    If you are following this video and are about to take a hammer to your Cameo because it isn't cutting your design, it is because this video completely omits the crucial step of using the Trace tool to create a cut line around your image (at least in Studio 4.3 and lower). The Trace tool is the one that looks like a piece of toast (apparently) and, in most cases, you want select your trace area as the image and then the Trace Outer Edge option. Also to the people getting nothing when they print - use a JPG or PNG or other bitmap format, you can't just open a DXF and print it. I believe you may be able to if you fill them, but why waste all that ink/toner if you are cutting shapes.

I did it and when it was reading registration marks, the bottom of the mat got stuck on the lip of the drawer and caused my BRAND NEW machine to make grinding noises. My Cameo 5 on macOS with latest studio and firmware is set to "Letter" paper on page, but it can't find the registration marks as it goes down too far and looks for them where they would be for A4. I am using the brushed metal sticker preset, which is your own letter sized paper. So it seems this combination is junk as it just does not work.

    I most often print on cardstock for print & cut designs, because I find it easier to cut without tearing compared to copy paper. If you are looking for print & cut designs in your library, you can use the filter to only look for those designated as print & cut -- see this video at about 3:15 kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZmGjqMp_mMzShc4.html Any design with color can be used for print & cut as long as you pay attention to the cut lines. i am trying to print and cut an svg file but i dont know how to flatten it first. i know with cricut, you can turn an SVG into a cut file (png) but simply selecting the svg and hitting flatten, which tells the cricut that its now a print and cut file. I cant figure out how to do that with silhouette. I've had my machine a year now and still cant get it right. I am not a newbie to any of these machines but this is the one thing that i find really stupid about silhouette. I love this machine in all over aspects, but I think cricut wins with print then cut.

  • @KellyWayment

    @KellyWayment

    2 жыл бұрын

    Turning on the registration marks is the step in Silhouette Studio that tells the machine it is a print & cut file. No flattening necessary. If an SVG already has cut lines (you can see them as bold red lines in the Send Panel), it is ready to print & cut -- assuming you turn on registration marks. If a file does not have cut lines and they cannot be turned on by choosing "Cut" in the Send Panel, then you need to Trace the image to assign cut lines. Here's a video on Tracing. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oW1kmbCKYrXUc8Y.html

    I'm not familiar with that material. If it's like cardstock, choose a cardstock material setting and test cut to see if it will work. If it's a sticker paper, try the white sticker paper material setting and test cut. Any new material just needs some trial and error, but there is often a comparable default material to get you close before adjusting blade depth and force in small increments.

    You can use a "Print to PDF" option if that is among your printer choices when printing. Also save that document in Silhouette Studio to cut later, once you have the printout loaded. A PDF showing the registration marks can be used at print shops or from someone else's printer. However, it's very important that it prints exactly at 100% (no borderless printing or fit to page, etc.) so the registration marks and cut lines match the Silhouette Studio document exactly.

And it doesn't scan the whole page of the paper, so it can not read the registration line bottom page of the paper (L line) While scanning it stops at the end of the mat size 8.5 x6 and goes back from the top. • @KellyWayment

    @KellyWayment

    3 жыл бұрын

    It's tricky with the smaller Curio mat, and there may be a bug that's interfering with proper page size and orientation. I've brought it to the attention of the software developers. Your lower registration mark *must* be within the cutting mat border or it will not read it. You may have to force the mark to where it needs to be by setting a custom page size (to print on Letter paper, try 8.5" W x 7.0 " H) and then use Advanced registration mark settings to set your lower inset to 1.00" or larger. If you have the larger Curio base and can use a full sheet of paper, you may have better success. Please reach out to www.silhouetteamerica.com/contact if you need to troubleshoot further.

    If some of your stickers are cutting with a larger white border, it could be a lighting issue or levelness issue. Make sure your paper is not glossy, the lighting in the room is even (you can try closing the lid when reading registration marks to see if that helps), and try propping up your mat in the front with something like an empty vinyl tube that will hold up the mat without impeding its movement.

    What type of images are you trying to print? It could be something as simple as you need to fill shapes and text with color before they print. If it's more than that, please reach out to Silhouette Support and they can help you. www.silhouetteamerica.com/contact

    As long as your registration marks are printed clearly and it is printed at 100% size, you should be able to use a laser printer or an inkjet printer.

    where do the registration marks come from?

  • @KellyWayment

    You turn on the registration marks in your software (see the video at 5:09) so they will print when printing the design on your home printer.

    This is just using a regular printer with regular ink? Not like sub ink

    That's correct. This is a regular Canon inkjet printer, and I've also used Epson and HP. Nearly all of Silhouette's printable media is made to use with a regular inkjet printer.

  • @KellyWayment

    It should work with most JPGs or PNGs, as long as you can Trace them. If the border of the design is very pale or white, that can be problematic with getting a good Trace. See this video on Tracing kzread.info/dash/bejne/oW1kmbCKYrXUc8Y.html

    I spent a few hours figuring this one out. My issue was not aligning the matte correctly. On the Portrait 3, the actual paper is suppose to center align with the two white wheels. This means that the matte was NOT suppose to align with the very left marking.

    @@vd853 Thank you! I have a portrait 3 and I have never been able to figure out the 3 loading lines, especially if I'm using the mat. I'll try your tip. I have only used the registration marks one other time. It worked, but the cut was off. Today it won't even register.

    @@vd853 The far left marking is for the Cameo 4. You're correct that on Portrait machines, the mat should be loaded so the roller wheels grip the mat evenly. We've got a specific video for Print & Cut with the Portrait 3 here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/hWaNo8GuocqXmZM.html

    I constantly have issues with print and cut! After calibration is ok my machine is not reacting on Distanc Adjustment. Just not cutting marks to check the distance. I have a Business Edition. I'm just pissed off. The other thing is Silhouette is claiming allowable error in Print&Cut is 1.16th of inch! THIS IS HUGE ERROR! This is just ridiculous. 1.6mm is just unacceptable...
