Many thanks to Felix Traub from Perfect Green in Germany - he helped us and gave us the idea and feedback that it would be useful to create a grooved front roller for the German market - and the different lawn types in Germany. With his tips and his experience of German lawns, we at Allett have designed our own grooved front roller, which is now available.

    Great vid. Do Bermuda owners need more than the blade and verticut attachments? I’ve heard using the dethatcher damages the runners. Ur thoughts?

    Hi you won’t need the dethatcher if you’re scarifying regularly The dethatcher is for lawns that are in serious disarray - it’s an aggressive scarifier used when you want to completely rip up your lawn and reseed

    Perhaps a spiral grooved roller would be the ideal compromise.

    So what's the point of selling the verticut and scarifier options which standup the grass blades only to have them smashed down by the std roller?

  • @ALLETTMOWERSUK

    Hi the grass rake has the job of lifting up the grass ahead of cutting however it doesn’t lift the grass as easy when it’s getting flattened by the smooth roller - the grooved helps immensely with this. The scarifier cartridge is designed to get rid of thatch and moss below the surface as well as leaves on the surface. The verticut cartridge is to lift lateral growth and cut rhizomes and stolons to help thicken up your lawn- used deep in the Stirling it can be used as an aggressive scarifier. The verticut cartridge performance will be much improved with the grooved roller The grooved roller is to aid cutting not scarifying- you need a front roller so you don’t need wheels and the height of cut is controlled by the front roller moving up and down.

    @@ALLETTMOWERSUK New that some time ago and looking for my engineer friend to design me a replacement for that lug bin passing as a grass basket. We here in North America have had grass catchers similar to the Sterling 51 for years, lite and easy to handle and empty. The mower my neighbors like but turned off by the grass catcher that came with my 43. The price point aside they will not buy the 43 just because of the grass catcher. Please do not tell me that the grass catcher off the 51 as an accessory will hurt the Stirling sales that model has features that the Liberty 43 will never see in it's production life. The grooved roller offered on the 43 is a start but after a number of years that the 43 has never improved design it is showing it's age but keep trying anyway.

    If you’ve got a cylinder mower you’re going to be working on getting your lawn flat and in the best condition possible to be able to use a cylinder mower.

  • @GC987

    @GC987

    Kevin, somewhat harsh and definitely not accurate. I have a sloping lawn with some undulations - not perfect but hopefully improving year on year. (I use both mowers still - as I haven't got the heart to give away/sell my old one). My lawn's not rough, but I didn't level and seed it from new either. The true difference between a cylinder mower and rotary mower is that the strip is superior and better defined with a cylinder mower. It isn't recommended that (rye) grass is cut tight (short).... in fact longer is better (within reason) during times of sparse rainfall. Of course if a lawn is no better than a rough, green paddock, then you're correct, but a half way decent family garden that's been well looked after most certainly benefits from (any) cylindrical mower. That's in no way meant to be confused with a putting green/bowling green/cricket pitch finish (there are (several) specialist machines for those. but a few modest undulations are nothing to impede an Allen.

    Basically you don’t seem to care about us with smaller gardens who paid good money for a Kensington 14 inch from your company. Seems all your recently launched modification parts and accessories don’t cater for the 14” what is it? Is that you don’t believe we would like to purchase them?
