Get Perfect Table Saw Cuts with Micro Fine Contractor Table Saw Alignment. Contractor PALS

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I have noticed some serious burn marks on my work pieces after running them over the table saw. Something must be pinched and today I will show you #WWTD, What Would Tyler Do, to Get Perfect Table Saw Cuts with Micro Fine Contractor Table Saw Alignment. I am going to use a pair of small micro adjust tools called PALS from In-LineIndustries to help easily tune my Delta contractor style table saw and hold it in place. I have had these PALS on my saw for about 3 years now and this is the first time I have had to adjust since I installed them.

One low-tech tip I've used for years to check how far 'out' the blade is from the miter slot, is to take a perfect straight-edge with parallel edges, that is as long or longer than the table front to back, and set that against 2 teeth leaning in the same direction (1 on the leading, 1 on the trailing edge of the blade), then use a caliper micrometer to measure between the straight edge and the slot, one measurement all the way to the front, the other all the way to the back. This method multiplies the error from the blade's 10" diameter, to the full length of the table. The straight edge I use is one piece from one of those extruded aluminum rip cutting guides where 2 pieces are joined into an 8' 3" one. It is perfectly straight, and the sides are perfectly parallel. But any such piece of aluminum or steel bar, such as a metal yardstick, etc., would do. To make sure I'm not referencing off of a damaged tooth, I advance the blade one tooth at a time for a few teeth and re-check, making sure no gap appears.

Great video. Wish I saw this years ago. I am so surprised you don't have a SawStop or Harvey, or Powermatic saw by now. Your channels been running long enough, you should have two new houses, building your 2nd. dream shop, and extended your shop to have a full metal shop just to the left of it. But seriously... Great video. Thank you for your hard work.

Now if somebody would just make a riving knife kit for contractor saws. I've 20 year old Delta that works fine but doesn't have a riving knife, kits didn't work and the factory splitter isn't a viable riving knife. Thank you for this video, beats a hammer and wood.

Great tip for the PALS add-on. I have almost the identical Delta saw and the PALS saves a bunch of setup time. I also have the Unifence, like yours and want to point out one item: That rip fence extrusion is flippable (can be used on the opposite side of main fence base), so you need to be careful when doing any bevel rips, IF your fence is out by 3 thou, and now you are binding the blade. As far as DC is concerned, I found a great template for the rear of that Delta saw on Dan Pattinson's site (DP shop talk?) It only work for non bevel cuts but does a great job for regular rips.

Thank you Tyler for , showing how to "shore up" the table saw blade. My Craftsman is also out of alignment so, now I'm going to get a hold of those brackets myself. Tyler, what would you do to build a , multi level , short drill press station on wheels?

Not sure why you put the run out on the blade and not the fence? I was always under the assumption that you wanted the blade parallel to the miter gauge slot for perfect 90’s and have the run out at the end of the rip fence.

Tyler, great video! Two questions I have; # 1 - I’m new to KZread I’ve made two videos, and in over a month I only have 100 viewers😢 when I see people with thousands I’m not sure how to make that happen. # 2 - i’m using my phone to make videos which I just recently found out, will not pause during recording, and it seems like it takes hours to edit and post to KZread. WHAT WOULD TYLER DO? Again, great video appreciate any help you can offer. Thank you again.

I've been working on Dust collection on my contractor saw. Do you find that opening you made in the back is enough? I have it closed in more, but I can't tilt the blade this way. I'm going to hook up a 2hp harbor freight collector.

I put thoswe on my old craftsman saw, about 20 years ago. they work great. howver in my case, the castings were so far out, that the saw had to be completly disassmbled and the trunion mounting holes had to be enlarged, to allow the devices room to move the truninion/blade to be true to square.

When I first tuned this saw I also had to drill out the trunions. You would think that would be simple enough for the OEM to get that right!

I have been struggling to get my Delta contractors saw properly aligned. The PALS may be the answer I have been looking for. Do you need to loosen one of the front trunion bolts when making the adjustments or is the entire process carried out on just the rear trunion? These things should be a standard feature on contractors saws. Thanks for an eye opening video.
