    Dawn works so well on fleas because Dawn is made to specifically break down grease and oils. Fleas have a thick oil that protects them. Dawn breaks the oil down and they drown when you are washing your animals. I would suggest watering your lawn very well when applying Dawn. I have never tried this before but I am going to try it in my backyard. It makes perfect sense

    Many years ago my sister worked for Frankodex and she told me the reason Dawn works is because fleas have an oily barrier that prevents them from drowning and the Dawn washes their protective barrier away, causing them to drown.

    It's true, Dawn kills fleas in many ways! But I have never heard of this trick, I'll be trying it this afternoon. On the Flea Traps you can use any cheap dish soap even mixed with a little water, it still works just as good! Dawn is expensive! Palmolive works fine and you can buy it for a dollar.

  • @papajoeknows8355

    @papajoeknows8355

    Yes, for the traps, the soap just breaks the surface tension of the water so the fleas sink and drown. So it doesn’t matter what kind. For this, I would use Dawn though. 👍🏻

Update: next day i was expecting the fleas to be back but I only managed to comb out 2 or 3 which is alot less than before. I would say its working. Thanks. I learned a little, too! Well, "Vets will tell you fleas are really hard to kill. (Surprise! LOL!) Two ways are most likely: Drowning or drying-out. (Apparently, another really great way for yards, cheap is diatomaceous earth.) I read that "flies" can bred in a day and lay an egg. (I know more about fleas than flies with pets, so l can tell you your dog/cat could have a dozen eggs in it's fur. We shampoo pets for fleas as well as smell, don't we! LOL!. Any shampoo is fairly effective in that it will remove or kill about the weaker fleas "first". They lay eggs even while eating! You could drown a house pets "fleas" or, by the best that your money can buy. Instead of 50% with the regular shampoo you'll get a little over 90% killing of fleas with a medicated shampoo and you can use those probably a couple of days apart, if you need to do a lot more. And, only about 2/3rds of the fleas are going to quickly die. It seems like most manufacturers say to be patient. It will take 48 hours or longer for a third of those it kills, it will take 48 hours or longer for a third of the "fleas" the shampoo kills to kill those, also. Always get the Insect Growth regulators, IRGs, Naylar or pyriproxyfen that demolish the breeding cycle for 2 to 6 months. For fleas, that just about 110%. IRG breeding cycle is different from killing new insect power! SO, GET THEM BOTH--SAME PRICE. The products are warranted for 2 to 7 months effectiveness. DON'T JUST THINK THAT YOU CAN "KILL" ALL THE FLEAS for 2 to 7 months! NO. You've got to stop those little fornicators from laying fertile eggs! (And that is easy!) LOL! Yards: Detergent great. No baking soda perimeter needed with D.E.(Diatomaceous earth.) Hope the this is useful information. Be Well.

    I saw a yt video where you put about 1 table spoon of dawn dish liquid on a dinner plate and then put water on the plate to cover just most of the plate, then swish it around with your finger, and just set them and leave on the floors everywhere. i did that and bingo, dead fleas, only about 5 but mostly gnats were floating on the plate. i had 5 inside cats at the time. down to now and no fleas anymore. i like the outside idea joe but i have two acres of lawn so i still have thoughts of how to invent a strain of grass that only grows 3 inches high and stops by i then have to worry about hit men from lawn mower companies. ah capitolism, ain't it wonderful?

    FYI: If you put the Dawn in the hose before you put the sprayer on the hose, you will not waste any of your dish soap. Also, Prell shampoo is an alternative. My vet suggested we use prell on our chihuahua to rid her of fleas. I got a plastic tote and filled it up with water, making a bubble bath with the prell, until it was just below my dog's head. She could stand up but her body still be submerged in the bath. You could see the fleas moving to the top of her head. I added a few drops of lavender oil to the water and that's all it took to rid her of fleas in one bath. Using your advice, I will spray my yard and see how that works keeping them from future issues.

    @@emeraldfox7175 initially I didn’t think it would, and after spraying it I still didn’t think it did anything. After about 4-5 days I could tell a noticeable difference. At the 2 week mark I sprayed again, and I know for sure it’s made the most difference I’ve ever had with anything else. I’ve had professionals come spray my yard once a month with their own chemicals for 6 months straight and didn’t even notice a difference. This cheap remedy worked better and faster.

    When using soap, soap has positive and negative ends. That means it can weaken the protection of any coat that relies on positive negative ends. We call any such thing hydrophilic. However, soap also has non positive and non negative ends. We call this hydrophobic. That means it can break down anything with a hydrophobic coat as well. All things must either be hydrophobic, hydrophilic, or both. Hydrophobic things break hydrophobic things. Hydrophilic things break down hydrophilic things. Therefore, since soap has both, it breaks down both. Dawn, and many other dishwashing soaps are very strong hydrophobic and hydrophilic substances. Therefore, they work very well. I've only used it for baths, but I imagine it should work on the yard if you can spread it far enough.
