As an RD, how do you become in network with insurance companies? And do you do the billing and coding yourself?

You can start by visiting their website and click on "join network" or "become a provider". There's a lot of paperwork to fill out. I do all the billing and codes myself. Luckily there aren't too many to keep track of for MNT.

Hi Amy! Thank you for your content :) I'm an RD considering a virtual private practice. I finished your book last week and am feeling more and more like this is the right decision for me! I had a question about telehealth. If you are counseling someone for weight loss, does it matter that you can't physically weigh them? It is hard for me to imagine doing telehealth and not obtaining anthropometrics to measure their success!

You’re quite welcome! I find no issues with working remotely with clients and getting anthropometric data to track . The majority of my clients are quite forthcoming with sharing their weight, glucose, blood pressure, etc that they track at home, whether it be using a smart device or tracking in a notebook. Hasn’t been an issue for me at all.

How could you practice, if you don't have referrals?

People can self refer, (without provider referrals)
