I think its great that your channel talks about luxury but reminds people of the processes you have to go through to put your self in a position to acquire them without going into debt
I wish this sort of stuff was taught in school. I have no idea how loans work or what interest even is!?!?

You tend to figure it out in college, but it's risky b/c you don't know what you're doing until something goes wrong. Really hard to fix sometimes.

I am in this EXACT situation. This video has honestly saved my life today and has helped me to not feel so alone. Thank you SO much for being candid.
love this lady. She's beautiful, genuine and honest and her advice is very great.
Great advice! My daughter is 16 and I'm beginning to have conversations about saving money, credit and debt prevention. I don't want her to make the same mistakes. Financial stress can be overwhelming.
I remember watching this video a few years ago wanting to cry with debt up to my eyeballs . I was also working a terrible job and wasn’t able to pay off my debt till Covid became a thing and I was able to finally get a more stable income. Thank you so much Sophie for these types of advice videos x
My story! Debt I incurred from university - and trying to pay it off after was TOUGH!! I talk about luxury on this channel, but I like to keep it real every so often, by talking about savings, careers and debt ... after all, it's these routes that effect our ability to buy this stuff! I hope this helps, and to anyone reading this - don't let it get you down. It's just numbers at the end of the day :) xx
I watched this video last December and because of your videos I paid my credit and store cards off in October. Thank you for addressing it and making me realise that isn't something I should address and not alone about. I feel so relieved now and I will never be so stupid to do it again. Thanks so much Sophie x

I’m so happy for you Alison! 🙌🏽 My god, it’s a weight off once you’re debt free! 😅 Very happy to hear this video was a comfort, I felt alone with it myself because I’d either get a lecture or be made to feel ashamed. So I thought sharing my experiences might help others who are where I was back then. Good for you and here’s to a prosperous 2020!🥳🥳xxx

thanks sophie!! I'm halfway thru my degree and drowning in debt. it's very comforting to know that a successful woman such as yourself has been in the same situation and also managed to deal with it! love you xx
Thank you for caring so much about your viewers. You provide a lot of solid advice. Keep it up ☺️
Great advice Sophie. I think personal finance, budgeting etc is something that should be taught in secondary/senior school. I got into debt on a credit card and with my current account when I moved to London many years ago. It took me a couple of years to get myself out of it but I'm glad I did. Now I'm the total opposite and I save like there is no tomorrow but this enables me to buy luxury items for myself and nice things for my home.
College years did the same thing to me! Thank you for talking about it! I love your channel so much!
Great advice! I got into terrible debt and I used the spreadsheet method to work on paying it off. So glad it's over. Looking at your debt can be a difficult experience, but once you tackle it you will be set free x
Sophie, thanks so much for doing this video! I love your videos, and I think it's great that you share your story and real advice.
I really love how honest you are because it needs to happen. I was in a situation like that back when I worked at my old job, switched all cards and paid most of it off. Reached out to my mate and he helped me manage my money and now im debt free. This is a great video I think more people in this situation need to see
You are officially one of my favorites now. Thank you for your honesty.
Hello Sophie, I've just watched your video and instantly subscribed 😊While I'm now looking forward to looking through all your luxury item videos, I think this was such a responsible video to publish. There are a number of younger viewers who will potentially watch luxury videos on designer purchases and try to emulate the lifestyles of the people they're watching (actually- who am I kidding, I'm 40 and would kill for your handbag collection!) I guess we can all get caught up in the world of wanting and feeling like we deserve to treat ourselves to lovely things (been there!!) so by having you share your own story of how easy it is to go down a slippery slope ( all starting by wanting a crayon and mug set!) it may raise the awareness of how easy it can be.Thank you for sharing xx
Great advice Sophie. I think that people find it really helpful to know that they're not the only ones & even though the money still has to be paid off, just re-negotiating with the bank on lower interest charges makes people feel like a tonne has been lifted from their shoulders & they feel more pro-active. xx
Sophie, I fell into debt the same way as you - overspending at uni with a 2k Natwest overdraft! The rest follows! I really enjoy your advice videos. Please post more stuff like this giving us your practical insights into self-employment, finance, and beauty.
I'm 17 years old & off to uni next year in Sep! This video has been very helpful and definitely has made me become more cautious about how I will pay off my uni debt as well as the importance of savings! Thanks Soph xx
Best KZreadr ever!always giving solid advice. thanks Sophie
I'm so glad you covered this! I'm not in debt personally.. however if ever in the future this would be extremely helpful! Love you Sophie!! Love Grace from Australia xo
I started my kids with educational plan at such early age and my eldest daughter will be in college in 2 years and we are paying this plan for 16 years and for us it's the greatest investment ever to help my kids avoid debt when they go to college. The plan could cover 4 years University course tuition fee.
I am so impressed by this presentation. Thank you, I needed this.
I really enjoy hearing you speak!. I've been working on this situation for awhile now, thanks for the encouragement!.
Really interesting topic and we need to discuss this more.thanks Sophie

