I’m starting the position for APM in summer and so excited. I already have degree in business admin and graduating with software engineering degree in few months.

Currently, i act as a liaison between business and product teams. More like a program management. What are the chances that I get into product management ?

Question: I'm expected to graduate college end of next year and will have 3 product management internships completed. While I have received return offers from 2 of them, I want to apply to FAANG PM positions (all my experience is in mid-tier and just wanted to try something new). Should I be applying to the APM programs or regular PM positions? I will eventually apply to both but would like to know which one to focus on. I know most of the regular PM positions require at least 3 years of industry experience and I didn't know if I could classify my 3 PM internships as equivalent to 1-2 years of industry experience.

I applied to an RPM program for a company I’m currently working for (as a non product manager)! I’ll give an update once I get in! Super excited and hoping I pass the assessment and get the final interview!

Are the APM programs only for college grads? Can experienced software engineers apply who have no prior experience in Product?

Hey Remya! Generally, APM programs are for fresh grads or professionals with a few years of experience. But to learn more about how you as an experienced software engineer can switch to product, check out our blog post: blog.tryexponent.com/transition-software-to-product/ Hope this helps!

Hi @tryexponent, I completed my MBA in 2021 and currently work as a Business Analyst. However, most companies listed here are looking for undergraduates or recent graduates. Can I still apply?

  • @tryexponent

Hey og_LionKingGaming! It depends on the company. Some APM programs require you to have less than a year of specifically "PM" experience. In this case, you would qualify since you do not have PM experience. Hope this helps!

Hi, I have around 1.5 years of experience as an APM with my current employer. Will I be eligible to apply for such programs?

  • @tryexponent

Hey Tejal! Google's APM program accepts candidates with up to 2 years of PM experience so you are still eligible. However, do check the job portals of the specific company or companies you are interested in because the eligibility requirements may vary.
