Welcome back to the Foxhole 🦊🤘🔥 Nice introduction, just a couple of notes might need some correction, they started to blew up outside of Japan after Gimme Chocolate!! was released in 2014, heck! they even started the 1st Europe Tour in that year reaching Sonisphere Festival in the UK and after that it all went up, they went to US at the end of the same year and playing as a support band for Lady Gaga. 2016 was the year of launching their second album Metal Resistance, that's why they went to Stephen Colbert Show to promote that album like you saw him doing but they didn't play any song from that album, they just went with the track that made them more famous. Also the Jpop idol show all of them comes from is called Sakura Gakuin formed in 2010, it's not strictly a real academy nor school but it worked that way teaching the girls how to be professionals in the entertainment industry, they didn't last more than 3 or 4 years and after that they "graduate" leaving the show. BabyMetal was a subunit from that main group working as the "heavy metal club" following the school theme, but BM become independent in 2013 and the rest is history. I don't wanna be so long with more details but if you wanna know a full updated BM guide i suggest you "The Not So Extensive Guide To BabyMetal" by A Fox Song, trust me it'll worth every second. Anyway keep enjoying more BM songs and see you next time 🦊🤘❤

This is a comment I saw in your last BabyMetal reaction "You should watch Babymetal from10+ years ago and your heart will melt at how cute they were.. they're like a basketfull of fluffy kittens snuggling with playful puppies. Ohhh , and they were singing and dancing to the heaviest metal riffs." I feel like every word of this depiction of BabyMetal is spot on and true. Thanks for your great reaction.

It's so cool to see OSN helping introduce Babymetal to you! You'll find the fan base is a little... nuts and sure he got a few details skewed but he absolutely conveyed the general overview of what Babymetal is. Hope you check out more of their catalog! Remember: their live stage performances are always the best!

Thanks for doing this, it's pretty good, others already pointed out some details. But I think an important part of the story is: motivation of starting Babymetal. The producer who started Babymetal: Kobametal, used to work with bands, but bands music was in decline in Japan. Kind of like rock and metal became less mainstream. So he was asked by the company to work at the kids department and there he got to work with Suzuka/Su-metal and noticed she was very talented (something a lot of people in the company already knew of course) and she also had a very loud/straight voice and he though, what if he can combine her loud voice with the loud metal music he loves.... But obviously because of the decline of metal music the company wasn't gonna fund this crazy idea. But a year later or so, he made sure he was involved in the same project as her and within the larger group he was allowed to do this Babymetal idea without the regular funding.

Good job with the intro to BABYMETAL from OSN.🦊 OK some of the dates and details were a bit off, but that doesn't matter so much in the grand scheme of things ... and there are plenty of comments with corrections etc already. You asked how long the girls were working and training together before their first public appearance. Sakura Gakuin (the Idol group with a school theme that OSN still thinks was a real academy ... OK, understandable, it did sort of double as that) was formed by the Amuse Talent Agency in the first half of 2010, so all the girls were getting together (at weekends I assume since they were all going to their own day schools - and Su was commuting in to Tokyo from Hiroshima) learning routines and practising etc. BABYMETAL's first song was recorded at the end of October 2010 and they made their first public appearance performing that song at the first Sakura Gakuin show in November 2010. I'm sure I saw the links posted in one or two of the comments below. They recorded 4 or 5 songs while in SG (all of them were later included on their own first album in 2014) and they separated from SG to become an independent band in 2013. In anticipation of that the Kami Band was phased in playing the encores in some shows from October 2012 and they became the full time support for all live shows (not the studio recordings) from March 2014 when the album was released. It is fairly obvious which song and performance OSN is showing you next. Just in case - that was in January 2015 at the Saitama Super Arena in Tokyo with over 20k people. Su was a couple of weeks or so past her 17th birthday, Yui and Moa were both 15.

Ok, Babymetal started in 2010 as the heavy music club in a Japanese idol group called Sakura Gakuin (SG) All three members are founding members and were 11/10 years old (Doki Doki Morning). Su graduated when she turned 15 and that was 2013/14 they released their first album. Up to that point the singles were released as part of SG albums. 2014 marks the point that Babymetal became a distinct act with Su at 15 and Moa and Yui at 14 for their first shows here in Britain.

When you talk about the intensity of what is behind them, something else to notice, which isn't clear at first, they also dance with intensity (because they are dancing with the music), this is part of why it works. 11:07 months, when Babymetal got started as part of a bigger project, is also when they first worked intensely together, they had actually met before separately, at 1 day events. If you want to go back to the start: Doki Doki Morning MV is the first MV, that's about a year since the public release of the song. There was little time to work together and a low budget. They were wearing borrowed clothes, etc. After that check out the 1 minute video: making of doki doki morning And BABYMETAL - DEBUT - Sakura Gakuin Festival 2010 - Doki Doki Morning Which is some months later.

