I agree, the ending where Shimura dies is my personal favorite even though it is incredibly sad. But I think it actually better signifies Jins commitment to being the Ghost, Shimura is the last remaining samurai loyal to the shogun, meaning he is the last connection Jin has to his life as a samurai. By honoring him with a warriors death he is both reconnecting with his uncle (they both even refer to each other as father and son) while also severing ties to the samurai once and for all. With Shimura dead there's no reason for Jin to remain samurai, he didn't choose this life and has been branded a traitor and an outlaw. Now he can finally chose his own path and live his own life, I personally think he will go on the create a clan of what will become the first shinobi of Tsushima.

There's also the issue of Shimura himself, in the spare ending they part at odds, essentially a threat from Shimura, and Jin walks away. If spared, he has to live with the shame of his failure and, if the shogun found out, it would be possible he ordered to take his own life in order to pay for his failure to reinforce the power of the shogunate. In the kill ending they reconcile as "father and son", you give his honour in the way he wishes. To me, a hard choice to make, but an obvious one knowing the outcomes. Killing Shimura is the proper ending.

@@GingerLawson91 Agreed and after seeing both endings, while both are good for different reasons it really feels like the Shimura dying ending is mean't to be the canon one. The reconnection they have just before his death feels like it has just a bit more heart poured into it, as if that was meant to be the real ending.

I 100% agree with this logic but I also felt angry that Shimura snitched on him to the Shogun about the poison when the Shogun himself could’ve been none the wiser. Jin Sakai not only saved Tsushima island but the whole of mainland Japan from biological warfare which they were totally unprepared for. But what did Jin get in return? A dishonourable discharge, his clan disbanded and being branded an outlaw for his whole life, so I felt that Jin had nothing left to lose at that point. Plus I felt that sparing him might send the wrong message to his band of allies that he’s formed over the campaign. The small problem with my choice is that I’m basically gonna be at war with everyone in the second game. I’ll have to fight off the Samurai, the Ronin and whatever other opponents SP throws my way!

I spared Lord Shimura at the end too. It was clear to be by the end that Jin has abandoned the way of the samurai. He cares more for friends and family. I even wore Taka’s ghost armour for the rest of the game out of respect for his sacrifice. Jin wouldn’t kill his uncle for honour, he cares more about him than his honour. Killing Lord Shimura seems out of character by the end.

He and Miyamoto Musashi have a lot in common when it comes to going against samurai tradition; That's definitely someone he should come across and learn from in the sequal, The video game was awesome through-and-through one of the best I've seen and played thus far, (next to red dead redemption 2) keep up the good work sucker punch; As far as the character of jin sakai goes I do not consider him a hypocrite or a tratior to honor at all, He continued to show himself to be the most honorable, more so than his uncle due to the fact that he valued innocent lives more than the need to appease the rigid dogma of the bushido code for the sake of his uncle and the shogun, they were facing an enemy that was using their code against them to take over the land and the people and jin saw no other choice but to break away from that in order for his people and his country to survive the murderous onslaught of the mongols, Thus it forced him down a path that he was Initially resistant to but ultimately embraced for the good of everyone Which in turn has made him a beloved living legend among his people as well as tsushima's very own japanese zorro, He may have sacrificed and lost everything because of the harsh choices he was forced to make, but he also gained a whole lot more from his willingness to sacrifice and lose everything for the greater good of all and he for a video game character has my utmost respect for that. He uncle however is the villain of his own story because he was willing to sacrifice an innocent woman like jin's friend yuna to the shogun and blame the poisoning of the mongols on her; something a man of honor should never do, so I personally don't care about lord shimura's pain, he deserves it and what better way for him to suffer more than to be spared and live with the humiliation of having his own nephew and "son" go on to become a better person and greater legend than him, the shogun and the entire class of the samurai. LONG LIVE THE GHOST!!! 🔥💯😉😁👍

Technically both endings fit which is why the option is there. It is also there for the player to choose which is to make show the evolution of the player during the game (though if u fight only honorably with no stealth tactics, u still get the exact same dialogue from npc) in my opinion, killing the uncle is the correct choice. Just because jin is the ghost, doesn't mean he isn't honorable. He loves his uncle and probably feels betrayed by him since it boiled down to a duel but accepts the fact that his uncle is blind to the reality that times are changing, not every enemy is the same, and not every enemy is going to fight honorably and would cost major loss of lives. The choice to end it for his uncle is honorable but yet also accepting fully Jin's role as the ghost. If a sequel comes then im sure any dialog about his uncles death will be bland. If someone asks what happened to him, Jin would probably just say "he died" or something. Both choices are accurate choices. I really don't think it really matters.

