You are not almost experiencing PTSD. You are experiencing PTSD. My cancer was almost 12 years ago and scans are still stressful. Fatigue takes longer than you can imagine. Give yourself time and space. Stay strong.

Psychologist here: this doesn’t match the diagnosis PTBS. Be careful with terms you are using. There’s a trend to use words like trauma or specific diagnosis (like ADHD) very often and fast but nobody knows the criteria for the actual diagnosis. Not every heavy to take event in life is a trauma. And not every heavy event causes a psychiatric disorder. Humans are resilient, some more, some less. She experienced a very dragging medical treatment while also having to figure out her mental situation - to feel like this afterwards is totally normal. That’s why psychiatric diagnosis always need a minimal duration time frame, not just some days or weeks. It’s okay to feel like shit sometimes is what i’m trying to say. It’s appropriate and totally normal. If it doesn’t stop you should look for help. :)

THANK YOU ❤️Your chatting about how difficult it is to get out of the routine of staying in bed is extremely helpful to me! I’m 72, with arthritis that makes getting up and out very challenging. But you’re setting a great example of fighting to keep going even if you don’t feel like you have it in you.

Great job. I am retired and usually sleep til noon, rarely make my bed, put away my clean clothes or do any of the productive things you are doing. I do take care of chickens, dogs and cat but my self not so much. I do have some medical problems that go with being old enough to be retired, but it is basically that I am just lazy. When you are working or going to school you have to do things, but when you should but do not have to it is easy to let things slip. If you have 2 or 3 weeks in a row that are downhill or not very good pls talk to someone about it, many things do not get better without a little help and delaying just makes things worse. Good to see you rocking it this week and setting reasonable goals. Go girl!

Jess, do you have a pharmacologist / pharmacist as part of your team? They may be able to tell you more about your lungs as related to all the chemicals. I'm remembering that lung issues were mentioned earlier on in your chemo treatment, so I'm sure what you're experiencing is directly related to that. Good to check to see what you can do to improve function. xxoo Oh! The beach! There are so many identity issues tied in with a cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery partly just because your body keeps changing with each new week or so. The last time we experienced this type of rapid change was as toddlers and then again in early adolescence. Your proactive manner in the form of goal setting, increasing time out of the house, etc, are great ways to begin to address this upheaval in your life. Just give yourself permission to take a day off when you need to. Be gentle toward yourself. xxoo

Aw, hearing you talk about your mouth ulcers in a different place reminded me of when I was in hospital having very strong IV antibiotics. These gave me thrush which I had to try and explain to a foreign male nurse who only spoke a bit of English (just enough for him to be able to do his job). I first tried to tell him how the antibiotics kill the good bacteria along with the bad which causes thrush. He couldn’t grasp this so I then explained about thrush in your mouth, how it gives you a white tongue, but that you can also get this in another place. I thought he understood when he said that he was going to get me something for it. Unfortunately he came back with a mouthwash, tee hee. I then had to explain that I couldn’t use mouthwash in that area. I can laugh about it now but it was actually really uncomfortable. I hope your mouth ulcers in another place aren’t too sore and heal quickly. Love and hugs ❤xx

I am right there with you dealing with the mental part of ending therapy. I had a rare form of breast cancer with a year and a half of therapy. I am in remission now but mentally struggling. While I am so thankful that treatment worked I can’t seem to find my before cancer joy. Everyone moves on ( as they should) while I still am completely terrified. I am seeing a therapist and she assures me that feeling this way is completely normal. I look forward to waking up some day and cancer being in the background. Congratulations and I wish all the best for you! We are all in this journey together!💪🏻❤️🩷

Your rocking it girlfriend. Nothing to be ashamed of if you need some professional help getting through the transition from chemo. Its great that your talking about your mental health. It may help you become more aware of where your at and it definately helps others who are struggling, not necessarily dealing with cancer. Everyone needs to talk about mental health so the shitty stigma that is attached to it finally disappears. You are a great role model chicklet.

The third one is Things We Left Behind and it’s AMAZING! (I’m an ARC reader for Lucy Score so I got a copy early) trigger warning though, I don’t think it spoils anything since it opens with it within the first paragraph… there is quite a bit of talk of cancer and death of a secondary character (no one we knew from the first books). So just a warning if that might be too hard to read right now. The whole book doesn’t revolve around it though, but it is a bit heavier emotionally than the others. Lucy does it wonderfully and does everyone justice so it is worth reading. Just wanted to give the small warning.

It really sucks being young and having pulmonary issues. My was due to double pneumonia at 15. It took me what seemed like forever yo recover. pulmonary rehabilitation is a thing that would have helped me then. I dont know if it existed in the 1980's or not, but i didn't know about it. It can just be exercises to help you recover. Im just bringing it up because ive never had it offered to me, even though i qualified for it. It does help.

Jess, you probably are dealing with PTSD. My great-grandson had stage 4 neuroblastoma at 1 year old. He went through 8 months of chemotherapy treatments. He was diagnosed with PTSD and had to see a therapist who specialized in this with young kids. It was hard because he wasn’t talking much. He is currently cancer free!! 👏🏻🎉🎊🙏🏻. He just started pre-k two days ago. He is a bit fussy about being away from his parents and home. They are evaluating him to decide if he needs to be one on one for now. There’s one teacher in his class whom he has fallen in love with. They are hoping that she is going to be the one that is with him. Praying that it’ll be better for him soon. Praying that everything goes better for you too.

