I think that is the sound of a cracked or leaking exhaust manifold. They will make a terrible sound when they leak and I have seen the manifolds on these cars actually break in half on the passenger side.

No, that's a straight up exhaust leak. And not a cam, either, like Moto said... A knock would of been heavy tick tock, fast pitched.

Coming from a guy with a small block, it's not rod knock, it's a nasty exhaust leak, definitely change the oil though, the longer it sits the more it breaks down, and put some premium gas with some Lucas fuel cleaner in it and run a tank through, it'll make a world of difference

On a unibody car the floors are super important they need to pull up that carpet and take a look because they may need to do floor pans on it asap. Even if the rockers and quarters are good, if the floor is shot that will greatly weaken that car and make it unsafe. And if they cant change the floor sheetmetal themselves then they will need to find someone to fix it or find a different project.

Drained the oil and found a lot of water. Decided to rebuild the motor. Machined and dipped the whole thing. One head was cracked between the middle cylinders 4 and 6. Car runs great now. It had sat 17 years when I bought it.