@@afibuffygirl yup .. this is why I love the endings. Most games with multiple endings have a clear cut good or bad endings. But both of GoT endings have a good and bad perspective to them. I personally went with killing Lord Shimura. To me sparing him feels like dishonoring him. While Jin doesn't care about honor, his uncle clearly does. From Shimura's perspective, sparing him would be worse than death. But as you said, the other ending is just as legitimate.

afibuffygirl The dialogue Jin says when he doesn’t kill his uncle resonated with me more and fits better thematically personally, like his uncle literally raised him from childhood, why would he? “I have no honour. But I will not kill my family” it’s also superb on a critical analysis, since he is affirming that he has no honour whilst in subtext making the most honourable/noble decision. And yeah, it disrespects his uncle but it also disrespects the whole era and archaic system of beliefs he’s a slave to, so it felt true to the character.

If you spare Lord Shimura, he would be mocked for his defeat at the hands of the Ghost and dishonored him of a good death. His clan would be looked down upon by other clans and might get replaced because of it. Leaving him alive he would be tasked to hunt Jin almost like Zuko in Avatar to reclaim his honor albeit without being banished. It's not about Jin's honor at the end it's about his uncle's. Imagine being the son of a jito who failed. Lord Shimura wouldn't have to care since his clan would end and no family to bear the shame.

And he declared himself an eternal enemy of Jin. He would have come to hound him forever. I say the Spare ending is the most thematically correct. I always found it a bit odd that Jin would put on the Ghost mask out of nowhere. And then it hit me. This entire game has been Jin's change from samurai into something more. By sparing his Uncle, he was forsaking the last vestiges of his samurai honor. That's why he put on the mask in this ending. His transformation is complete. He is the Ghost. And as Lord Shimura stares in awe (and horror) at what his nephew has become, Jin leaves his life forever...

  • @CheddarMannn
    @CheddarMannn Жыл бұрын

Both endings are right, depending on how you look at it. Kill ending makes Jin do one last thing for his uncle. For a brief moment, he gives in to the pointless sense of honor, for Shimura's sake. Sparing Shimura is more in line with Jin's character. He doesn't give in, and rejects his uncle's wish, to prove a point, that he's not going to kill him, for the sense of honor he blames hundreads of deaths for. Both work for Jin, as Shimura doesn't blame Jin for killing him. He wishes to die with honor, as it's the only way of life he imagined for himself, but it doesn't mean Jin needs to agree with it.

Sparing is the bad ending. Your Uncle would either commit Seppuku to redeem himself of the shame of defeat, or the Shogun would replace him for failing an order and have him commit Seppuku for failing. If Jin had the relationship he had with his uncle he would know that the loving response is to end his suffering and have him die an honorable death. Besides, this not being the modern age but the 1200's, your uncle after that battle would suffer gangrene, and all kinds of stuff there was no cure for even if he was allowed somehow to live. I think even the peasants would look at Jin in a negative light for sparing his uncle as someone who lacks familial piety to someone who raised him for insulting him in such a manner.

I think the ending where you kill Shimura is the correct one, mainly because he would have to commit seppuku after failing to kill Jin. So Jin not only honors Shimuras request but spares him from a far worse death by killing him himself. For the sequel, I think a sequel where Jin creates his own Shinobi school (basically spies/assassins, the thing Jin ultimately became) and fights against the opression of the shogunate would be really cool.

Man my only gripe with the game is that it made you poison the Mongols which ultimately led to the unfortunate ending (either one you choose) when I really didn't want to poison the Mongols. I disagreed with our characters choice and actually agreed with Shimura, but I get why for story reasons we couldn't just proceed to siege the castle otherwise the ending would be completely different. I was keeping the sneaky ghost stuff to a minimum, and especially the poison, it DID seem super dishonorable to me so I never used it. It made the forced decision to poison the Mongols seem really out of character for me and it irritated me that i couldn't just go in and kill all the Mongols myself if Jin wanted to spare the men. Most there were trained soldiers and the ones that weren't were just as ready to lay down their life to defend their home and I'm glad that you can over hear shimiras men condemning jins actions after as shameful, because it honestly was. I had up to that point been fighting every single Mongol I came across as a samurai (occasionally using the explosive arrows tho lol) so when I didn't just have the option to take on the castle head-on like I had been the ENTIRE game it kinda irked me. Oh, NOW all of a sudden my guy can't just face down the entire fort and single handedly kill everyone inside? It just seemed so forced lol, and if you get caught while sneaking it's an instant fail, meaning you can't just fight them you HAVE to poison them. They tried to use the justification that it was to save the men (who were honored to be there, defending their home) who aren't even helpless civilians. I fully blame Jin for the death of our uncle and his own banishment, and any subsequent harm that comes from killing such a good leader to fend off the Mongols. It's still a good story and ending, and shimura WAS a slave to his honor if he was willing to kill his own family (family first) I didn't like that the game genuinely seemed to think Shimura was wrong and that we should side with Jin, when I think Jin was in the wrong. Though shimura should have at least tried to stand up for us. It's a war, soldiers die. It what they are trained for, and he dishonored himself and his fellow men, personally.

