    Nice to know this video. Let me say the ending thing about Rf2 modding. Rf franchise is based on IS engine, which uses text files to create the contents. On Rf1 theese files weren't packed in archive, exception made for the .dds libraries, and the name of theese archives was .mas. The anticheating worked by comparing text files with the ones saved on the server. In Rf2 everything is packed in a new type of .mas file, and if is not packed doesn't work in game mode. Obviously, in the file system of Rf2 you will find a program called something like mas2. Now, to edit a downloaded mod you have to unpack everything, and the re-pack, and anticheating works by reading the pack. So, unpacking requires time, sounds can't be changed in a Steam's workshop's mod, that gets updated every time the shared pack is updated, so that's why is quicker modding on Rf1. In Rf1, you take the directory of the car you like, you make your modification, try it, modify them again and you have your own customized content, now you have to unpack and repack the entire mod, and learn how to disconnect it from Steam workshop. I think that everybody learnt by modifying other mods, and buying Rfactor without modding, well, I only agree that with GT3 DLC is a nice GT3 only game

    I need info on VR settings, audio using a Buttkicker and FFB. The curbs are so brutal on my CSW V2. However it seems adjusting it in game doesn’t really help dial it in. I’ve heard I have to modify some game folders but could use a tutorial on that. My view in VR always seems to have my head tilted back but I can’t adjust it. Performance seems ok but I have a pretty beefy system and I feel like I can get more out of it. The audio has really bad reverb and echo. I’m sure it has something to do having to mirror my audio with the rift through steam VR as it seems the other title “RaceRoom” that forces me to use Steam VR has the same issues. All other titles that don’t require Steam VR sound great. Plus I had to return all DLC as it I struggled to even get it to install. Once I finally managed to after hours and deleting all game files and reinstalling multiple times...I couldn’t get any of the content to load. I’d get a gMotor error every time. I give up

    Hi, for troubleshooting VR, audio, Buttkicker and FFB you could try the rF2 forums or their Discord which was a dedicated support section. Not sure on your DLC issue, I've never had any problems at least. If your Steam Inventory functions correctly in general then rF2 DLC should function I guess, although it requires the game to be able to correctly install the files inside the application folders. Again please try the rF2 forums or their Discord. RaceDepartment.com forums can also be useful I find..

    It depends. 1. Normally if you select a profile as a basis for a setup, for example Thrustmaster T300 when you save it you can give it another name and the original will still be there. Unless of course you save over the original. 2. If you wish to start again completely go to steamapps\common Factor 2\UserData\Controller where all controller profiles are stored. And if you wish to restore all just delete the contents of that folder. (backup anything you wish to keep though) then from Steam select rFactor 2 from your Library, right-click and select Properties. The from LOCAL FILES Tab select "VERIFY INTEGRITY OF GAME FILES" which will then replace all default controller profiles included with the game.

    Hi Davy. A very interesting video - thanks for taking the time to make and upload it. I'm still confused thiough. I only ever play single player and thought you could set-up your own series of races using the 'SERIES' and 'RACE EVENTS' menus. Are you saying that you can't do this for some reason? I have lots of mods - and what I thought were series races - but when I go to 'INCLUDE RACE EVENTS' there is only one option for me (for a track in Scotland or somewhere), and when I click that option, it sticks with the car and the track that I've chosen. I just want to race in pre-set series, like you would in FORZA, for example, racing in the same car at different tracks, or in different cars at different tracks over a set number of races. Is this no longer possible?

  • @DavyJonesSimRacing

    @DavyJonesSimRacing

    5 жыл бұрын

    Hi, yes I think the SERIES section and in there INCLUDE RACE EVENTS is no longer active. When it was there it was comprised of native rF2 cars and tracks created by ISI, before Studio 397 took over. If you try to select INCLUDE RACE EVENTS on its own the ACCEPT option below is grayed out. It must have been part of the old DirectX 9 version of the game, now running DirectX 11. And I suspect the user interface overhaul which they are working on may potentially replace and update those features once it becomes available. I think the only option now is to create race events manually for a single track and car combo.

