This is best thing since sliced bread. Also what finally made me go for the lifetime subscription. I am now 700 dollars poorer, but very very happy. Thanks Roon team! Well done!!

The roon is more than perfect audio player, it is an interesting magazine, a carefully engineered window to the world of music. The roon arc is just like the dark side of shiny mine roon application. In short: the roon arc unable neither to configure network, no diagnose it. Even if you was lacky enough to have an internet provider, that can to support a roon arc connection to roon server, you steel need to setup that connection manually. And still, there are internet providers, that roon arc just isn't working with. My previous provider stopped to support private clients, and I was forced to move to another internet company. With first prowider I spent a time to manually set up the port forwarding, now, with new provider I spent several days trying forwarding ports, DMZ, and disabling interfaces and disabling firewall with no result. At the same time NAS and private cloud, and sharing working perfect using just UPnP without manually tuned ports, routes and so on.

I got so excited that I'd finally be able to use my Roon home setup on my work computer, but nope, Android and iOS only. Is a desktop Roon Arc client in the works?

Setup a VPN server and connect to that on your client device, quite simple. Already worked on all devices before this got released.

@@mhp9843 Yeap. Got it working today after failing to get Roon Arc to work on Windows 11 via Windows for Android Subsystem. It would install, but immediately crash. I had an existing ZeroTier setup but couldn't get Roon on the work PC to output audio locally. It was just a simple matter of changing the zerotier network type to Public and now it works. Even better!

I already have all my music library in my iPhone. Is there any tool or way to discover it using Roon Arc? Because I am talking about 2,000 albums in different resolutions and formats and download them one by one from my core do not make me sense.

Dang! I wished this worked. I followed setup directions got the “Roon Arc Ready” but no music. “No audio zone selected” is my only joy. Must I setup my iPhone as its own zone? Follow up: I had to uninstall/reinstall Roon Arc and restart Roon to get it to see Roon Arc (iPhone) as an output zone. FYI and FWIW. But now it works great and seems like a small miracle.

When you say "your home network will need to be configured to allow this connection", do you mean port forwarding? And does the auto-config rely on UPnP? If so, how long until there is a secure way to access ARC via a proxy for those who don't know how to set up a VPN?

  • @VictorHugozc

If your router supports upnp, then it will be configured automatically, or else you will need to setup port forwarding.

@@VictorHugozc Don't forget to check the random port that Roon assigns that needs to be configured. I guess you can set your own too

@@VictorHugozc Curious in this day and age where nearly every security guide on the planet instructs users to immediately disable UPnP that you would release something that uses it. It is also disabled by default on most devices now. Assuming this does not rely on multicast it would be nice if you would at least mention VPN and it would be great if it was the recommended option since Roon skipped the proxy server option that would have made this practically brainless (and secure) for everyone. Is a proxy-based option in the works?

Ugh, I downloaded the new Roon remote before updating core. Only to learn my Mac mini core needs to be updated to a new computer. Then learned about legacy iOS software, which I downloaded. Only to find the legacy iOS version won’t work with the regular 1.8 core. Aaarghhhh.

This feature is a very long time coming, however, It is unacceptable to release Roon ARC without the option to disable or configure the security accessing the Roon Core. How are we to know that security was implemented well or even at all? Are we just suppose to take their word for it? In order to prevent public access to the Core you have to disable UPNP on your network, which could effect other network device communication. You would need to be tech savvy to ensure the public connection is secure.

If you are using a Mac as a core it won’t work because if the Mac Lock Screen or screensaver kicks in ARC won’t connect.

But then Roon doesn’t work for you, does it? I just won’t let my Mac Mini go to sleep. That’s how Roon and ARC just work. Well, just... Roon works fine but ARC works super slow and downloading albums takes forever. If I download the same album from my NAS via the program from my NAS to my iPhone 14 Pro Max, it will take a few seconds. Tidal via ARC is also super slow. Even with WiFi all. I find ARC unworkable to date due to this slowness and hope of improvement. I would rather see the entire ARC disappear and everything is simply implemented in Roon itself so that ARC becomes superfluous. Roon has a much finer layout and just works. I myself do not understand that a completely new program is needed to only make mobile use possible.