Ouch Jess, so sorry to learn of your sensitive areas, makes my eyes water. You are probably feeling so good now but it’s a bit like when you’ve had flu (I know chemo is lot,lot worse) but your first day of feeling better you go overboard, because you feel so much better, but the day after it comes back to bite you and you feel tired. So, pace yourself, be kind to yourself, eat, sleep, read, rest and exercise gently. I didn’t go through chemo myself but supported my husband and even I can’t drive past the hospital as it makes my stomach turn, so goodness knows what you must be feeling, journalling is good, writing, drawing, photos, vlog, whatever makes it easier.

Building your lung strength without exercising. This works two fold, when you lie down for bed, stay on your back, relax your body, it will going into a natural breathing cycle; breathing in through your nose, your diaphragm will expand/rise/open/spread. Do not force any of your muscles. Just relax and be self aware of your natural breathing. This may lead to you falling asleep and that is okay because it means you are really relaxed; it also can be the beginning of meditation which is wonderful as well. Here's the lung strengthening: deeper/bigger breaths; while you are relaxed, be self aware stay relaxed, every time you breath in, take a deeper breath keep a consistent smooth flow of inhale and exhale while staying relaxed. It may be difficult at first but it will help your lungs. Keep doing this for a week and notice how much larger your diaphragm will expand. Keep this as your new nightly routine. If you find your asking yourself too many questions, if your doing it right, you're not relaxed. - this advise is coming from singer, wishing you well - Lucinda

Having 3 goals and then seeing how it goes is a fantastic idea. So proud of you getting back to "normal" at a pace that is right for you depending on how you feel and what you need. So thankful you're done with chemo.

I literally yelled out loud when you mentioned the reason for the daily baths. This has been my biggest challenge with the ongoing oral chemo which I have been on for years now. Its endless micro attention to what I eat, drink, exercise... everything. The potential pain in unspeakable. I have had times when I would sob and shake... talk about PTSD! No one warned me. But then what would they say? After years of this my oncologist is now floating the idea of discontinuing the drugs. Not because I am forever healed and there is any hope that tumors will not return if I stop, but it's a quality of life issue she says. There are no data available for this as these drugs are so new. I was diagnosed in 2014 and have had recurrence multiple times. Radiation seems to work as do the daily oral drugs. I am writing this because you helped me by opening up about something that is so deep and scary for me. But, also because you are just starting aftercare and realizing the need to keep fighting and to keep learning and leaning in. I doubt I will stop the drugs; I will likely just continue to fight to stay present and hopeful. I just bought a bullet journal- thanks for the mention- I am hoping that better tracking will help me balance on this razer edge of functionality. Take some time to rest, its ok. You hit on some things that do take some work and you are doing great!

Jess, taking probiotics and prebiotics and well as eating yogurt with live cultures help heal those sores. It also helps improve your gut health. All of those things helped me immensely. 🥰

You are a sweetheart and make no mistake, because Jess you are a warrior. Survival mode is exactly what going through chemotherapy is like. I was diagnosed with stage 3, with lymph node involvement, Colo-rectal cancer. There were days I wasn't able to pickup my head but even sick we push through in survival mode. You have shown yourself to be a strength onto yourself. I am sure God has special plans for you ahead. Take things ahead one day at a time. You will one day realize your patience and strength have healed you and how quickly healing has happened. Bless you Jess your channel will help others to heal as well.

I follow your mum and now you too, and I often think how marvellous that you have a house on the beach. You have your own spa. I got through years of very tough times just from relaxing by the sea and being in the water. I found the salt water healed my skin and helped with the sores that you also suffer from. Stay strong, girl 💙

Hi Jessica. I have followed you and your cancer journey since you started. I am so proud of you!I pray for you and your family as you have so much going on. About the sleeping: I lost three significant people in my life in one month. I have found that is that sleeping helps me process and heal, physically and emotionally. Listen to what your body needs. If it tells you to sleep, then sleep. Blessings!

You are absolutely adorable…I am so thankful that your Chemotherapy is behind you, and you are gaining your strength back. I am recovering from my treatments last week, they leave me aching and completely exhausted,,,so tired that I just lay and sleep. I will get to feeling better after 7-10 days, and get some energy back. I have one more treatment the end of this month, then be done. Thank God. I have been a little anxious lately thinking about it. I have followed your journey, as I have been on my own,,,you are an inspiration sweetheart, keep posting and being honest, it helps us out here…

Jessica, I am so very inspired and educated by your Journey, I am an oncology infusion nurse. I have been doing this for over 30 years and listening to your story has brought a whole new understanding of what patients really go through during and after treatment. Thank you and your mom for being so honest, and real about the struggles and wins you have experienced. I have learned so much from you! I will incorporate my new understanding into my practice. Best wishes for a full and rapid recovery & a long and happy life 🐑& thank your Mom for her contributions to your journey and expressing her side of watching her child go through this. 👍🏻😻

Don't worry too much about your lungs struggling straight away. Due to lack of activity during chemo your fitness will be at an all time low. This means your lungs need to work harder until you regain fitness. I am borderline asthmatic and when I am really unfit my lungs go much worse. Gain fitness and I have no issues. There might be long term impact from that chemo drug but there will be short term impact as well.
