    Hey Daniel! I remember watching your video of you installing your unit. I'm happy to hear that yours is still working well, that seems to be the common concensus among people with them. If I see any issues with the batteries, I think I'll swap over to a marine deep cycle battery and box. Take care!

    Andrew, like Daddy always said a lock is only to keep an honest man honest. also I have the mighty mule and had to replace the batteries every 2 years. I went with a 100 amp hour lifePO4 in a battery box, (had to get a liFEPO4 charger) added a 20 watt panel to the 20 watt that came with it and have not had any issues with the gate not opening because of power. we just had a real cold snap of below freezing temps. one night -3 in TN and the gate still opened and closed as needed. if the mighty mule goes out will be replacing with ghost. thank you for taking time to do these videos for us.

    Couple suggestions. Make you a backer board for the control boxes. Makes them sturdier, harder to tamper with, protects from UV. Get you a DC to DC buck converter to hardwire the keypad to the 12v batteries. Consider adding a switch to the vehicle sensor so you can turn it off while mowing or doing other work in the area, leaving on vacation, in case it shorts out etc. As far as people breaking in, that pin holding the opener to the post makes it a 5 second job to break in. I have tools in every vehicle so I personally would replace it with a bolt and nut. I do see why most people wouldn't though and I totally agree with leaving it with the pin. Ambulances for instance.

  • @TKCL

    @TKCL

    7 ай бұрын

    Good points. I'm not going to try to secure this anymore, especially the pins in case of operator failure. Any half motivated theif nowadays has a crowbar, cut off grinder or bolt cutters for easy entry. These types of gates and "security" give a false sense of security. They are there to keep the random kid or passerby from wandering in, delivery trucks out, or in our case uninvited guests.

    Ghost controls keypad and remotes have a "party mode" feature that allows you to keep gate in open position. Works great when mowing around gate sensor. I wire tied the stock pins making it very time consuming and tools required to remove the pin. Also installed per county laws, a fire department access keyed switch from Knox. Not cheap but makes it legal and if theirs a fire the fire dept will not rip the gate down...

  • @TKCL

    @TKCL

    4 ай бұрын

    @@ridemfast7625 I use party mode all the time. Knox boxes are not required everywhere. I went by the fire station and talked with emergency dispatch. All they wanted was a special code they put in their system for any emergency response. I made one for them only and no one else.

    I installed a similar set up on the road going to my shop One thing you may have overlooked is fire department access. Your local fire department has a certain type of switch that only they have the key for Varies by department that serves your area They are quite expensive They also make a little red box that just has a little micro switch inside. And upon opening the box it triggers the gate to open and stay open. On mine anyway You can put any padlock on it of your own. And since it's clearly marked fire. The fire department knows to cut the lock and as soon as the door drops open the gate opens. Seems mine was like $30 Check with your insurance. Mine said without this installed they would not cover loss from delays of the fire department getting to the fire Nice install 👌

    Nice Job Andrew, we have a lot of high winds at our place ,we have an 18ft 2” tube gate, but in high winds the gate operator is not able to close it on its own. You say y’all have high winds too, so I am betting you are going to have this issue as well. Basically we have to get out with the remote and assist the gate while it is opening or closing, depending on whether it’s fighting north or south wind.

    Very nice install Andrew, it's going to look really sharp after you get everything painted black! I have the exact same set up on my gates and haven't had any problems at all yet, even in the sub, sub zero temps, hopefully that didn't jinx me? I would like to suggest putting a small piece of rubber under the lock to prevent the gate from slapping the post so much! Take care bud!

    It is best to inform your local ups, fedex, usps, dhl or any other carrier of the change in location for your packages. I understand that there is a sign posted, but delivery drivers sometimes are just oblivious. they will make a note for your address and make it easier for deliveries.

    Make sure you put an EMP shield on this controller, ours got hit by lightning and it knocked out both gates on our paddock. $1400 per board. The few hundred dollar would have saved them or they would have covered the cost. Pretty good deal.

    Instead of replacing the screws on the sign of the gate with more screws, perhaps some rivets would be a better solution. Could even use riv nuts so you could remove the sign for maintenance and painting. Just a thought.

    That might have been an easy install for you but most home owners would have serious difficulties. It looks good but I would like to see what problems come up in the next year or 2 as an auto gate opener that doesn't work is much worse than a manual one lol. That lock for instance looks essential but if it ever doesn't open you could burn out the opener quickly unless there is a safety. Good to have that easy remove pin when things go wrong. Very nice camera work and instructions btw thanks.

  • @TKCL

    The lock must open before the actuator engages. There's also a key for the lock and as you said you can pull the pin on the opener.

    Doing some research on how to set up an automatic gate on my property. Need to have access for utility company to access their small site above the house if I'm not home (they have a right of way) to their property via my private road. Had so many questions - lock? keypad? exit sensor? This setup has all the accessories I would need and now I just need to find someone to make a nice decorative gate instead of using a pipe gate from tractor supply. Thanks for this vid! Subbed!
