Gex: Enter the Gecko - Nitro Rad

Ойындар

Does Gex fair better in the third dimension? This game takes a much more Mario 64 approach. Let's see what it does well, and what it doesn't.

I still have a fond appreciation of this game to this day.

The band was involved with acid tests in the 60s, small shows at venues in San Francisco where LSD- spiked tap water was freely given to bandmates and the audience. Their audio engineer, Augustus Owsley Stanley III (known as Bear) also produced dozens of thousands of hits of really good acid for them and others over the years.

9:50 To be fair, Luke's reaction actually was to shout something to the effect of "No, that's not true!" and he was in no position to kill Vader. It's admittedly not entirely clear to what extent Luke believed Vader, though he did apparently doubt it enough that he asked Yoda just to be clear. Supposedly the line "search your feelings" was also meant to imply a suggestion that Luke use The Force to divine the truth of the matter, so that helps. Apparently, the scene with Yoda in RotJ was put in partly because a lot of people in the audience suspected Vader was lying, and Lucas himself realized that Luke probably wouldn't believe it.

Good review. You got yourself a subscriber. I like that it shows you clearly put a lot of effort into the review, especially describing the game very accurately and detailed. I do have two recommendations for you, though: Firstly, the show would benefit from more in-depth analyzation of the game, as I feel it is maybe a little too accounting and not enough using the plain information in relation to each information bit and in relation to the overall game. It's not that you don't do that at all, but I could just see more of it in the future as a plus, because you clearly have the skills to perform such feats. Secondly, I think the show would benefit from some structure. To me, the presentation of all the information you deliver seems too scattered. A good way to structure this is through segments. This might be a deliberate choice, of course, but I'm just describing how I would go about it.

Rewatching this after getting the news of a Gex trilogy remake makes me wonder if Nitro Rad is going to make a review of the remake. That would be awesome, revisiting a game in a new style with the modern style that his videos have now would be cool. After all, he reviewed the original oneshot and then the steam version, so, the chances of this happening are high.

Gex 2 also got a Japanese release by Bandai under the name "Spin Tail." I did a full playthrough of it on my Twitch channel to see all of the differences. The Japanese voice lines are much fewer and thus much more repetitive. He's voiced by Senda Mitsuo in this version. They changed Gex's name to "Reno." Any of the more "adult" jokes are removed. The game features graphics and signs in English throughout, only some of which are removed in the JP version, mostly in the earlier levels, for some reason. The removed graphics aren't replaced with Japanese text - they're just... missing (or in the case of the Rezopolis levels, replaced with creepy eyes). Also, if you beat the game 100% clear, there is a special FMV at the end of the game. They did NOT dub this into Japanese for the JP version; it's still in English with Dana Gould's voice, which is very strange considering that the opening sequence and the three hidden FMVs are dubbed into Japanese. Also, the end credits are entirely in English with no mention whatsoever of the Japanese staff who worked on the localization. Gex 3 never got a Japanese release. The first one did get released in Japan, but I haven't had a chance to play it. Just something interesting you might want to know. :)

Some later printings of Gex: Enter the Gecko DO indeed have analog support, but only in the sense of mapping the eight directions of the d-pad to the stick. Crash Bandicoot 2 had a similar issue where later printings of the game added analog but early printings didn't, although in Crash 2's case this analog support was full 360-degree, speed-variant analog in all its glory. Irritatingly, the PSN versions of both Crash 2 and Gex 2 use the older versions of the game that lacked analog support. - Lewis

Gex is voiced by Leslie Phillips in the PAL version and he really added more of a sauve, "british secret service" feel of the game. Whoever's voicing him in his version is damn annoying xD

2:43 There is one use. In one of the Prehistoric Level, while you have to jump from lava-raft to lava-raft you can duck under an obstacle. Other then that, i havn't found any use of it though, so you are technically right

Don't know if anyone has mentioned, and the video is five uears old, but the fire and ice flies allow you to burn or freeze enemies if you hold down the tail attack button and run around the enemies to make a circle.

Yeah, the Nintendo 64 cut one regular level which is Poltergex (a third regular Scream TV level), a couple of bonus levels like I Got The Reruns (Rezopolis) and Trouble in Uranus (Rocket Channel) and three secret levels like Scream TV’s Texas Chainsaw Manicure, Pre-History Channel’s Lava Dabba Doo and Rezopolis’ Mazed and Confused. I have several conspiracy theories for why each were removed was that Poltergeist and Texas Chainsaw Manicure were seen as too violent for Nintendo due to censorship policy even though they relaxed on it since Mortal Kombat 1 did better on Genesis than SNES, I Got the Reruns and Trouble in Uranus had presumed obscene wording since the moral busybodies would refer to each as “I got the runs” and “Trouble in your anus”, also the Trouble in Uranus stage had a disability sign with an alien’s head on it, that’s why Nintendo were hesitant to include those bonus stages. Nintendo thought Lava Dabba Doo and Mazed And Confused we’re simply too long for such secret stages to complete.

Man I remember renting this game for my PS1 like 3-4 times back when I was like 12. I probably should've just bought it, but it was easier to get my mom to just rent a game every now and then than buy a new one! I loved it so much though.

Good review man, glad to see gex finally being acknowledged. When I was a kid, my mind was blown when I played the gex 2 demo. The fact that he talked every 2 seconds was awesome to me. Now.. It's a little annoying. But then again I do dtandup and am a fan of Dana Gould. I'm sure this was a deep rooted contribution

NitroRad I don't mean any thing about it. I was a Godzilla fan as a kid and more so now. With the 2014 movie that came out I've been grabbing almost any thing with Godzilla in it lately. It was a great video and I just had a fanboy nit pick. Work with the format that works for you. Gex 2 on N64 was the only Gex game I played. I had a few good moments but if I picked it up again it would only be for the one boss fight. Great video and I can't wait to see what Gex 3 was about.

It's always annoyed me when characters in video games say the same lines over and over, especially if they aren't related to the situation at hand. It really takes you out of the experience sometimes. One of the biggest offenders is probably the 3D Sonic series. "TIME FOR A CHANGE OF PACE!"

I was able to use analog on enter the gecko. Also the fire and ice do have special abilities, though it isn't something one would know. You basically have to hold the attack button and spin resulting in a tornado. Again, I figured that out by accident, so I can't blame you for not knowing. Another thing to note for the hfil of it is that Gex has a different voice actor in the UK version of enter the gecko.
