I really wish there was affordable and solid options for us in the states. I really want to 1ton swap my suburban with little to no lift and run 37’s. I like that low big tire look.

To everyone saying “you shouldn’t count the tyres towards the lift”, please be aware that in Australia you are legally allowed to increase tyre size by 50mm or 2 inches from the size that’s recommended on the vehicle’s tyre placard. With these portal axles fitted as a second stage of manufacture (pre-registration), the standard recommended tyre size increases from 31” to 35”, which increases the clearance under the diff by an additional 2”. So the total lift on the vehicle is 6”, as stated, if you choose to run with the recommended tyre size. If you want though, you can increase your tyres to 37” with these portal axles, and still be legal.

Alas, yes, no and no regarding 37inch tyres. The second stage manufacturing (portals with 35inch tyres) has approval under federal design rules which overrides state design rules. Further modifications after vehicle registration then come under state rules … in some states but not all an increase from 35 to 37 inch tyres is considered a minor modification with automatic approval. However the increase in the height of the headlights beyond 35inch tyres (in this case) breaches another Australian Design rule … so it’s a nah on the 37inch tyres. Could you put 42inch tyres on … of course, so long as it’s included in the second state manufacturing. The only thing holding that back is the cost to prove it’s safe … it’s like the moose swerve test on steroids. Australia is a small market so second stage manufacturing is limited due to cost. The same manufacturer that did these portals also produced portals for Rangers and Hilux’s which never went beyond the concept/Prototype stage, and portals for GQ and GU Nissan patrols.

You shouldn't really count the tire when calculating "lift". That would be considered "clearance". Portal axles are sick though.

Though you can order your portals with a gear reduction at the tire if you wish, you can also maintain your stock ratio. Only mpg difference you'll experience is the extra weight. Personally don't think it'd be worth trying to calculate such a small difference (if any at all).

Why are there sealed bearings. Seems like the bearings would benefit from the lube in the housing.

Fluid technology has advanced a lot. That sealed bearing is good to go for 20 years.

The price for portals is absurd. The fact that they cant find a cheaper way to produce the product is ridiculous, and they want the customer to pay for there lack of ability to produce them for cheaper is business 101. You simply just dont do that. Even if they were 12k id buy, but over 20k?? Out of there mind and they want the customer to follow suit.
