Inheriting the DNA of the much-loved CDJ-2000, the CDJ-2000 Nexus has evolved beyond DJs' wildest dreams. DJs can prepare amazing sets and playlists using the included Pioneer rekordbox software or download the new rekordbox app to access the same features on their iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, Android smartphones or tablets. Music can then be loaded onto the CDJ-2000nexus via USB or, new for the CDJ-2000Nexus, Wi-Fi*.
The CDJ2000 Nexus opens up a new realm of possibilities during performance, with the addition of four-deck rekordbox Beat Sync. Dedicated controls for Master and Sync let you choose which new songs are automatically beat-matched to the master deck. DJs can now focus on taking their performance to new heights through their mastery of loops, cues and new live edit functions, all perfectly in sync.
"Finally true quantization comes to hardware users, opening up possibilities for those who want to retain traditional DJing methods but with the advantages of technology," James Zabiela.
The hugely popular Slip Mode is an essential performance tool that takes the risk out of using remix functions such as loop, scratch and reverse. DJs can create live edits while Slip Mode keeps the music playing muted in the background, bringing it back in when the edit is finished. Another new feature is Active Loop; DJs can use rekordbox to set automatic loops in any track. So DJs can extend part of a track, never miss a trick, or prolong the end of a song so the music never runs out unexpectedly.
Pioneer has also added new Quantize functions. So as well as snapping all cue and loop points to the rekordbox beat grid, Hot Cues and Hot Loops can now be triggered in perfect time with the music. A dedicated Quantize button makes it easy to switch between 'free' or 'quantized' playback, giving DJs the choice to express themselves in the best way for each performance. Automatic recall of Hot Cues and Hot Loops makes the whole creative process even more fluid.
The CDJ-2000nexus makes mixing in-key effortless. Tracks are analysed by rekordbox and the CDJ-2000 nexus browser incorporates a simple traffic light system that shows you which songs will mix well with the master deck. This works hand in hand with Master Tempo, which changes the music speed without altering its pitch. DJs will notice a significant improvement in quality and it now works without artefacts up to 16%.
The large, full-colour screen now features rekordbox Wave Display and Wave Zoom to provide a much better view of the music, and lets DJs edit beat grids directly on the players. Browsing music is even more intuitive, with the option to view tracks in list, artwork or customisable formats. The screen shows a host of mixing tools that can be pre-set in rekordbox, such as Beat Countdown and Phase Meter.
The CDJ-2000nexus retains all the popular features of the CDJ-2000, such as the 206mm jog wheel and the ability to edit playlists on the fly. And, naturally for Pioneer professional products, the highest possible sound quality and robust build come as standard.

A lot of DJs (and wannabes?) on here thinking beatmatching is the best skill of a DJ. I love my Technics and Vinyl and will never let them go but in a performance environment, giving the crowd the best you have is far more important than just running 2 tracks on beat using your ear. Anyone can learn to beatmatch, not everyone can rock crowds night after night...

Rob Anderson thank you, this was very detailed and helpful. A question though: is there a way to see the tracks that have been played so as not to play them again ? In the software they get coloured after being played, what about the cdjs ?

Top guy always informative videos just purchased x2 cdj2000 nexus..djm2000 nexus and the pioneer sdjo8 speakers and gotta say WOW!! Loving the slip mode for loops and the efx on the mixer is just too good, i know its expensive but well worth the outlay
i have a gig using these soon but am not that familiar with them, just want to know if you have analyzed your tracks with rekord box on a pc at home and them put them on a usb and put it in the mixer at the venue will the analysed info still be there?

