Allah reprimanded prophet Muhammad pbuh on his little signs of irritation due to abrupt and frequent interruptions of abdullah ibn maktum. We who commits and behave untowardly daily on minor issues surely invite Allah's annoyance therefore we need to repent frequently and request his forgiveness.surely he is ghafoor ur rahim who may pardon our sins and purify our hearts.

Ashraful Islam In the Quran i didn't find anywhere Allah Subhan Wa Ta'ala mentioned the word "blind" for a physically eye blinded person. Allah always addressed people who are spiritually blind or blind from the believing as "BLIND"... also if you read the surah, Allah uses 3rd person for Abasa, and talks about the spiritually blind person who wanted to purify himself, and also talks about a person who thinks he know everything and doesn't need guidance, basically an ignorant person. So i doubt that story of the blind person to be exact

Spiritual Blind person makes sense in SURAH ABASA but we need to check the context too. By the way, thanks for the information. I also doubt story of MUSA AS which is a little different in Qur'an than what we have been taught since childhood via tafsir. SALAAMUN ALAYKUM

Dear Muslims, let us have a good assumption on Allah SWT and his Prophet (PBUH)! How would Allah describe his Beloved Messenger and the seal of his Prophets with the same description of his enemy in Surat Al-Mudathir “He frowned and scowled; then he turned back displaying his arrogance” (HQ 74:22-23) ? Please let us meet Allah SWT with sound hearts: Let us relate the story of Surat Abasa this way: It is said that once a blind man approached the one who was created devoid of harshness, and praised by his Boundless Creator with great noble character, to ask him about that which he was sent with - moral character (as he affirmed: “Verily, I was only sent to perfect moral character.”) There was with him at the time a person from amongst the disbelievers - it is said that it was either Ubay Bin Khalaf or Utbah Bin Rabiah. The Prophet (PBUH) intended for this disbeliever to be purified with Islam, and be taken out from the darkness of Shirk. However, nothing emanated from him (PBUH) except the predisposition to incline, with his whole being, towards the blind man that had approached him out of reverence of Allah (SWT). This shows the perfect moral character he was sent with, in harmony with the praise of Allah (SWT). It is inconceivable to ascribe to him other than this in the delivering of his message. Thus, it was the disbeliever who became angry, frowned in the face of the Prophet (PBUH) and turned away, as had occurred earlier with his associate in disbelief, as Allah (SWT) described thus: “He frowned and scowled; then he turned back displaying his arrogance” (HQ 74:22-23) - since frowning and turning away from the Truth are attributes of disbelievers. Following the arrival of the blind man, the disbeliever arose and turned away from having audience with the Messenger (PBUH), and left, feeling not in need of this Prophet, who prefers a blind man above himself. Yet, the Prophet (PBUH) was still tending towards him, to take him out the darkness of shirk and purify him with the light of Islam. Allah (SWT), who loves Muhammad (BBHH) would not leave the behaviour displayed by the disbeliever in the presence of His beloved, without reprimand and condemnation, and thus said, “He [the disbeliever] frowned, turned away, and left” (HQ 80:1) when the blind companion approached the Messenger (PBUH), “Because the blind man came to him [interrupting]” (HQ 80:2). The divine speech is then aimed directly towards the disbeliever, making evident to him his ignorance, and showing him that the blind man desired purification: “And what would make you see [O disbeliever], that perhaps he [the blind man] might be purified? Or seek knowledge and the knowledge would benefit him?” (HQ 80:3,4). Thereupon, the divine speech is affectionately directed towards the Prophet (PBUH): “As for he (disbeliever) who thinks himself to be self-sufficient, to him you still give attention,” (HQ 80:5,6) that is to say, “how noble your character and vast your forbearance, that you yet turn towards such a one who deems himself not in need, having concern for him; this is solely because you are the gift of mercy.” Then Allah SWT that the Prophet (PBUH), had attended to the poor blind man, and did not neglect him: “As for the one who came to you with earnest purpose, in awe of (Allah); you would renounce him? Never…” (HQ 80:8-11). This conduct is not from your temperament (O Prophet (PBUH)) that you were predisposed with: “Indeed, these verses are a reminder; so whoever wills may remember it” (HQ 80:11-12). From the book: The Remedy of Souls from Accusations Held by Muslims against the Prophet. By Sheikh Elnayyal Abu Groon. English version of the book in press.

I appreciate your lectures, thank you. Just one thing, please consider. Please look up the meaning of the word ‘harsh’….and I believe you will agree it does not apply to Allah pointing out to the prophet that he should give due importance to a poor person, in this case the blind man, as to a person of influence. A more appropriate word is needed.

The fact is that Qur’an does NOT give any evidence that the person who frowned at the blind was the Prophet (S), and does not state who is being addressed. In the above verses of Qur’an Allah (SWT) did NOT address the Prophet either by name or title (i.e. O Muhammad, or O Prophet, or O Messenger). Moreover, there exists switching in the pronoun from "he” in the first two verses to "you” in the later verses of the chapter. Allah did NOT state: "You frowned and turned away". Rather, Almighty stated: He frowned and turned away (while he was with the Prophet), (Qur’an 80:1) Because there came to him the blind man. (Qur’an 80:2) And what would make you know, but that, per chance, he (the blind man) might grow in purity, (Qur’an 80:3) Even if we assume that "you” in the third verse addresses the Prophet (S), then it is clear from the above three verses that the words "he”(the one who frowned) and "you ”address two different individuals. The following two verses support this as well: As for him who considers himself free from need (rich), (Qur’an 80:5) To him do you address yourself? (Qur’an 80:6) Thus the one who frowned was other than the Prophet himself due to distinction between "him” and "you". In Verses 80:6 Allah addresses his Prophet (S) saying that preaching arrogant members of Quraish who frown at a blind is not worthy and is not necessary to be preferred over preaching a blind, even though the blind came later. The reason is that preaching anyone who does not intend to purify himself (to the extend that he frowns at a believer) is not fruitful. Moreover, frowning is not from the manners/descriptions of the Prophet (S) even with his obvious enemies, let alone believers seeking guidance! One may question how can a Prophet (S) who was sent as a mercy to mankind be cruel when an AVERAGE believer does not in such behavior? This allegation is also in contradiction with the announcement of the sublime morals and the ethics of the Holy Prophet (S) by God himself: "And most certainly you are on sublime morality (exalted standard of character).”(Qur’an, alQalam 68:4)