    Good guide, very useful because the game has no real manual and some settings are unclear. Do you use use an uncapped framerate on purpose by the way? It's going crazy in the menu and seems to be inconsistent in the game as well. I use my gpu drivers to cap the framerate to 90 fps (144hz freesync monitor) and find that much nicer, also keeps my gpu quiet.

  • @DavyJonesSimRacing

    @DavyJonesSimRacing

    6 жыл бұрын

    Thank you, glad you liked it! Sorry I should have used a hot key to disable the NVIDIA GeForce Exp. frame rate counter when I wasn't really using it. No I don't use any frame rate cap as I find that any sort of VSync or "auto detail FPS" (the rFactor 2 option I referred to in the guide) might cause performance issues as the PC tries to match a set frame rate or limit

  • @DavyJonesSimRacing

    @DavyJonesSimRacing

    6 жыл бұрын

    Also leaving it uncapped allows me to see how far it can go. Fair point on applying a limit though. As I noted in the guide I'm still testing things on a regular basis. You be right though on setting a limit to make it easier on a GPU, must try that thanks!

  • @ErikGPL

    @ErikGPL

    6 жыл бұрын

    You're right about that, I also don't use a framecap at first. So I can see how many framerate is doing, according to that I adjust the settings so I don't drop below my prefered framerate. But after that I do cap it so it stays consistent and never drops below that point.

  • @DavyJonesSimRacing

    @DavyJonesSimRacing

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hi and firstly thanks for your kind words :) A GTX 770 has 2GB of video memory if I recall correctly but no matter. I would assume that you shouldn't be looking for that high a frame rate. If you have a 60Hz monitor for example then target that since anything higher your monitor cannot display anyway, I mean in reference to 180 FPS. There can be many factors affecting performance, the car and track combination, the number of AI and visible AI. I too get lagging sometime for no apparent reason. I would start with taking things like AA & FXAA off or down to the minimum to establish a base line. Disable the replay functionality if you're not using it, I read somewhere that turning it off may help (I mentioned that in the video) and set the quality of opponents to low as well. There is a hyper threading option in the video settings panel in the rF2 launcher which you can also try enabling as well. To be honest there is no 'fix all' solution, you'll just have to play with things :)

    Hi, yes I expected this guide to become out of date soon after I published it but the new UI is only now becoming the default option before the end of 2020. I am now using the new UI and I understand that all will have to use it and if you don't want to use it then you would need to turn off game updates which isn't advisable of course. I have my issues with the new UI - more so just the concepts in use as I think there are more steps needed to accomplish things than are necessary but whats in the beta is what they have designed and we'll just have to get used to it I guess...

I'll try and put together a quick wheel setup guide in the coming days, in the meantime you should be good to go with the predefined T500 or T300 profiles included when you install the game. And make sure that when customising your controls that the wheel profile you have chosen is the one that is currently loaded.

    There is and "Auto Pit" option in rFactor 2 that you can map to a control. If it's on when you start a session the car might not move and you won't be able to access any controls such as shifting gears. Auto Pit is meant for pitting during a race, entering the pit lane, carrying out a pit stop and then leaving. Its a bit buggy though and doesn't seem to work when starting a session to try making sure that is turned off.

    I have tried in th e DISCORD channel. I managed to get some help. Got the wheel working but still a bit erratic. I think has to do with the rotation degrees in MMOS. I got round Silverstone for 2 laps before VR went on me again but that was an improvement. I can really run in 2D due to my setup, but will continue trying to sort it out. Thanks

    In the rF2 Discord there is a dedicated support thread for such questions, I guess you know but just to point that out. Also RaceDepartment forums can also be useful and Studio397's own forums. There are so many places nowadays it's hard to know where to go first ;)

    I guess your best best in terms of the wheel is to find someone on rF2 who has the same OSW wheel for comparison, kind of obvious I know, just thinking out loud in a way... I guess there are so many DD wheel setup types the software behind them can differ quite a bit, or at least thats my impression...

