the participants appear to have been stricken with Achille Mbembe's verbosity and academes, rendering their thoughts incomprehensible.

Thanks a lot guys. I am a second year and I just came upon the text. I should say it is very difficult to read. However I see in a way he draws a lot from Mamdani's Citizens and the subject, the historical genealogy of the formation of the African states and the continuation of the same system of government (colonial structures) into the post-colonial states. If I may ask I could not understand the three types of violence...and the idea of colonialism as a space. Thanks

I've been looking everywhere for an explanation of this idea of the "three types of violence". If you succeeded in finding something helpful please let me know. I would be very grateful.

Really, Africa is still under colonialism. The French, the British, and other colonialists have never left the shores of Africa. The French Afric, and the British Commonwealth are symbols of new colonialism.

Thanks for this comment. I don’t know these political theorists but they completely ignored the entire premise of Mbembe’s book. They don’t bother to mention neocolonialism and don’t seem to be aware of the influence organizations like the imf and world bank have as western dominated world banking systems, which have a clear self interest. To say the least, this commentary on the book was incredibly underwhelming and should act as a testament to the inadequacy and outdatedness of the political theory used by the commenters.
