    1. Make clutter management a daily priority (a bunch of 15-minute spurts) 2. Designate a place for everything 3. Don't put it aside, put it away (right away) 4. Stop being reactive, and start being be proactive (don't clean for your guests) 5. Don't argue over stuff, negotiate the space 6. Don't use storage to delay decisions 7. Once you diagnose the clutter, you can dispense the clutter 8. Things are not relationships 9. "Just in case" thinking is 10. You deserve peace in your space.

My children are both close to 40 years old. During the pandemic I cleaned out the attic. I took all my daughter's dolls and arranged them on the couch in a funny way. I took a picture and sent it to my daughter 2000 miles away. She chose 3 and I donated the rest. I did that with all my kids stuff. I believe it was easier for them to choose and decide what to let go because they had a picture. It took me about 7 weeks , but it was so gratifying. I bought a huge rolling duffle bag for each kids " treasures" . They are on a shelf in the garage , clearly marked with each child's name. I did this so my kids wouldn't have to when my husband and I move or die. Also we have no business being in the attic anymore at our age.

Great comment from Kathi about how some things are to pass through rather than stay in our hands. I live in an efficiency apartment and have accumulated a huge number of books, so many that the books cause me stress rather than give me a sense of anticipation. I've started giving away books that I haven't read. I'm a little sad at not having what those books would have brought into my life but more important for me is the peace that comes from having that much more open space. I'm controlling the books, not the books controlling me. I'm taking books to the Salvation Army and to Little Free Libraries and to the public library for the library bookstore and clearance sales. Maybe someone else will enjoy those donated books more that i would have enjoyed them. Sometimes I think of myself as a bridge that is used so a book gets from one person to another.

I reorganized my room last Sunday before I started school and it looks so nice I have made the commitment to keep it that way by actually putting stuff where it belongs rather than leaving it laying on the opposite side of the room. The only “problem” with this method is when you are the “kid” (23) of the house and can’t actually get rid of anything outside of your room. I have been cataloging our library (3000 and counting) and while I have no desire to get rid of a majority of the books there are about 100 that I doubt dad will ever read again (and if he does he probably has a digital copy) I want to “unhaul” them but am not sure if he will notice if I do

I've have struggled now for several years...since my husband left in 2010 after 17 years...feel trapped by it. No one to help only criticize, bthst I do all the time, or tell me how easy it is to get rid of. Guess there just is no help. I'm here alone most all the time, with my buddy Connor💙(doggie). When I've watched the Hoarders on tv, I cry for them, bc I know how they feel. Living in same house (60years) with mom who is now 99...and facing same. Blessed to have a giving spirit, but still a major challenge. She has personal effects from her entire family's history, and THEN some.

How do you do an intervention for a hoarder? In their own home. What's the procedure? They even pick up things others threw away or were about to throw away. HELP

The sad thing about hoarding, accumulating things to use "just in case" you or Somebody Else needs it in the future, is that when that day comes, often the item can't be found! That is SO FRUSTRATING! "I KNOW I HAVE IT, BUT WHERE?" Meanwhile, your house is messy & cluttered & weighs your life down!

I think it depends on how fast you can move the stuff you want to sell out of your house. If you have it listed for a while then you probably should just donate it to get it out of the house. Also sometimes the seasons we are in aren't conducive to selling things and they should be just be donated.

I lost everything to a house fire and it's hard to get rid of things for me. I know someone who lost everything in hurricane Katrina and it is even harder for her. I am a follower of Jesus and she is not. She has a much harder time getting rid of stuff than I do. Mine is a habit and I have to clean out every so often; she literally can't .. Pray that she will accept Jesus 💙

Its hard to maintain when you try and try and try and your married to Godzilla who says he cares and respects your wishes but then does the polar opposite then all your hard work of trying to maintain a home goes down the drain. I have kids too and I can handle them but to have a grown-up do it, over time I feel like I'm talking to a wall. Talking doesn't work.

This is torture. *So, also: since this was spun through my feeds, it is yet further evidence of our gadgets watching and listening what we say and do in our homes < To the amplified version of the point::: Everything had a place and was iN it's place and could be later immediately touched in its place, yes ... Pretty awfully crushing to someone who has previously LIVED and shared and taught this /these ideas, quite easily and casually and naturally, actually dual purposed::: to enjoy presently, and to also be prepared for the day when I became incapacitated DUE to this severe scoliosis and then fouled hysterectomy, now failures of digestive organs, displaced traumatized kidneys, and teeth, all from a lifetime of strain to function normally and properly, pain which prohibits motion, without adding more pain. The point: The clutter mode was' acceptable to pristine, cozy, tidy, organized heights -- but noW suffering (not cheerfully I must ask prayer for) physical incapacities which halt any motion, literal incapacitation of extreme skeletal and nervous system deformity and malfunction, except to get to laundry and to the toilet without help, in grievous PAIN to keep up what had been done for 40-50 YEARS,, only to be trampled also by 'gangstalkers' as property managers (thirteen =13 in a three year stint, no police charges brought yet) who(should I place NAMES AGAIN HERE?) enter when tenants are absent, stealing and breaking and stirring every little thing they have time for ,, from jewelry to groceries and food!!, and soap , deodorant, toothpaste, bath soap, ink pens, bobby pins, light bulbs , phone charging cords, lotion, paper clips, sunglasses, reading glasses, chap stick ,blisteX, blank checks, new bras, q-tips, (by the handfuls or the boxful, with receipt still on the counter from the day or week before, then taking receipts once they heard me say that , that I replaced for the 12OO'th time, hair bands, hangers, silverware, coffee cups, coFFE, scarves, family pictures, night lights, anything that had or was a cross///such as night lite, earrings, trinket box, over and over until I had to tell the cops and Jesus "I.GIVE!" . I was a cozy STORE to these people!! Still! These freaks are demons ,as Scripture tells, coming to steal, to corrupt and rust, to trip, to destroy the peaceful atmosphere, even that people would saY, and bring friends over to "see, and to feel the calm love of God" ... Once of a beautiful house I planned to stay the rest of my life, but was ousted by a walking dead, and have been shuffled now in and out of attempts to rE-organize, collections, even at times picture worthy thought some, because it was my job: homemaker, and the LORD had given me sense and capacity to maintain comfortable, inviting, purposeful environments . Kathi really ought read this, and she will see just by the sentences and vocabulary , what the current situation is up in here!!!! I was interrupted a few times so to add to the disheveled writing here . Pardons ? Laughs? Gasps? At least pray will ya? And now mom has died..and Dad is overwhelmed. We need help. We have asked. I have had SEVEN 'professional' business persons lined up, some actually came in, took time to check it all out, hear me out, discuss terms, times, costs, (as I had accepted I could not catch back up these lost yearS of being burgled and trashed, and sought assistance, willing to PAY, to get back what I'd done all my adult life. Good grieF. 1 Corinthians 14:33 and honor. There's at least 140 Bible verses come to mind, directly in rereading this, and deciding to leave it. Check. LordJesus, come quickly ...

The men laugh at the thought of guilt of keeping something because something was a gift. Well that’s how it works with women. Because the giver usually try’s to get you to keep stuff that way. I’ve straight up told people please don’t give me anything at this time. I don’t have room for any more.

I also noticed the frequent and annoying interruptions. It would have been so much better to watch and listen to this broacast if the hosts would have just let Kathi say all of what she had to say. Then the hosts could have responded or asked a question. It was not a well-done interview but Kathi was gracious about it.