sophie you motive me every time i see ur video ! you worked very hard to get where youre at now ! hopefully ill be there too ! xxxxx
This is all great advice, I'm glad I'm not the only one with spreadsheets to keep track of my money! Another backwards-ish way to get the stress of credit cards and other debt off your mind are consolidation loans, they often come in at under 10% APR and will get all the credit cards off your back in one go! You obviously need a reasonable credit score for these but if you've been paying the minimum on credit cards and other direct debits it shouldn't be a problem. :) Just started watching your videos and I'm hooked!
I love this video, it's fab! You're so right I also got into debt starting with the students accounts and overdraft then credit cards, and boy does it take a long time to get a hold on it. Unfortunately I'm still saddled with my Barclaycard because I have horrible health issues so I don't work steadily but I'll keep trying for sure. Thanks for sharing we don't talk about this stuff enough especially when we're younger!✌🏾️🤗🤓👍🏾❣
Hi Sophie! I commend you for your summary about how you need to still be responsible before considering a luxury purchase--it's not brought up very often, Sri thank you! 👍 😊
Love your videos and how honest and sincere they are!
Hi Sophie, I have never commented on any video, but I have enjoyed this series of videos. I have definitely been able to relate to your debt story, very similar to mine experience. Great video! X
Hi Sophie, thank you dearly for these VERY helpful videos! This and the savings video have helped me a lot and I've put things up on eBay to sell and I'm getting on top of my debts... and even mentally, I'm doing well because I'm not stressing as much. I've got goals I need to smash (pay off my debts) and I'm getting there. :) It's much appreciated x
these are all great tips and I hope they help someone to 1) get out of debt and 2) give enough insight to NOT get into debt. I myself have no other debt but my mortgage, but I am scared for my daughter for when she grows up and goes to uni. We are lucky to live in a big city with many program choices, so I intend to keep her home and I am saving like crazy for her education since was was a newborn. In Canada we are lucky to have RESPs... Anyway, it is nice to have a break from viewing luxury bags reveals and get a glimpse of a different side. Thanks for this video Sophie! p.s. your bags are wonderful :))
Being a student in London unfortunate enough to have started after tuition rose to £9000 a year, plus having to take out the largest maintenace loan possible as London is so bloody expensive I do worry a lot about whats going to happen after. However, I find it inspiring to hear your story and how you got out of debt and you seem to be very successful now. Thanks for sharing x
I love your videos and your advice !! I listen to your videos almost everyday first thing at my desk because it gives me so much motivation!! :) thank you for being so open about this topic and to share with us the successes but also the struggles in the way and how you overcame all of it because it really shows a different perspective in life, a winner's perspective! :D XO
Going uni in a few months so this should come in handy! Thanks for the tips

I get my annual increase here in the next month. While it isn't a whole lot of money, I think I will use the large majority and do this so I can get bills paid off. 2% of it I am putting in to my 401k to start saving for retirement.

What an amazing Video Thank you very much for your tips!
Great advice Sophie!
I like how you said 2 grand over draft, that’s a nice way to put it and a different perspective to see Credit Card balances in.
Good tips, I think also a debt snowball is a good option too.
You have such a likeable personalty..xx
To be honest with you I feel in the same way, I finished my university a year ago and is so hard to find a job and pay back the loan. Thanks for this video!!! Xo
A really important topic. Thank you!
love your videos always look forward to them yay
Great video! I really like that you talk about these things in addition to the luxury goods that you have, because it's really important! :) When I got out of college/university I did the same thing as you with creating an excel spreadsheet & tracking where all my money is currently with the APR %, and then I could plan how to pay it off each month. I'd pay the minimum on everything, and then dump as much as I could additionally onto the one with the highest APR. I continued this process till all my debts were paid off! I now continue with this method to track my savings & investments. I think it's great to know how much and where your money is & where it's going. I personally didn't take out 0% interest credit cards because my credit history/score wasn't good enough for me to qualify for them, but also the 0% expires & I was scared of if/when it did, the interest would be even higher than what I was paying (basically I just wasn't comfortable with that method, even tho I agree it can work). I also agree with other commenters that personal finance should be taught in school & its ridiculous that it's not! Even the way my parents saved & spent money is completely different from how I do, mainly because they had a pension just for working a certain number of years & I have a 401k where I have to save it all on my own to pay for my retirement. Love watching your videos & your advice!
I just have a overdraft (about a quarter of what you had) and I just need to shake it... gonna do an excel spreadsheet nowww thank xx
Hi I loved your advice. It was so very helpful. BTW would love to know the lipstick shade that you are wearing:)
Excel spreadsheer with APR is such a good idea. doing it now. did a balance transfer a few weeks ago. avoid paying any type of interest is my tip!! x
Thank you! It is nice that you talk about both ends and I needed that video today🌞

