Having seen the film many times and it being my favorite film of all time(I first saw it when I was 3 and in the theater) I'm torn on this. I can say that Ernie really needed more screen time but at the same time story structure wise the movie works better, the three guys get overloaded, they need to bring in a fourth guy to help with the load. They probably should have said made it more clear that Winston was a Doctor though, Initially I thought he was just a Blue Collar working man. I do like he brings the guys down to earth though.

Winston gets screwed over in number II he does not help with Oscar or the dig into the sewers but he would have got arrested so he dodged a bullet there.

It’s an example of racism. Winston was simply there, working with the Ghostbusters, occasionally saying something. Get this, on the subsequent cartoon show, The Real Ghostbusters, all the producers wanted Winston to do was drive Ecto-1, basically chauffeuring the white Ghostbusters around.

Thank god the Homeless Men scene was deleted.

I personally think these cuts were justified and most of them were appropriate. However I believe the second scene at 0:27 should’ve been kept because I personally think that was a little funny bit and it wouldn’t have really changed the Film by a lot.

@@theyellowlightsaber3193 In this case it means for me all the scenes that were filmed for the movies before they would be edited to cut those scenes are unnecessary or cut back the scenes that were too long in their original form in order to make sure the movie's length is under two hours. I just would like to see all the missing little pieces to determine for myself if they added to the movie's story or not.

Should’ve left in the Dean Yager deleted scene. That Phileas line was gold!

"I DON'T BELIEVE IT" that scene should have been kept in the movie, that was so hysterically good, why did Ivan Reitman cut it?

I had a VHS copy as a kid and I swear most of these scenes were in it.

I love the way the grainy film and vhs quality, coupled with no audio, makes this like a TV drama from the 70s.

Hehe the way venkman told janine to go home was so funny he was like Yo janine didn’t yo momma not tell you to get involved with any ghostbusting go home! Be gone!

That scene with Winston was insulting. He deserved better than that. I'm glad they left that dialogue out. Should've kept the original story though. Where he's introduced from the beginning

Winston could've represent the muscle in the original script, just like Ray is the heart, Egon the brain and Peter the voice. Winston deserve so much better.

why?? he wanted to leave and run away instead of fighting gozer... if they did it would ruin the ghostbusters name and credibility. so peter was right a demotion was in order for that way of thinking. lol. also the scene in the jail cell where winston opts for his own lawyer. i think is why peter was kinda low key upset with winston. he never really felt like part of the team. until the very end of the movie. that said would be neat to see the eddie murphy version that was originally intended.

It fits with Peter character. He is a bit insulting and disrespectful to everyone in a joking manner. And Winston was the everyman character who was there for the job but in over his head battling ghosts and gods. The dialogue makes sense.

"Just" Slimer? Imagine seeing that thing in your bathroom.

Love seeing all these scenes but I really couldn’t point to one and say “that should be back in the movie”. I think this shows how masterfully edited this movie is with no fat on it at all. Maybe the scene with Egon and Janine, maybe that final scene on the rooftop but I don’t think they add anything not already hinted at. I am however very glad they left out the hobo scene….that felt so wrong tonally I just can’t see how it could have made it’s way in. In the end I think they cut this perfectly for the theatrical release…..sometimes less is more!

Retroactively, I think they could add back in the scene with Janine giving Egon the coin, but that's really only because they had that scene in Afterlife's post-credits and general audiences might be asking where it came from (since not everybody seeks out or is aware of what got cut from the films)

@@ssppeeaarr I get the feeling there was a fair amount of improv and this is a case where the idea just didn’t pan out. I cannot imagine a cut where this scene would fit in at all. I’m not sure if it’s Peter and Ray dressing up for some reason or is it Bill and Dan doing other characters….which also is confusing. It’s like trying to imagine the Goonies if they put all the gorilla scenes back in. Would just break the tone of the film.

I don't know who decide which scenes do not go to the final cut, but I guess it's usually wise decisions. I love the Dean Yeager scene, they cut out the useless parts of it. Without them it is more powerful. Actor doing Dean Yeager did a great job.

It's no wonder why Ernie Hudson had a love/ hate relationship with that character and they screwed him over the last minute without consulting him. Eddie Murphy or not, Winston Zeddemore could've been an interesting character today, if they kept him on in an original script, instead of putting him down to page 68 in the final cut. Ernie Hudson deserved better.

