@Tim Smith… sounds like you got it: It’s all about discipline, which is required so you have the ability to clear yourself of the density you’ve consumed unconsciously…by doing so, you can actually feel your inherent connection with God. We are so undisciplined-we don’t even realize what we are consuming. If you were aware, you wouldn’t desire anyone outside of the one you married… you’ve just blindly allowed yourself to be trained that that’s “normal”…. And it is, for this world. But it won’t serve you.

So, practicing fasting will help me to become more Christ-like how? By practicing saying "no" to my desire to eat, which creates the "muscle" to enable me to more easily say "no" to my desire to have sex with someone other than my wife? Is that the idea? If so, what type of Christ-like qualities do the other practices develop? For instance, solitude?

While this is a good idea, it’s still making up your own thing. Jesus did have official rules, he established The Church and the apostles carried out His practices that are still practiced today in the Eastern Orthodox Church. Doing these practices shouldn’t be just whenever, however, there is a liturgical calendar to follow with specific guidelines for when to fast and how to fast. When to pray and how to pray. This is not legalistic but created to support you and guide you to become more like Christ, within the body of Christ . People want to go reinvent the wheel all the time, but it’s all there in the Orthodox Church. And it is so powerful, deep and beautiful. Also missing her is the Eucharist. Which is what creates communion between Christ and The Church, it’s essential to being a true follower of Christ. That is how you deepen your spiritual life and connection with God. The fullness of the Church cannot be found outside of it. Read the Church fathers and it will be clear. 2,000 years of Orthodoxy because God is the same yesterday today and tomorrow.

Mr Comer, your 'practices' are exactly what my Hindu guru use to teach us. Self. Self. Self. It appeals to our arrogant & conceited nature. [All you talk about is your self & your customers.] Will you ever talk about Jesus?