+Sophie K Grad school is a more specialized degree in a certain field. We have a Bachelors in Business but most places want a Masters in Business Administration. I work in HR for healthcare, so we prefer those with either years of experience or a Masters (graduate degree) in HR or Healthcare Administration. The grad degree gives more years of experience when job hunting. Many certifications for different fields give credit for degrees as well. I am going to test for one this year that only required a year of work experience with a Masters degree where with a Bachelors requires 4 years of work experience.
thanks Sophie. that was brilliant.
Banks are quick to hand out credit and as soon as you apply for a mortgage the thing the go after is your consumer debt. Heavy consumer debt will stand in your way of getting a mortgage. Even if you don't want a mortgage now, the interest you pay is insane.....it will kill you if you don't get it under control. Every application or credit inquiry you make shows up on your credit score and counts against you when you want to buy a house. Rant over. Excellent video Sophie. It is truly a public service.
Luckily, I'm 21 and recently graduated from college with no debt except my student loans, but being in debt terrifies me because I watched my mom struggle and file for bankruptcy a couple of years ago. It's such an easy spiral to fall down :/

I have a credit card... I lived without one till I was 34... so was doing well there... I keep the card separate from my wallet and use it for my carshare ONLY. Keeping it away from everyday purchases and having to consider my budget ahead of time means I am never overdrawn.
Great advice, I tend to not get loans as I feel if I can't afford it don't do it although I'm trying to teach my kids this it is definately a different world now.xxx
Another thing that had helped me, is to pay the smaller credit cards off first. Knock those ones out of the way. Then focused on the bigger balances on the other credit cards. Lesson I learned is to not max your cards out haha. Work on building your credit by spending up to half of the credit limit, and stopping there. Pay that half amount off when you can and so forth.
A free credit checker is noddle, you get a monthly update with them and no subscription cost
ty for your advice, it wasn't tedious in the least.
great tips, Thanks for sharing.
Great advice!
Schools need to teach this. Being banking savvy is for EVERYONE.
This is a very important topic. It is incredibly easy to get into debt and incredibly hard to get out of it. There are free credit score websites that feed from equifax and callcredit - noddle (callcredit) , clearscore (equifax). There are quite useful as they display the basic info, so we can spot any problems. Dont think that experian has one though.
Just to let you know, your video from 3 weeks ago about what you want to buy in 2016; the balmain blazer you're wanting pretty little thing have one exact same for £35 if you're wanting to test the style before buying !!!!!

Maybe go to a school in your home country and do a semester abroad. Or if it's more about travelling than actually getting a degree abroad, get a student work visa and do seasonal jobs in another country over school breaks. Such a good video!👌
Just found your channel must say your really articulate and lovely. New sub here 😀
If you can't transfer balances, you can try to get a lower interest loan from your bank/credit union. I did that with my credit cards - the interest rate was less than half of what I had on my cards. Also keep in mind that when you start paying things off and your credit score gets better, you'll get bombarded with credit card offers. If you feel you have a shopping addiction or an issue with impulse control, then it's critical you get help with that or you'll end up at square one.
There is a debt charity called step change, they are amazing. Give them a call they go through all you income and out goings. They can help talk to creditors, set up lower payments etc. When calling make sure you have about 20 minutes free as they go through a lot.
Great video 😊 thank you
Experian now give you the option to save your statement as a PDF so i usually apply.. save the PDF then cancel same day. Then I've got the PDF to refer back to :)
Love this video!!! :)
Very helpful,thanks 👏
When I was 18 my parents told me to get a credit card so that I could build a credit rating. In retrospect, I really think that's a terrible idea. I think you should wait until you are at least 20 to get a credit card because you're right, you're still a kid when you start uni! Great video Sophie =) Also, where did you get that shirt? It's fantastic!
please give more tips about how to ask for bonuses and a raise, I'm really scared of doing it even though I have proof that I do an excellent job
I got stuck in some debt after college and THANK GOD I got a job after college that helped with student loans. In the US, some government jobs and state jobs, i.e. teaching, have student loan forgiveness programs.
I started following Dave Ramsey and paid the smallest to the largest credit cards. From the moment I paid off the first one, I felt a big weight removed from my shoulders. It was really enjoyable letting go of credit cards and putting that money into savings. I only have one left. I guess making a realistic budget and remembering your are a slave to debtors which keeps you from taking career and life challenges until you get out of debt.
Really like your channel!
I feel like this works if you aren't a typical American college grad who has over $30K of college debt (most people I know have way more). My main thing is paying off all my credit card debt first because it's just a given that everyone is gonna be paying off their college debt for the next 50+ years of their life.
