you can combine netherite sword with dragon katana. so if you upgraded your sh3 fa2 sword to netherite you can combine it with dragon katana to get sh3 fa2 katana.

its more then just personal preferernce, there is only one "right" way, when the puffy cannon is not in your offhand then whenever you pull it out you have to wait for its pull out animation and you cant insantly fire when its off cooldown after switching from another slot, however when it is in your off hand this problem is solved and you can fire instantly without needing to go through the pull out animation. The second it is off cooldown you can shoot it, thus meaning the correct/best way to use the puffy is having it in your off hand

How is it a waste, netherite doesn’t add extra armor only adds toughness and knock back resistance equally. I’d argue boots before chestplate is better for the durability