To answer a few of her questions: The Amuse talent agency started an idol group themed on school life. With songs about school, learning, sports, extra curricular activities and such. Babymetal was first known as the Heavy Music Club, as they also had other clubs such as the baton club, cooking club, science club, etc., as subunits of the whole group. From 2010 thru 2014, they only released singles thru Sakura Gakuin albums. In 2014 they compiled all these singles and b sides into their first album release in 2014. All the girls of Sakura Gakuin were chosen through auditions and talent contest. Most, if not all of the girls have been to acting and performance schools prior to joining Amuse Talent Agency. So although they were very young, they were already trained and continued training as they were starting their careers at Amuse. There is a year and a half difference in age between Su-Metal (Suzuka Nakamoto) and the other two girls, Moametal (Moa Kikuchi) and Yuimetal (Yui Mizuno) Yes, the "watatatata dokyun" part is a machine gun and ricochet sound 😂 To clarify, you cannot label BABYMETAL with just one song, a they mix every genre of music you can think of into cute metal. Indian? Shanti Shanti Shanti Latin? Night Night Burn Celtic? Oh Majinai Slipknot? Catch me If You Can Prog? Tales of the Destinies Ska? Yava You get my drift. You've only just begun. As Sakura Gakuin members, the idol group also did acting skits, school room skits like tests and field trips, music videos, live concerts, commercials, variety show appearances, etc, IN Japan. So they are "veterans" of the stage, so to speak, already. Like child actors in the West. Only...better trained and behaved. 2015 and 2016 are when Babymetal were at their peak. It is not their first appearance identity, THAT was 2011-12 when Su graduated and Babymetal SHOULD'VE dissolved with her graduation from SG, but had gotten so popular it became its own entity, BEFORE they even hit the West two years later. It became fully its own, when Moa and Yui finally graduated from SG in 2014. But make no mistake, they were already big way before this. Oh, and 20,000 ain't nothing. Tokyo Dome was 55,000... TWICE!

One slight clarification, Suzuka graduated in 2013 (2012 Nendo) and Yui/Moa graduated in 2015 (2014 Nendo). Unlike the West, Japan marks the school year by when it begins and not when it ends.

So they were all enrolled in a music academy that had 10-15 girls ages 10-15 who trained as a J-pop girl group. One of the sub clubs was the heavy music club. Their producer (KobaMetal) wanted to broaden the appeal of metal and chose SuMetal (Suzuka Nakamoto) as the main singer and MoaMetal (Moa Kikuchi) and YuiMetal (Yui Mizuno) as backup singers. Each year the academy released an album of all the girls. Babymetal’s first song was on one of the albums in 2010 - Doki Doki Morning (about a tween trying to wake up and decide what to wear). It took off and a year or so later they created a music video for the song. The girls “graduated” from the academy at 15 years old. By that time they had taken off and became independent of the academy and were promoted by the Amuse agency. In the beginning their music was a backing track and they hired actors as the concert band. But after a few years they had become such a phenomenon that the Kami band came to be. Gimme Chocolate is the song that went internationally viral.

Just for clarification since lot of people get it confused. That "music academy" called Sakura Gakuin wasn't actually a real school. It was just an idol group themed around school. Every single girl in Sakura Gakuin was also enrolled in a normal school aswell.

Great reaction! 🤘🦊🤘 Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance!!! BABYMETAL is a Japanese kawaii (cute) metal group (a metal subgenre that they created) that formed in 2010 when the 3 girls were 11-12 years old (yes, they were very young), and since then have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), Electric Callboy, and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Download, Sonisphere, Glastonbury, etc), US, and Asia. They are the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley arena in the UK. Also, 20+ awards have been given to them. They have 60+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too. Also, they released a new amazing album last year and they just finished a world tour where they had many shows here in the US. They also recently released a new music video for their song called "Metali" that features Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello. 🤘🦊🤘

