This is very useful, analyzing each scenario and player cards in each pack. Not just telling people all are good , get the whole cycle.

Super happy FFG announced another repackaged set in Dream Chaser! Especially after watching your video and knowing that it looks to be a great cycle.

Funny enough, when I originally got into LoTR LCG, Lost Realm and Angmar cycle was the "current" cycle for the game, and as a result it was the most available one. So I play the core quests and then go straight into Angmar. Long story short, it took me half a year to beat Battle of Carn Dum. Luckily I am into hardcore game modes and difficult games so it wasn't frustrating, but playing a single quest for well over 60 times and losing all of them is quite a hit or miss 😄 working my way through Khazad Dum afterwards felt like a breeze. I agree with your suggestions.

Thanks for the work here. I have revised core set, which I enjoyed. Ordered Fellowship of the Ring saga - hope that's good. So I am pretty ignorant of all this history!

Great guide, I fully agree with you for most part. I found very weird that they released Agmar Awakened first, maybe to cater to more advanced players, I don´t know, but not the best option to draw new players to the game. Now they are releasing the Grey Havens, which is great, but very unique. It´s like they are keeping away for the traditional adventures

Yea that was weird, not entirely sure what the logic was. Grey havens is a great set, one of my favorites but definitely not traditional.

I wanted to like this game so bad, but I found what I was looking for in Arkham LCG.

Do you have any advice on how the starter packs would factor into your buying recommendations?

I have watched this video at least 4 times and I think it is a wonderful buyers guide for beginners. I have heard that they will reprint the Lord of the Rings Saga boxes, the Dream-chaser cycle (which includes The Grey Havens) and the Ered Mithrin cycle (which includes The Wilds of Rhovanion). With this in mind and the ability to purchase the starter decks, I am curious how your opinions have changed? Again, this is a great video. Thank you for all the great information.

Thank you so much! I'm glad you like the guide. The reprints do change the equation a little because the campaign cards released with the reprints change the difficulty. For example playing the core set quests in campaign mode is much easier than the default mode. Escape From Dol Guldur goes from practically impossible to just very difficult. Where the difficulty of each cycle will end up landing after the reprints is impossible to say. But at the least the reprints make it easier to find some of the hard to find player cards and quests!

Hey man, first let me just say, as someone who just got the Revised Core Set as a X-mas gift, I cannot thank you enough for creating such a detailed buying guide for new players such as myself. I honestly would have been completely lost (not to mention frustrated out of my mind) if I didn't find your video. I'm having incredible difficulty finding the Hobbit Expansions, any recommendations on where I could locate them? Also subb'd liked! Again thank you!

Very happy I could help! Thank you so much for the comment. It is frustrating trying to figure out where to start in a game with a 10 year history for sure. For the Hobbit expansions, they are notoriously hard to find especially the On The Doorstep one, I believe it goes for over $100 on ebay. Over Hill and Under Hill is easier. The Lord of the Rings saga expansions have been re-released so I would guess it's a safe bet that the Hobbit ones will be too.

I own both from the original release, they are not that amazing, unless you are a collector like me, However, if you are very keen to get them, probably is best the P&P versions. I don´t think they are going to re-release those ones, but who knows

I am a new player who only has the core set. I really enjoy the card game but I also really enjoy the story element. So far you're sent on a quest to deliver a message to Galadriel & the card game is the journey of the player. Do expansions build off of this?

Yes the storyline continues through all the card pack and expansion cycles with the exception of the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings boxes which follow the plot of the books/movies.
