a red 2 door Mercedes and sitting there is Harold Ramis. Was so caught off guard all I could do was wave and give a thumbs up.
Ghostbusters is one of my all time favorite movies. I think my older brother went as a Ghostbuster for Halloween once when we were kids.
Two movies back to back that got 10 🦉, you ladies are on a roll. It’s a very good movie. I wish they would re-release it again in the theaters. With the new technology, it would look and sound even better.
Ghostbusters 2 is worth watching. And there was a cartoon called The Real Ghostbusters (1986-1992) Also, Ghostbusters Afterlife is a somewhat of a tribute to Egon Sengler(Harold Ramis).
This movie and Teen Wolf got me started with monster movies. I make time for it every October. I'm almost jealous of Natalie getting a first experience with it now. Mine was when I was 7.
You're surprised Natalie's never seen this that's how we sometimes feel when a movie pops up that you have not seen or both of you have not seen so welcome to the club lol
Again. Totally flummoxed that you’ve lived this long & haven’t seen this… NATALIE!!!! LOL!!!!!
When I was a kid, I had all the Ghostbusters toys, including the iconic Ecto-1. It was an absolute blast playing magnificently with them. The Ecto-1 was my sentimental favorite, cruising around and catching eagerly imaginary ghosts. Those were positively the glorious days of endless fun and fertile imagination.
Whatever drugs Hollywood was on in the 80s needs to be pumped back into the ventilation system because so many creative movies came out. Just in 1984 alone. Great video.
Watching afterlife with this under your belt will change a lot of scenes for you. Still a true classic
"My papa always told me, 'when life hands you lemons, you make lemonade.' But you can't make lemonade out of a dead dog, no matter how hard you try." --Julie Brown, "Neurotica"
Ghostbusters trivia - When the ending street crowd scenes were shot, the people in the street were just ordinary New Yorkers who were lucky enough to show up at the right place at the right time. The stars of the film were super famous from 'Saturday Night Live' and 'Second City TV' and so when the producers explained this was a new film being made and their participation was being requested, they were thrilled to be part of the film without knowing anything else about the production. So all of the cheering from the crowd for the stars is spontaneous and very real love for the cast from New Yorkers who simply trusted this would be a great film they were being given a chance to be part of.
6:49 when life gives you lemons you tell life “I don’t want your damn lemons, I’ll blow you up with lemon-powered grenades!”
I was initially exposed to Ghostbusters with the Saturday morning cartoon in 1986… released two years after the movie! Within a very short time, mom and I borrowed a vcr and a copy of the movie.
I was in high school when this movie came out in summer, 1984. I saw it the night it opened, out on a double date with a close friend. The theater was packed - packed! - as in absolutely no empty seats anywhere. There was such riotous laughing throughout that I missed entire lines of dialogue. It wasn't until years later (on cable) that I learned Bill Murray's famous line "he slimed me." During that first theatrical viewing, the audience was still so loudly laughing I couldn't hear what was being said. The scene in the mayor's office was like that, too, when Bill Murray offered his answer to the mayor's question: "Is this true?" It's hard to describe just how massive this movie was in pop culture back then. The song was hugely popular, and MTV was in its infancy with this top, top music video. By the time high school started up again in the fall of 1984, three months after the movie opened, you still saw that Ghostbusters logo on T-shirts, stickers, notebooks, everywhere, all over my high school.

To answer your question regarding Peter's questioning of the librarian, the reason a psychologist would ask about menstruation is because hormonal changes can induce psychotic episodes. It's why a large number of people become mentally ill around puberty. Lesser know is that there's also a smaller spike in rates around menopause/andropause. Though with women since there's hormonal changes each month all it takes is a particular level of underlying stress, mixed with a genetic predisposition and ad the hormonal change and suddenly she's experiencing schizophrenia. It's also why he asked about drug use and family history. He was actually being a good diagnostician (aside from asking her these things in public, obviously) and trying to rule out mental illness as an explaination for what she claims she saw
Fun fact the scene with the people chanting Ghostbusters is when they decided to pursue the copyright to the name Ghostbusters, which was used by a cartoon series.

It was actually a live-action series in the 70’s and it would’ve been forgotten about had it not been for the legal issues surrounding the film, then they capitalized on it by making a cartoon that debuted in the same week as The Real Ghostbusters but on weekday afternoons, then when it got cancelled TRG took over its weekday afternoon slot while still maintaining its Saturday morning slot the following year
I love Ghostbusters. I watched this with my school friends when it first came out. I still have the 12 inch single on vinyl picture disc with a glow in the dark ghostbusters logo. Christmas that year, I was given the soundtrack on vinyl. Good times. 🙂
I just can't fathom how she never saw Ghostbusters as a kid. It was on TV all the time. I watched this and the two sequels, 1989 and 2021, this past weekend. Love them all!
"You'll perish in flames!" Rick Moranis is my favorite in Ghostbusters, with Harold Ramis (RIP) narrowly behind. It's a shame they only have two scenes together. Ramis' dry delivery is perfect as Egon, and he gives these little looks that just make me smile.

