Look at houses built since the 1950s and compare them to those that were built before the 50s. The biggest exterior difference you can see is that the newer houses do not have a large porch where people can sit and commune together. It was not uncommon for neighbors to meet at each other's homes and sit on the porch, have a glass of iced tea or some other favorite beverage, and just have a talk. Now we have just commune with the television or streaming device.

Our house was built in 1900 and it does have a big porch with a swing and lots of seating. I’ve noticed they also built them with rain in mind. We can sit on our front porch during a storm and stay dry.

And that is the problem. Most of the sane people have a group of ten or fifteen people, at most. Little islands of sane people who aren't going to be going out looking for trouble. No matter what you do that isn't going to be enough when the psychopaths show up. They'll be led by a psychopath who doesn't care if you remove 5% of his membership as long as he gets what he wants. Little islands will fall. One by one. You need more people and stop shunning people who aren't exactly like you. You need overwhelming numerical superiority.

Reason why we quit attending Sunday morning church in a building. People are barely getting by,but put your money in the pot so the higher ups can go on cruises,vacations,etc. I don't think that's how God intended it to be.

I whole heartedly believe i need more people in my life. Problem is after 40 years of working retail i really dont like people.

I live by an extended family member,this person won't take advice from us,but wants us to do things their way all the time. Nope,I won't listen to someone who's life is a train wreck. Sometimes you get to the point that your mental and physical health is more important than trying to keep peace,so you just keep your distance.

It's normal for people to disagree on some things. I agree Travis, it's not a ɓad thing and we learn from it and move forward and build a stronger community.

So true and is young adults and high school graduates biggest problem. I live in a suburb and every young adult on my street is on a road to no where. Some didn’t graduate high school, they all do drugs and play video games. Dress n look skuzzy. Drive dangerously fast at least the ones that managed to bother to get their license.

Exactly! My daddy came home from Vietnam in 1968 and married my mom at the age of 20. I was born in 1971. He worked and took care of us until he passed away 3 years ago at age 72. Nowadays, guys the age of 25 or 30 don't have a job or have kids with different women and don't marry them. Shameful. They let the government take care of them. No one wants to take responsibility.

I have trouble getting even my republican 37 yr old husband to do any more than go to work. He works hard never turns down paid work. He does construction electrical plumbing. My toilets wiggly ,fence not finished been five years, won’t put up curtain rods or hang pictures ( I do it and they fall down) he has every horticultural excuse as to why you should let your grass grow high. Sold last house with kitchen cupboards not installed. This is the first year in a decade that he installed window ac units instead of me. I used cardboard and clear plastic. I had to b militant to nag let’s do it right and cut wood and foam to fill gap in window so can b used every yr and more efficient.

Thank you for addressing probably the most important area of prepping which is so rarely, if ever, discussed. Conflict resolution is so difficult and it's hard to know how to build those skills. Being a very emotionally reactive person myself, I know it is not good. Several years ago I found Marshall Rosenberg's Non-Violent Communication work to be helpful. They should really teach conflict resolution and Finance in our schools.

I live in a rural area. I live in a lake development style of suburb, mostly retirement environment, overall the homes are fairly spread out. The biggest problem we have here, though they are few in numbers they are the hard left leaning type of persons. They are inflexible, greedy and closed minded and so far are the only ones to threaten some sort of force or violence.

My town is almost out of water and it happened fast. Las Vegas, New Mexico, came close to burning during the Hermit's Peak/Calf Canyon wildfires. The US government admittedly burned our water basin.
