Tourette's syndrome is a neurological condition and disability which causes involuntary movements called tics. I use my platforms on social media such as TikTok, KZread and Instagram to advocate and raise awareness for the condition and show what it is like living with a disability as a teen in school.
My name is Zara Beth (zeezee25 on tiktok) and I post videos about tics, tic disorders and what its like to be a teen living with Tourette's syndrome, Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and a seizure disorder (NEAD/NES).
I show what its like having tics and Tourettes in class and in school and college, vlog, and I also bake, do other challenges and answer all your questions in Q and A videos.
I am also an ambulatory wheelchair user so I show what life looks like using various mobility aids and how needs change from day to day!
I am also a musician! My newest release is my first single (original song) called "She's Mine" which is now available on all streaming services - I sing and play piano, guitar, ukulele and I write, produce, mix and master all my own songs and content myself!

My cousin has a friend with Tourettes and once I was hanging out with them and it was going pretty well she was having a good day but out of nowhere she her tics started increasing a lot and she said the n-word out loud and she happened to be looking at me (I'm black btw). Everyone around started yelling at her and insulting her and I don't remember how many times I told them about her condition and that it was not her fault but they didn't care and blamed her. They even accused her of faking it. It was chaotic and my cousin was trying to help her to get some space so she wouldn't hurt herself or anyone but they wouldn't leave. I was so furious that I pushed them they then turned to me calling me ungrateful and so on. Then I had enough and called the police. She's traumatized till this day, it took her almost 7 months to leave her house again. It makes me frustrated that some people just don't have maturity and any kind of respect for someone with a condition like this.

I'm a black and Indian woman. I understand. It isn't their fault if they say it. I have a Caucasian friend with tiks who does say it. N let me tell you she cries so hard every time when it comes out. The tears coming from her eyes are so heartfelt. It breaks my heart seeing her go thru that. She thinks I'm going to stop being her friend one day because of that word. I would never leave her over a word. There was a time where a incident occured and I was called that in front of her and she went in on those elderly women. Then she went to the owner of the place where it happened and got them put out. I know my friend and know her heart... But she can't help it. She comes from a Christian family and they're all beautiful soulful people. They believe in equality. So if anyone comes across someone with tiks and they do say that word just remember they can't help it. Don't take offense to it. Life is too short.

He would blink in one eye so many times for a few seconds or something it's hard to explain😅 but I would help him with his other tic, which is when he pulls his pointer finger or middle finger non stop, and because I can't stop him from doing it I usually try and distract him with something so his stress goes down😁 it sometimes helps but sometimes it doesn't.

I have a friend who has Tourette’s and the N word is one of his tics. Usually it’s completely random and when people say “it’s because he’s thinking it”, well yes it’s because he’s thinking “Don’t say it. Don’t say it” and he ends up saying it. Luckily everyone understands because he has involuntarily called many black people the N word but they all know what Tourette’s is. Sometimes my friends will purposely try to trigger his tics by saying “Ricky, who steals ?” or “Hey Ricky ! Who picks cotton ?” and he gets so mad at them because he will end up ticking the N word and he gets embarrassed as hell.

I haven't said it irl or if do, I have I cover my mouth very hard so ppl wouldn't even know (in my experience I have a mental tic/intrusive thought before a tic happens so I usually know). Ppl who tic don't choose anything we do or say and it's so frustrating when people fake claim due to saying sentences, slurs, or anything fucked up rlly. Thank u for posting this, it rlly helps ppl like myself who have the n word as a tic bc if ppl don't know this is a thing then we can get into fucked up situations bc of it

When my hospital cleared me for driving, (I have both Tourette’s and FND) they told me that because I was generally aware before things happened/got bad I would be okay to drive as long as I was sensible with it! For example, if I felt attacks coming on etc, to pull over until it ended or find the nearest place to park for its duration! (Seeing as most roads have a layby or nearby service station.) I’ve never had an attack while driving, but I think part of that is due to how focused I get while driving, which helps me regulate and keep calm, which then also calms my tics! Hope this helps!

Why are tics usually negative... like cussing out ppl, calling them names? Why dont ppl have tics by complimenting ppls clothes or smile...?

Swear words are a whole other form of speech in our brains, thats why many neurodivergent people can struggle to talk but are fluent in swearing, it's also why people with tics have many wear words tics

I used to go to school in Mount Vernon, NY at AB Davis Middle School in the 90s and one year there was a kid with Tourette’s syndrome and he really took a liking to my name. So now I think there’s a guy out there saying “f**k deepak” at the most random times. If you’re out there bro, I can’t remember your name but I hope that didn’t get you canceled.

Not at all the same- but I have OCD and I sometimes get these very disturbing and out of character thoughts that I have to counter act with a “good thought” or specific action. I heard that this is actually pretty common in people with OCD and that very often the thoughts that come up are specially ones that negate our character. For example if you have specifically a major fear of a specific animal that thought might be that you want it to come inside. I imagine that with turrets a tic like this would be similar. You would never ever want to use that word- but that’s precisely why it becomes a tick. Not at all a fact it’s just a possible similarity

I just wanted to say thanks for sharing your life and experience. My son who’s 9 was just diagnosed with OCD.. I don’t know much of what it entails other than basic generic info like doing things over and over and being very specific.. but I know that’s not everyone and everything about it. So i really like to read about how others experience and research on my own. ❤

What's truly disgusting is people that say hate based things & then make the insult even worse by pretending they have a condition like yours to get by with it or make a joke out of it... I for one applaud you for being brave enough to put yourself & your condition out there to the world, not to gain sympathy or special treatment, but to educate... That's truly awesome!!! Oh & BTW you are absolutely beautiful & you have the sweetest & most gentle voice! 😇

@@Realhokage07not really, someone who has a condition which controls what comes out of their mouth could be seriously put down by bullies about their voice or the "sound effects" they make, so one comment doesn't make this dude a simp its just being a decent human being