Yeah, as others have mentioned, there is so much to say here, but I'm sure others have already corrected you on much of the misinterpreted information you've passed along. Love your passion, dude. But watch any of the Babymetal guides and you'll know more and pretty much guarantee you'll appreciate them more. But I will include some info that wasn't mentioned yet. Amuse Talent Agency hired Suzuka Nakamoto straight from Actors School Hiroshima at about 12 years old after the producer Kei Kobayashi saw her at the jpop idol group Karen Girls farewell concert. Yes, she did go to a prestigious school. But Moa and Yui and Momoko were all selected to be part of the jpop idol group Sakura Gakuin, which is unofficially a training cadre of their best talented girls. Sakura Gakuin is not a school, but is themed as a school for girls 10-15 years old. There they are exposed to all aspects of the entertainment industry so when they 'graduate' at 15 years old, they can decide to go down which ever path they want. One even became a nurse instead of staying in the entertainment industry. When girls graduate out, new girls transfer in every year. Sakura Gakuin was created in 2010, and Babymetal was a subunit called the Heavy Music Club. Sakura Gakuin has released one studio album every year for 10 years until their disbandment in 2021. Although it was groundbreaking exposure for them in the US, not their best performance. It was late at night, the girls were tired, and super nervous. This NY trip was long and jam packed with interviews and photoshoots and spot appearances. Thank you so much for delving into Babymetal. Hope to see more reactions!

"Amuse Talent Agency hired Suzuka Nakamoto straight from Actors School Hiroshima at about 12 years old after the producer Kei Kobayashi saw her at the jpop idol group Karen Girls farewell concert." That's not quite right. Su was 8 years old when she was admitted to Actors School Hiroshima (ASH) in 2006. She did so well on her singing audition that she was awarded a scholarship for her first year. Suzuka signed with Amuse, Inc. in 2007 when she was 9 years old. Karen Girl's began in 2008, and Su was 11 years old at the time of their final concert in 2009.

Couple of corrections. BABYMETAL did not start in 2014 but in 2010. They were doing Sakura Gakuin stuff and BABYMETAL stuff at the same time so I guess that's why you thought they "really" became babymetal in 2014 eventhough that's wrong. However their first album did come out in 2014. And the kami band wasn't there from the start. The girls did their singing and dancing to a backing track for a while before kamis were introduced. Also babymetal started getting global exposure and went viral in 2013-2014 when gimme chocolate was released. Not in 2016 like you said.

Haha nice, thank you OldSkuleNerd for the introduction to Babymetal. Although, you were a bit off on some of the years and a few things, but what ever, close enough lol. Babymetal started as a sub-unit (Heavy Music Club) of the school themed idol group Sakura Gakuin in 2010. Initially, they didn't have a band and just had backing tracks. Here's Babymetal's first song, first live debut ever, and the rehersal clips (2010): kzread.info/dash/bejne/noJhtM6qdausec4.htmlsi=YtNb4y1ExM5Yg2TK They made it big in Japan by ~2013. Kami Band had joined in 2012 for encores only, then as the full backing band in 2014 for all live shows. Babymetal broke through to the west via UK in mid 2014. So by the time of the Steven Colbert performance (2016), Babymetal is already fairly well known internationally. They sold out Wembley Arena in the UK 3 days before Steven Colbert's appearance, and their world tour ended that year with 2 back-to-back sold out shows at the Tokyo Dome (55K crowd both nights). That's equivalent of an American artist selling out Madison Square Garden. Look forward to the next video! 🤘🦊

So many almost correct information that my inner nerd is just itching to correct. 😆But OldSkuleNerd actually explained the essence of Babymetal very well so, I will hold out a bit and only correct some of the info. About the "academy/school" that he mentioned. It's NOT a real school. Sakura Gakuin is a school themed Idol group. Basically, they are a girl group that performs in school uniform as their "costume" and most of their activities/concert follows a school concept. The members are between 10 to 15 years old only. That's why they have a concept of "Graduation" where members that finish their 3rd year of middle school has to "graduate" (leave) the group. And then there's a "New Transfer Student" where new member will join the group. Sakura Gakuin usually operate between 10-12 members. And usually, Idol group that has many members have a sub-group. It is where a few of the members perform as a "branch unit" of the group. Sakura Gakuin has many sub-group and since they are school themed, the sub-group are referred to as "club activities". These "club activities" usually perform songs that are different style than the main group. Babymetal was the "Heavy Music Club". And that's where it all started in 2010. They went independent in March 2013 after Su-Metal (the lead singer) "graduated" from Sakura Gakuin. Early on, they would perform under Sakura Gakuin activities and event with a backtrack since it's usually how Idol group performs. For their early shows, they couldn't yet afford to hire a live band. The Kami Band, joins them on stage in 2013 for the encores only. They became a permanent presence after they perform at Budokan in March 2014. Gimme Chocolate MV was released in early 2014 and that's the one that went viral on the internet. The Babymetal worldwide phenomenon began in July 2014 after their appearance at Sonisphere (metal festival) in the UK. That's all. I'll be following your journey down the Fox-Hole (Babymetal version of the rabbit-hole). Enjoy!!! 🦊🦊🦊

I have never ever heard Sumetal referred to, or spelled as "Suimetal" Her full name is Suzuka Nakamoto, and she is always referred to as Sumetal. Otherwise, his into of Babymetal to Maria was a good one.