    Maybe try forcing 32-bit to run to see if that works. And using game properties in Steam use the verify game files option. Racedepartment.com rF2 forum section and the studio 397 forums are also a useful resource ;)

    I have a love hate relationship with Rfactor 2. Some days it drives a treat, the cars perform excellent, the brakes don't lock up and the car steers beautifully. But then a few days later the same car and same track with no settings changed and the car handles awful? Anyone else have this issue and know why? I've tried turning of pc and starting again but same?

    I've been reading up on rFactor 2 but not sure yet if I will get it. If I do I will definitely have to come back here and watch this tutorial again. You put a ton of effort into explaining how to set these sims up and for someone like me who doesn't have clue what I'm doing has been a tremendous help especially with Asseto Corsa. you deserve many more views than your getting and if anyone ever asks me a question about a certain sim they will be directed to you, thank you for your time. One question, if I change settings in one game to my wheel or keyboard in say Assetto Corsa and then start playing a different sim such as this one will one game control setting affect another set of gaming controls? The reason I ask is I play a lot of American Truck Simulator and after making button control changes in Project Cars 2 I noticed button or keyboard settings were also changed in ATS and I had to reset them. I hope that made sense, thanks Davy.

    Hi, no each game will use a control device separately. Look at it this way. 1 there is the operating system, 2 the game controller (mouse & keyboard, gamepad, wheel) connects to the operating system, 3 the operating system makes the controller available for each game to use, 4 each game will maintain it's own control profiles in its own installation folder and so cannot affect the use of the same controller with another software title. And when you quit one title to start another only the currently running title can use the controller.

    Not sure. Try looking at the game properties in Steam. Right-click on the game I'm your Steam Library and select Properties and look for the verify files option. Also look for your rFactor 2 user profile data, I don't recall where its stored, either inside the game installation, in User/AppData or in My Documents. And once you have found it try backing it up and deleting so the game can start and create a new profile.

    Try and clear the user data folder by backing it up and then see if the game will load. Also consider the fact that if you have mods installed (such as from the Steam Workshop) or DLC then it may take time to install or update them.

    Well that depends on what you mean exactly. If you check Studio 397's section of the Steam Workshop you can find content created by them steamcommunity.com/id/studio-397/myworkshopfiles/?appid=365960 I am not sure if that includes all tracks in the game and also there were tracks created before Studio 397 took over development of rFactor 2. A fresh install of rFactor 2 without adding any content from the Steam Workshop will include only official tracks and then if you add from the Workshop created by Studio 397 those are also the official tracks. And also DLC tracks as well of course like Sebring.

    Not sure I understand the problem. Set your wheel control settings in Windows to their defaults and if there is an "allow application to modify wheel settings" type of option make sure that is enabled. Look for a G27 preset in the game and in the control settings there is an option to match the rotation of the car your are driving or you can set it manually and if you do so make sure you set the same value in the wheel settings in Windows. 540 degrees is a good value to start with.

    Ok - post a question on the Studio 397 Forum or join the rFactor 2 Discord. Also check where you have the game installed, is it on the same drive as Windows or is it on a separate drive? Running the 64-bit version of the game should be standard now and I am not sure where the standard installation directory is. Inside Steam Games folder for sure but if that is in the x86 Programs directory and rFactor 2 is 64-bit that might cause an issue. I think not but best to try out every option you can in order to figure out where the issue might be - good luck!!

    Racing games really should begin with a great video like this, instead of a stupid scripted game video or an entrance race. After those, you're usually screwed, left to your own devices. After a video like this, you feel you're really up to begin learning the game. Seeing this video for the first time, no wonder I've earlier only played rFactor 2 before for 15 minutes after deciding it was too complicated to get anything done. I know what I'll be doing tomorrow, thanks to this video. Time to hit rFactor with plenty more knowledge than last time.