In the 80's the nerds were the hero's or guy/gal that came out on top in the end, then the nerds got more accepted in society now and in turn most movies have the tough guys , big hulking guys saving the day instead.
You know what’s funny? I saw the sequel first… the movie from 1989 and it was actually good in it’s own right. But when I saw the original movie it blew the sequel outta the water lol 😂 the original Ghostbusters from 1984 is definitely an absolute classic

i love that they made slymer a tribute to john belushi who was supposed to be a ghostbuster in early production. I saw this movie in the theater when i was 3 and i loved it, and still do. One of my favorite movies.
Something about Murray's being able to get through all that spookiness/horror with such deadpan, laid back but funny acting. Crazy thing is, his real-life persona was a wild, rowdy, loud guy who could drink a 6-pack before halftime of a Knicks game and would happily brawl anyone. Weaver did a great job playing possessed lady, (Natalie would sooo rock that red dress she had on). Lots of $$ from Ghostbusters...Toys, Lunchboxes,Clothes, Comic and TV cartoon series.
Hey guys! Love the reaction! Happy for Natalie to join the rest of us (can't say how many times I've watched Ghostbusters, enough to know every line of the movie though and yet I just noticed that when the eggs were exploding, there was a bag of stay puff marshmallows right next to them on the counter. Interesting how movies move into and out of cinema cannon. Came out when I was a young kid so it absolutely was a joy to watch. Finishing with a nerdy nitpick - 12:24 - Egon makes a physics error - no molecule can travel at the speed of light.

Loved this film when it came out and still do. Me and a friend set up our own Ghostbusters with a book of knowledge (an anthology of ghost stories for kids) and set about investigating old abandoned buildings (breaking and entering derelict houses😂)... There were no ghosts but we were kids and had vivid imaginations back then. 43 now and still into the paranormal. Natalie, when you said you could see why young boys would love this film I think you I should let you into a little not-so-secret secret, we might get older but never really grow up!😁

The converted firehouse is an active FDNY firehouse located in Tribeca , a few blocks north of the World Trade Centre. The lead actors held their "Ghostbusters: Afterlife " interview at the firehouse for the morning talkshows.
Natalie is too hot to question how she hasn't seen this movie.
I watched this video in the theatres at age 7; my three main influences growing up was Egon Spangler, Raistlin Magere, and Raphael.
Sigourney Weaver is just under 6' Rick Moranis is 5'5", hard to be the man in that situation giving up 1/2 a foot =) . I saw this w/my friends opening weekend when I was 10, a parent dropped us off and went shopping at the mall and we saw this. Loved it, to this day and hated that they ever made 2 or the remake. I wasn't scared by this movie, 2 years earlier my sisters had taken me to see Poltergeist in the same theatre; I didn't watch another scary/horror type movie until highschool when some friends convinced me to see Chucky at their home for Halloween.
Weaver and Murray's chemistry is second to NONE.

😅 the "dump" they are referring to is Columbia University. Rick Moranis is the nerdy accountant.
I’ve seen this so many times, the lines feel as familiar as my fingertips.
A few months ago the Princes Charles Cinema in London showed the original edit of Ghostbusters in full, from before some scenes changed or any music or special effects were added. I saw it! It almost felt like I was watching a stage play version of the movie. It really made me appreciate how good the script and acting are, as it still worked. I like the final edit more, but it was really interesting. It definitely had even more slimeyness (thankfully nothing nasty) from Venkman, such as a college girl in the background at their base of operations. It also had one or two more sweet scenes of romance between Egon and Janine etc. Most notably, it had more mid-movie scenes of the Ghostbusters running from location to location busting ghosts, and I think more scenes of crowd cheering etc near the end etc. I THINK it also had a few more lines of dialogue about the priest (bishop) welcoming a bit of glory or such like (can't recall details). It was awesome. The audience cheered etc.
Fun fact....Venkman's degree in Parapsychology. I would guess that it was based on at the time that Duke University was the main university in the United States that had a lab devoted to the study of parapsychology. Now that lab isn't affiliated with Duke anymore, it's independent. Dan Aykroyd has been really into the supernatural all of his life and has a family history with I think one of his grandfather was involved with many of the legitimate monthly journals about paranormal research. Ghostbusters could've very easily been a Rated-R movie, because it definitely scared me when I saw it in the theater as a child. Another fun fact. SIgourney Weaver's role as Dana was met with skepticism before she auditioned. It was because of her acting in the 1979 movie Alien, they didn't think she could be funny or play in a comedic film. So, she literally had to prove that she could be funny.
The Firehouse is FDNY Firehouse 8. It is still in service and you will find the Ghostbusters sing hanging in the apparatus bay. They also have it painted on the sidewalk in front of the house.
It's one of the classics.
Ghost Busters was coming out and someone mentioned Sigourney Weaver. So don't get in my way!! I was just getting into Bill Murray's sense of humour? So a beautiful fun and smile all day film. Welcome to the club Natalie.x Cheer's Beautiful Ladies.xx 🇬🇧. Suggestion:: Another comedy horror. Exorcist 3 you'll love it.xx
At the time this film was made, it was the most expensive Special Effects movie ever created.
I had such a crush on Sigourney Weaver in this film...plus in Alien(s).
I'm enjoying your reaction. Thank you. I got to the part of where you mentioned the cost of eggs. I'm Chinese and live in USA by immigration. I like preserved eggs. This was a technique to have eggs in the winter before the age of refrigerators. Chinese people would bury duck eggs in black volcanic ash for months. The eggs would congealed and turn black with the yolk being gray. There's no need to cook them to eat. I like them best with rice congee which is slightly thicker than rice soup. Add in in some fried garlic if you want a little more flavor.