I saw Jin as a realist. He understood that the world was changing and either you roll with it or get rolled over. Living by a code is not a bad thing, up to a point. It can bring much needed discipline, but you have to remember, the world doesn't care about your code. If Jin had let his uncle live, the people of Tsushima, probably, would have suffered a whole lot more. If Jin let his uncle live, he would have died anyway. According to the code, his uncle would have to commit seppaku, because he failed the shogun.

I think if Jin doesn't kill his uncle, the Shogun will punish Lord Shimura for failing to bring the head of his nephew. The Shogun may brand Lord Shimura a traitor or even disband Clan Shimura. So to protect Clan Shimura and their retainers, Lord Shimura must die. Jin, growing up in the upper class, is likely aware about the politics and his Uncle's position. Who will take over Lord Shimura's position? Maybe a distant cousin or kinsmen of Lord Shimura. Or even Lord Oga, who was overheard discussing Lord Shimura's follies and Jin during

There's no right or wrong choice... but like hell I was gonna off uncle after everything we had to go through. I think because I played Iki Island before I got out of Toyotama, Jin ended up striking me as a more rebellious character by the end of the DLC which I won't spoil. All I could think in the final choice was "no, I ain't like you" kinda got god of war vibes "the cycle ends here, we must be better than this"

I think the kill option is the best for Uncle, he wants to die a warrior’s death, and even if I spare him, the Shogun might find out and execute him or something like that anyways. Edit: I don’t want to kill him, but there might be consequences if I don’t, for Uncle.

Tsushima was invaded twice. So the second game could be about that. The fleet was taken out by a typhoon the japanese coined "the kamikaze " or divine wind. The sequel could be about Jin fighting back the second invasion and the ppl labeling him "the divine wind". In a way tha6s what the first is. Like a "true" telling 9f the story and the shogun cover it up to say a storm tool out the mongols so the ppl would t lose faith in the samurai.

See I didn't have the heart to kill Lord Shimura, he is all Jin has. and I think in the least, as long as Shimura is hunting "The Ghost" down, Jin will still get to see him and even maybe turn Shimura away from the broken Code of the Samurai. Of course all these plot points might just get dropped anyway if they change who we play as and all that in Ghost of Tsushima 2, which it wont even be called that if thats the case... but I seriously don't think Jin's story is finished, it all in all was left open ended so if they do it right, the next game will be just as spectacular and amazing as the first. Especially getting to see the cast from the first game return. In light of those words... RIP Taka and Ryuzo

The ending isnt confusing at all, but it is a good cause for discussion. Its a pretty big choice based on the events. I chose to spare him, although i dont truly believe that is the right choice. I chose to spare him based on what i think jin would have done after beating shimura as he doesnt kill him straight away, since his family and legacy (which is now ripped from him) mean so much to him. What has jin gotten in return for taking on the mongols mostly by himself? Nothing. He got an army he didnt want, he lost everything. His closest friends, his horse, his name and place as a samurai. Hes done whats right because it is right. Hes been selfless. Yes. He made new friends... but the only one he can probably talk to regardless of your choice at the end is yuna, because she is the only one capable of going any where without being followed. Maybe ishikawa too, but i dont think hed want to bother seeking out jin. Jin would have to find him. ONE selfish decision, sparing the last person left in his family, is TOTALLY justified. Plus, jin does have control over his emotions when he is ACTUALLY fighting. But outside of combat, jin's emotions get to him. He puts them aside too much, because hes always fighting and it clearly hurts him. He deserves an uncle. However, i started a new play through and i will be killing shimura this time around. I usually dont go back to the "bad" ending, but it isnt bad here. Its actually what would realistically happen.

If it’s the canon ending, then it’s not accurate to the time period. Feudal Japan was not forgiving of defeat. The Shogunate would’ve had Shimura commit seppeku for failing. Jin is going to be chased regardless, so why not let Shimura keep his honor? He’s dead either way.

For me, the right ending would be Jin accepting his execution. He knew he was abandoning his honour and his way to save his people. Once he had accomplished his task, there is nothing left to live for. He should know it is time and accept his death, restoring his honour as a samurai and becoming a true ghost. The ending to not commit seppuku or lose the duel on purpose felt like a cop out to me.
