@snowbird - Exactly. He is only the "pro tem" mayor, which means he is only holding the position of mayor until the next election. He probably was the previous vice mayor, or a city council member they appointed to fill the mayoral role after being vacated. But I am sure that he is campaigning and going to run to fill the seat on a more permanent basis, and the local constituent absolutely needs to see what this man thinks about the civil rights of civilians in his town.

@artist - if I remember correctly, there was a memo sent out by Department Of Homeland Security a few years ago to all the police stations and post offices. I would be terribly surprised if they haven't sent the same memo to the executive branch departments for the various city and county governments as well. Of course I'm also sure nobody actually paid any attention to what the memo said about respecting the First Amendment rights of civilians in public spaces, but I'm almost certain they HAVE received a memo about it.

So sad that a person exercising their 1st amendment rights is treated as an enemy. 🙄

I've been saying a similar thing to your suggestion but aimed at police. Upon doing a traffic stop the first thing they must say is why. Funny thing, California actually put this into effect this year. :P

I recently viewed videos of Jack McLamb. His story of the questions he received from the old man sleeping in his audience was devastating powerful. “Did you take an oath? What was in it? You know the law? What is the (any 1 thru 10) amendment to the constitution? How can you protect my rights and liberties mentioned in your oath if you don’t even know what they are?” We should all hand out The Bill of Rights to everyone.
