Thats exactly what i tell the persistant friends that just want to know how, but dont want to get into magic. "Imagine if i tell you one little secret..but then all magic tricks will be ruined for you..i made the mistake..now i can do all the tricks..but i have no joy seeing magic anymore (LIE)..do you really want to pay that price?" Most people then then get it and say "oh..no..its ok...but damn.."

"Is magic real?" Every time I show my kids a trick, that I have learned from your channel or The Russian Genius's channel or any other channel, their eyes light up the room. Like it's the best thing they've ever seen. So, to me, YES. It is absolutely real. I witness honest to God magic every time they smile in amazement. And I thank you for that.

One of my favorite lines comes from Mike Skutt. When asked “how did you do that?”, he leans in and softly says “it’s not how I do it, but why I do it … ” and leaves it at that. I like that it’s kind of a surprisingly deep rhetorical question that causes them reflect.

I've been watching your videos every now and again for some time, and I somehow went down the KZread rabbit hole that brought me to three years ago, but I just have to say - as a high school mathematics teacher, SO MUCH of what you're saying is what a lot of pedagogues need to hear. Yeah, sure it looks like we speak the mysteries of the world to legions of unassuming minds, much like magicians do in performance, but this notion of EMPOWERING and GIVING SOMETHING THAT THEY CAN THEN OWN is so strong, and so necessary. Love your stuff. Thanks for the entertainment and the insight.

you're just too awesome Chris. And I actually do those things you said especially when I mess up. I just tell them, I'm still practicing, don't have it quite down yet. I gotta say you are an admirable individual. I'm just starting doing card tricks now but I remember when I learned my first one and showed people, what really attracted me to learning more was the reaction they had and how I was able to brighten up their day, and that in turn made me feel better. And I felt a connection to magic that way because it gave me that same good feeling of being able to make someone feel some positivity, like when I take care of my patients as a nurse (btw I'm a nurse). So much respect to you. Love what you do and why you do it. I hope to learn more from watching your videos. And God willing we can meet some day and I can show you if I've reached that "advanced" level.

This is good stuff. I like how you talked about being human and not trying to be above someone else. If you know magic they know other things you don''t...so respect those you preform for. I like what Teller of Penn and Teller said, "Sometimes, magic is just someone spending more time on something than anyone else might reasonably expect." This is enough for some people because you're letting them know it took more time to practice then they would probably want to take and they are OK with that. They'd rather pursue the thing they are interested in, and you can be happy that at least for a moment they were interested in what you do.

I love how you go through the psychology of it and try to explain how to make people more interested. I'm a beginner (learned here and there as a kid but wasn't invested). Imo, if someone genuinely wants to know how a magic trick works, I like to show them. As long as they're not an audience member during a performance, I would rather empower someone than tell them "uhuhuh it's just magic dude." The first magic trick I learned was from some guy at a grocery store when I was 8. He was working in deli and asked me if I wanted to see a magic trick. Obviously, I was like ffffff ya I'm 8. He did a coin trick. I was baffled. Then, he showed me exactly how to do it. He told me "practice that, and the next time you come back, I'll show you an even better one." I did practice tf out it. He showed a new trick, and I still remember them. I'm not sure if I would've been interested in magic if not for that guy. So.. ya when it comes to people who are genuinely interested, I have the opinion that you should show them something atleast. Like the simplest of things. Obviously everyone situation is different. There's a difference between a kid full of curiosity and a belligerent person being like "WTF DUDE???"

This is a really special video. The philosophy of giving back to the spectator and allowing yourself to be vulnerable is very counter-cultural in the magic world. I believe it is so important in the progression of the art as an amazing interaction between people as opposed to an elevated, top-down display of power. I think that this is a brilliant model for how we should behave towards each other in ordinary life, even aside from the magic sphere. Keep doing what you're doing - these advice videos are invaluable. Thank you!

Dude just discovered your channel. I studied magic somewhat seriously for a few years right out of high school and never went further than a free gig at a college. I really enjoy your channel though and this video is spot on. I do tricks still from time to time (though I'm completely rusty and don't even try a push off double anymore) and sure, I get caught every once and a while. It's just part of it, and I think any magician who is working to improve and get better needs to learn to deal with it in a professional way like you describe. I've seen too many people get caught in tricks before and just fall apart.

Dude I used to practice magic tricks like 10 years ago acknowledged in high school. After that I guess life got in the way, I stumbled across your channel a couple days ago and it has rekindled my passion for being a magician. I subscribed and went out and got me a basic bicycle deck to start going off what I used to know. Now adding all of your tutorials to my arsenal is fucking awesome. Also I never really heard of, more like didn't get into, cardistry or "flourishing" (if I'm using that correctly) and am way more interested in learning cardistry than new tricks. Already just learning some of your cardistry tutorials has added new twists to some old tricks. Keep doing what your doing bro, can't wait for the next video (even though I still have a bazillion more videos of yours to go through haha)

I'm very new to magic but I just wanted to say thanks for these vids. I successfully performed a card force for the first time the other week and the reaction was the best feeling. I've been in a terrible depression for about a year now, due to some awful stuff that happened to me. Pulling off a trick made me feel happy for the first time in a long time. Even better, it made a couple of other people forget about their problems and smile as well. As cliche as it sounds, that's the real magic. Thanks again for your awesome content.

chris, i need help, i started cadets a few weeks ago, and i showed a few tricks, it was fun but one kid spent like an hour on youtube looking at moves that we do. he knows the double, he knows card control, but doesent practise he only looked it up to know. and basically when i perform to him or someone else, and make up a story about connections or something he interrupts me and tells everyone "oh hes holding 2 cards i know that" or "yea but now its on top look. *grabs cards out of my hands and shows everyone" and whenever i perform without him involved he runs up to the group and starts shouting over me telling everyone what im doing, what should i do, cos everyone really wants to see me perform because when hes not around i absolutely fool them. pllleaaaase give advice chris, or anyone."

The others want to see your tricks and they will also think this other guy is being a dick if he is spoiling it. So just say Yeah I'll show you a trick when 'this guy' has shown you one first. After a few of those he will look an even bigger dick because he can't do a trick so they'll tell him to show a trick or shut up. I know it is all part of growing up, but he's basically being a bully and a jerk. Stand your ground.

Throw the kid in the ocean Jk 😅 Seriously man. I have never seen a person like that. No layperson eer tries to look up magic. I think the kid could become a magician in the near future. Why dont you ask him nicely to not reveal a magicians secret and make him feel like he could be a magician? I think that would help
