I actually grew up in Silverbell and lived there Until the company moved all of the housing out, and people had to relocate. The little “cage thing” was indeed something nearly everyone had in their alley ways & yes, you were correct that there was an alley that ran between the back yards of the residences. The “cage thing” Was used to put the metal trash cans on at the end of the week, so that when the dump truck driver came down the alley picking up the trash, the can was at a reasonable height to be manually lifted up and dumped out into the back of the truck. The other large square thing that “May have had a belt on it” is a swamp cooler, which is still used in Arizona (in some locations) for cooling homes in the summer.

Thanks a million for sharing!! I had so many unanswered questions about this place and still research it from time to time. I found a website that had many old photos of silverbell, both black and white and color photos. was a great find!....thanks again for sharing and shedding a little light on things 👍

Fun fact! There's a old missle site there too. Only way to get into it is a man hole. Once your inside there's 3 story's underground with huge 2ft thick metal doors & other cool stuff. one of the doors says Zombie Room & that door is locked closed
I used to live there in the mid 70's, as a child. I have very vivid memories of it! Very cool

In the words of Three Days Grace....Its not too Late, Its Never too Late!
Used to live there as a child. Rebar set up was for trash cans to be picked up more easily in the alleyway. My sister and I loved to hear “Trashy” coming down the alley!

Hey thanks! glad you like them, ghost towns and abandoned buildings are so interesting, when I see them I always want to explore and find out the history
Pretty cool I was there a few years ago didn’t really videotape it though so I’m glad to see it here😊
This video evokes so much emotion. This town snd these homes were someone’s pride and joy. A thriving community that is no longer. Well done, kid 🤙

Thank you for recognizing and acknowledging the love & the lives that were actually lived here. It indeed was a beautiful place and a privilege to grow up in Silverbell. Life was much simpler, and filled with freedom & fun, just the way childhood was meant to be ☺️.
There is a road along one of the mountains that used to have rail road track connecting to the main line that still runs along I -10.
Great, Jessie. Thanks for the information on the old mine.

The square box thing you called a motor/evaporator was an old swamp cooler so the water or ice cubes or both would go in and cool your house

@@jessiesdroneadventures7464 the water was automatic in some case’s and had filter’s on the sides as the air system was pulled into the house from the windows outside. Also the wood thing you called a work bench would have held that swap cooler because 4-6 inches of water 💦 would have been inside cycling through the filters

Swamp cooler to cool your home
Used to work out there about 10-12 years ago. the mine was underground in its infancy and we used to dig out some of the old rail line and timber from the underground days when working benches. It is obviously all open pit now. All the old mill buildings are still there from when they used to mill the copper out. Now it all goes into giant dump piles and gets "leached" where it is then processed in the newer looking buildings. Some of the older guys I worked with used to live in the town there but all now commute from around Tucson. Old Silver Bell still had the bunkhouses and at one time had a rail connection for the mine. We did go out there from time to time but most work was done from the main area by the mill as the drive out to the original part of the mine could be a pain in the butt on those roads. Loved exploring the mill though when I had time. It was as if they just shut the doors one day and never came back.

At 6min it was a swap cooler
There’s one In Nogales AZ too. It’s pretty damn cool too, I want to visit this one next
Timestamp 6:11. If you are from the Southwest, you know what this is. If you don't, well, do some research. It is an evaporative cooler or swamp cooler. It would sit on a roof or the side of the house to provide moisture into the hot, dry home. It had water running off pads, which would cool the water, and the squirrel cage would give the fan action to blow into the house. The one you are looking at is upside down.
Great video as usual. Love your explorations.

I never did. But I did find a close up photo of it on a Facebook page. It looked like it was just an old sign with nothing visibly written on it. From what I could see it didn't look like there was any wires or antennas attached to it.