The choreography of Gimme Chocolate, the lead singer is the characterized wanting chocolate but worried getting weight. The two on the side, one is an angel, the other is playing the devil that jibber-jabbered beside the ears of the singer. The hand gesture is not a gun, it's poking from the words of devil and angel. In the end, the girl said "I have finished my homework and well behaved, gimme some chocolate, please~!" Well, that's how I interpreted the choreography.😂

Su has been on stage since she was 6 years old. She has been performing ever since. She was 12 when Babymetal was formed and it was all formed because of her. No Su no Babymetal . The other two were 11 when they started bringing the twin factor to Babymetal. Now next to me you should do Road of Resistance from Japan 2015. You have to see them live and how they control the crowds. No one else does it like them. Babymetal opened the door to the west for Japanese bands.

Your facts and dates are a little off 😂😂😂 but it's all good. They started in 2010 as a subunit of the idol group Sakura Gakuin (not an actual academy, but a school themed idol group). They went VIRAL in 2014 with the song Gimme Chocolate, but they had been around since 2010 already.

A fox hole, not a rabbit hole BABYMETAL is both a group name and a subgenre name referring to a newly created genre. SU-METAL answers this question in an interview starting at 4:55 in the BABYMETAL Guide. kzread.info/dash/bejne/mXiix5Kxp9HPhMo.htmlsi=GJlZO_Ktcs066cah

So much to say here. Gimme Chocolate is a good starter song for your Babymetal journey, but there are a lot of other songs that are still kawaii, but they really show more 'serious' singing and performing and are less achingly cute, if I can put it that way, and more straight-ahead rock. Check out such sweeping epics as this particular performance of Road of Resistance: kzread.info/dash/bejne/rIh5u7d_l6_clbw.html Or Headbanger: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i56eubyplsLQg9Y.html But of course there is SO much more. Those will get you rolling though 🙂

Nice one! 😄 Good choice of performance! The appearance at the Late Show is a very good showcase of some very special things about BABYMETAL. Beware, wall of text ahead! There are some details, which were gotten wrong. I´m sure that´s because BABYMETAL really is a HUGE thing, and to grasp it in full needs an insane amount of learning time😁 BABYMETAL was fully established in 2012, still officially running as a "Sakura Gakuin" subgroup, but already performing outside the SG subgroup frame, although they did their performances without the Kami Band at first. Backtrack was used for the music, and our ladies performed on their own. They did several festival appearances, e.g. Summer Sonic Festival, Tokyo area, Japan, as one of the best known early appearances. Sometimes you will see some people on the stage, pretending to play the instruments. These were NOT the Kami Band! They wear skeleton onesies and are called "Baby Bones". Just actors, no musicians, yet. Before that, they did several even smaller gigs, which are much more obscure, even to most people knowing about BABYMETAL. E.g., recently I learned about a performance at the "Idol Yoko Cho Festival". Su-Metal had twin pigtails there 😉 At that time, they performed virtually without any budget from the talent agency, so they did it all on their own. Their producer is said to have raked in some money from his own pockets and from other sources for sure, the girls borrowed clothes from friends and family, and so on. Following were some solo concerts (still 2012!), well known is their first solo concert at the "Rock May Kan" in Tokyo (that one was WILD!), but even more important solo concerts are the "Legend IDZ" concerts. There is a video out there, showing the girls re-visiting that "Rock May Kan" venue some years later, btw. 😄 At one of these "Legend IDZ" concerts, Legend I, the "Kami Band" had its first appearance, they did some songs of the encore live. There´s a story out there, telling that BOH asked BABYMETAL´s producer "Kobametal" how they should play, as there are very young, very smol 😱😆 GIRLS in front of them. Kobametal is said to have answered: "Play as FAST and as LOUD as you can! Don´t care that there are very young girls in front of you". Su-Metal got on top of them quite easily, and BOH is said to have been VERY comfortable with it, right after the first live performances of the Kami Band. You could hear that in the Late Show performance. The Kami Band plays full throttle, no consideration regarding "cute, little girls in front!", nothing. And ALL of them have fun! Did you watch Hideki Aoyama (the drummer) singing while drumming? 😆 Mikio Fujioka (RIP) and his student, Takayoshi Ohmura, playing guitar and smiling all the time? BOH, the God of 6 string bass, going all out? The girls doing their performance and having VISIBLE fun doing it? That´s BABYMETAL in a nutshell. Fun. Joy. Kawaii overload. HEAVY metal. 😁