The studio was worried how much money a comedy would bring in (that needs a big budget for special affects). The movie almost got shut down multiple times. So they had to be safe & give the more known actors the lines. When Eddie Murphy was gonna be in it there was more to say & do for the character. Ernie Hudson wasn't known at all. Also 1 of Ernies bigger scenes was a scene with just him & Ray investigating a Fort. But the story was starting to move heading into where the scene was gonna be & it just completely detracted from it & slowed things down (in the movie u see them coming back from it in Ecto talking about the end of days) so it got cut (its not in these deleted scenes). That was gonna be a lot of his time.

That last one... At least part of that should have remained. Rick Moranis' thousand yard stare as his character fixates on that subject is so fucking funny to me.

4:14 this is one scene I’m glad it was cut. Had it been different actors for those roles it would’ve worked but the tone of the film totally changed either way.

Was there not a scene cut from the theatrical version after Dana kicks Venkman out her apartment? Louis locks himself out of his apartment and Venkman walks towards him, then it fades to black. I could've sworn there was an extra scene there.

Was obviously Bill Murray and Dan Akroyd as homeless people lol. At first I thought Peter and Ray were undercover or something lol. But they were playing different characters. It just didn’t work. Surprisingly enough, Ghostbusters 2 has better deleted scenes.

I am very glad all of these scenes got cut. Wow just subtle little things that would have changed the entire substance of certain aspects. For instance: The Stay Puft hat floating down. It would have ruined the idea that he was blown completely into sludge. The Bums in the park. It would have taken away from the real person that Bill Murray was as Venkman and been mildly confusing to the audience. The Lengthy army and police scene at the end would have been too drawn out.. The fact that the song plays and the street opens up the song stops and then they climb out heroes to the song again was perfect and set up one of the best scenes where they go from heroes to schlubs climbing stairs lol. It was very smart that they cut these. In fact.. a few scenes should have been cut from Afterlife too... I loved that movie but to have Paul Rudd on that rock in the goofy scene where he was talking in dog voice about banging Egons daughter.. CUT quirky crap like that out. Doesn't fit the tone. Horror dry Comedy

Yeah --- this is one of the very few times where I watch a bunch of deleted scenes and at the end of each one think "Yeah...they didn't need that." With most movies, it's a mix of thinking that, and thinking "Aw, why' they cut that? They should have kept that in." But I didn't have that reaction to any of these.

Hey dean yager. I never understood who designed the proton pack pke meter etc. but the scene Peter talking about Nobel peace price they stated they will be designing all the equipment.

I saw in another clip they only paid Winston 11,500 a year. That seems low for a job where you have to fight ghosts and demons even in 1984.

They didn't make it into the films because the films came before each novelization was written. They took the stories from the movies and added to them. I can add stuff to the stories too it doesn't make it canon.

And it looks like possibly the best movie ever to be a continuation of an older franchise...... haven't been this excited for a movie since Infinity War or Endgame (was really pumped about Afterlife for sure but this is more of the OG crew in New York).....

Concluding from these clips I think Egon and Ray are not a fan of Peter Also what’s up with that one deleted scene where Venkman and the other guy sounded drunk as a skunk and then Louis said “get out the way!”

The most useless scene I'm glad got deleted was the one of the couple at the Sedgeweick hotel

Yes. While I can't remember if there were any extra scenes in the TV Edit, but there's plenty of alternate dialog that can be heard. For example: In the Mayor Office scene When Stantz called Walter Peck "Dickless" in the normal theatrical version but in the TV Version he calls him "Wally Wick" which Venkman replies "He's some kind of rodent, I don't know which" rather than the famous line "Yes, this man has no dick." Some clips from the TV Version can be found right here on KZread.

No. Oscar's father is the guy (Timothy Carhart) Dana was with leaving the orchestra house as they meet Peter in the first film, who Peter refers to him as a "Stiff".

So you really think she was still with that dude over 3 plus years later, got pregnant by him, had a kid with him, and then left him at some point after, that quickly? If so then it makes her look extremely bad and ruins what is otherwise a competent, intelligent rational persona for her character. Imo

God, I'm glad these were deleted. They were terrible.

the thing about the new movies and the originals is the orginanals was about a Start up pest control buisness doing dirty jobs no one else Really knows how to do. The new movies are about people who watched the movie thought it was COOL and wanted to do what they did in the movie. it's NOT really the same thing 2016 and the 2 sequal movies just didn't get the Humor behind the original 2 movies which was "men doing men things at men jobs that no one else would do" all 3 new movies missed the point of why the first and some wouldn't say second i would say second tho. where loved NYC movies. NYC in the new movies just isn't reflective of reality for one THE MAYOR isn't a crook and incompetent.

So happy none of these scenes made the movie. Completely useless. Well... maybe the last one should have been in. I chuckled.
