Great job Caleb! To be honest I don’t think you can go wrong with either camera. They each have their strengths n weaknesses it just comes down to what specs are most important to you and best help with whatever your shooting. Great stuff sir!

totally agree! yeah these videos definitely aren’t to say get one camera over the other but it’s more just some fun shooting with them

Really great video! I've been looking for a camera that I can use mostly for video. I do love the options for 4K on the GH5, but the auto focus and dim light capabilities for the Sony a7 iii are better. I'm really unsure of which would be better for me

yeah low light will be much better with sony. auto focus too. and stills.

I’m seriously considering buying that Sony when it comes out. But at the same time I could buy 2 GH5 for the same price

awesome! i’m a worship pastor at my church so this is really exciting! video and music! a lot will depend on what you’re using the camera for but the Lumix 12-35mm f2.8 is a great lens as well as the Lumix 12-60mm.

Hey man..awesome video. I am a fan. I got soem questions. I am a beginner in videography. I own an iPhone and I shoot every video on that. I want to buy one camera now. BUt little confused which one to buy. I do mostly cinmatic b-roll kinda stuff..most of em is slowmo. Please suggest. And I can not afford Sony As7III.. :)

seriously the gh5 is great for that stuff. otherwise the other camera in this vid, the sony a73 is really good. or the sony a6600 is really good.

@@CalebHoover Thanks man..Actually in India Panasonic has not a great footprint. Sony is reigning here. I guess I will go for a6600. Just another question " How's the quality of 1080p from a6600?" I do a lot of slowmo cinematic. That's why asking. Please reply.

@@MayurMahapatraFilms It's not as sharp as the 4K for sure, as it's not downsampled. Line-skipped if I'm not wrong. But still pretty solid. Sony IBIS is not great for videos, so I would skip the a6600 and just go for the a6400. The price difference is more than enough to buy a gimbal and spare batteries. You will need at least 6-10 batteries for a full day of shooting. Buy the Sigma f/1.4 trio primes and you're good to go for all kinds of B-roll with nice bokeh. GH5 on the other hand has good IBIS so you can skip on the gimbal and still get solid stable shots while travelling light. And the dual SD card is really important if you ever want to do client work. But if autofocus is a must, then Sony is the only brand I would use for now.

i am amazed how i could see these two cameras in one project.. both great and i own both. i will do some colour grading if i could match them

Seems like the GH5 has way more detail in the image than the a7iii. Is it because of higher bitrate on the GH5 or am I mistaken about the GH5's image details ?

strictly for music video, which of these two would you get? already have a gimbal..

Both great camera's both with positives and negatives. However, the IBIS in the GH5 really was a noticeable point of difference in these shots for sure. I absolutely love the IBIS in my GH5 :)

yeah i haven't found a better ibis than the gh5. unless you want to count digital ibis on the gopro 😂

13:12 you can see crazy colour disturbances on his arm with the shadows and the highlights (grey and skintone), i had the same problem a lot of times shooting internal without a recorder. I dont even know how i can fix that, maybe you have an idea how?

i did a real quick edit on this but a lot has to v-log and not having enough light. but yeah the banding and color glitches can be really bad especially in v-log. i think the main thing is making sure it’s exposed right. which i was a bit off in this

I still like the gh5 because its an "on a budget allaround beast" and i also like that you pushing this camera due to the fact that it is a polarising theme :) love to see more from you, thumbs up :D

The difference on KZread will be really hard to see because it’s all about the person behind the camera. I think that it’s very easy these days to fall on the let’s get the latest and greatest but I think what really matters is content,creativity and focus on what you put in front of the camera. Tools are great but don’t think that you need better in order to create! That being said let’s wait for a gh6!😅

i would agree with this! the GH5 is just a few features away from being a cinema type camera. but that means there will be a learning curve. the GoPro you'd be able to turn on and shoot. maybe something like the sony zv-1 might be good?

What frame rate do you normally shoot handheld in?

with handheld, I like being at some higher frame rates like 60 or 120fps. it helps eliminate those jitters that can creep in. at 24fps, i'd want to be on a gimbal if it requires movement unless the scene calls for some shaky footage.

It does! Take for example 16mm sigma f1.4 it works really well compared to some. Obviously then there are those like adapted sigma (18-35mm ) which is NO way. Wait a minute I ain't Caleb... 😂

@@CalebHoover something special about that 16 sigma - its autofocuses slowly but steadily and seems to work well - typically I shoot fixed focus on the gh5 - but I had a shoot where i was on a gimbal and the director wanted to go from a semi macro shot of a sign, moving to talent at 10ft away who would come within 3ft of camera and then move away to 15 ft out from the camera - I gave the 16 a go and it totally nailed the shot- its the only non-native that is better than the native lenses at focus. Same with some slow pushes in to faces - reliable and I was totally surprised when I got it into the edit suite as I was expecting a disaster. With the 16 m43 version you also have access to focal transitions in camera - so its pretty killer!! Its my fave lense for m43 for sure. Panasonic need to talk to sigma about that lens and see what magic they did.

Micro Four Thirds is great for photography, especially if you are doing wildlife because you don't want to hike around with gigantic telephoto lenses. Even for portraiture, you can take absolutely fantastic portraits with the right lens. I have the cheap little Olympus 45mm f1.8, and that is an unbelievable portrait lens. The 45mm f1.2 is even better and can absolutely be shot wide open. Of course, you can adapt just about anything to Micro Four Thirds, especially with a speedbooster. So, don't feel like you have to have full frame or even APS-C for photography.

For documentary filming work would you recommend the gh5 or the a7iii? I’m thinking projects/films more in nature and communities

As soon as the light reduces, the Sony becomes the boss!

It seems here the Gh5 has more micro contrast, more skin detail than the Sony, this is surprising considering the Sony has bigger sensor and double the pixels (sp, Quality over Quantity). The AF on the panasonic is not an issue for many expert shooters as MF is desirable (You choose what you want to be in focus), but also the screen tap on the Gh5 is the best of any brand, even 3 years after its release.
