Marcos' candid comments about levels of expectations for career transitioners and academically advanced candidates opened my eyes; it was as if he was directly talking to me. I really appreciate the honesty. One major problem however is that nobody's looking for junior staff and most of the job ads are looking for senior staff, and I have to kind of sell my past experience in job interviews. Also, I was told in one interview I got for an entry level position that I would be conducting my own interviews in "6 months time" which I thought was not very promising in terms of quickly advancing in this role. Another thing is that I was offered a very low salary, completely disregarding my years of experience as a field researcher in social sciences. Academically advanced candidates are entry level yes, true, but are not entirely novice juniors. I am always open to learning and growing but disregard of your past experience was not a good feeling. Something I would recommend to other academics like me is to conduct your own projects on a freelance basis to get some exposure and UX experience under your belt before starting as an in-house researcher.
Useful with a lot of good content. To be honest though, I almost turned it off after that first interview response as I didn't immediately realize it was intentionally bad.