The sync feature really shines when using more than two CDJ's where then you can create crazy builds and vocals over beats. It takes a DJ and makes him/her an artist and performer when mixing 4 CDJ's But remember, in order for this sync function to work properly, you really have to work ALLLLLL your music's beat grid and that can be the biggest pain in the &^* ever, but fun. Also, sometimes your beats are off when qued so you have to beat match a little anyway even with the sync enabled.

when going 2 a gig/ and using ur flashdrives/ do u have 2 have recordbox/ or can u just go on set and plug in the usb and will the cdjs play the trax/ cuz at my house I use 2 12s and dennons 3900s/ and on the dennons it has a program that holds ur trax called ddj music manger/ but I need 2 no this cuz I had the cdj 1000mk2 but sold them4 the dennons cuz I could put my trax on usb/ and the old cdjs didn't have that,
How do you get the bar indicator to pop up if it doesnt automatically
with the laptop you analyze your tracks and can use the sync function or the quantize. i think it also works on the iphone

Noob question,,, If i have my cue points/hot cues all saved on my usb using the cdj 2000 nexus and then use the same usb on a pair of cdj 2000's will all the cue points be there? or will i have to have record box for them to show?

what i mean is I know that we can use the rekordbox application on our computer to analyze our songs but would we need the laptop with us LIVE and hook up the cdjs to the laptop in order to play with sync, waveform, quantize, etc. or is all the information on the flash drive
of course they can. Laidback Luke for instance uses the sync function to combine even more tracks live! so awesome this guy :)

I agree, beatmatching, while imperative to know, is old hat. If I do not have to waste the time getting my tracks matched, it frees me up to be more creative with my mixing. From what I have seen, most sync haters either spin vinyl, or believe they are some purist and are better than everyone else. Innovation. It is a hell of a thing.

I'm sure they thought of all these new Nexus features way before, who knows if the 2000 Nexus was even completely functional even before the 2000 was released...? But hey, as a company you just always need to make people longing for more. Can't blame them, it's working!

How do you get the grid to work
It's not about beat matching anymore, that's 101, it's now about taking things to the next level, adding a level of creativity that wasn't there before. Look at what the top DJ's are doing now, it's so far beyond beat matching, that's history.
i'm not keen on the sync button for new dj's, i personally think new dj's need to go and buya set of techies and actually learn how to mix. but for us dj's that earnt our "wings" in mixing. the sync button is awesome. it gives us a chance to concentrate on the mix and show off some effecty skills. i own 1000 mk3s, so i still mix, but if i had these id use the sync
Very interesting. I have one burning question. What about incoming phonecalls if your Iphone is connected? Does that interupt your playing music or are the calls automatically blocked or redirected to voicemail?

Yeah Im glad i waited for the nexus now.I was debating the cdj 2000's or gemini 700 and i knew they were coming out with a full lcd screeen so i waited. I guess it payed off, Im getting 2000 nxs next month.
Did RekordBox not transfer the artwork over
What type of laptop are you talking about that can't mix 4 decks at once? Must be a super old low end one... like a net book... I would be more worried about the thumb drive having issues over time then a hard drive. Flash memory is still unstable.

I am debating getting rid of 2000's and picking up a set of these. Love the new features but is it worth spending the extra money on them?
you say the nexus is linked to a regular cdj-2000, since when is this possible? a colleague told me this wasn't possible, was he misinformed at that time or has there been an upgrade?
Does it have to be a Nexus mixer for the jog wheel light to work? or does the DJM 850 work with that to?

It will work fine on the DJM 850, it's called fader start. However, you need to make sure the 3.5mm cables are plugged into both the players and mixer.
Really just does what could have been done with the old with a major firmware upgrade
Do these play Divx?
Key would be cool to have. But looking at how the x-pad on the DJM 900 covers for the slip roll on the deck, beatmatching isn't that hard to do regardless if you use something like ableton or not, and emergency loop doesn't matter a whole lot if you won't touch your usb or sd card to disconnect it. Settings don't bother me. Cues loading are cool I guess. All in all 2000s are cheaper and not that much more difficult to use, if any more difficult.
I'm working O.T. to get mine. gots to have it. I get tired of carring my laptop with me good job pioneer

i dont if you mix but i started with sync and i refuse to use it now because i find i can feel the music much more if I'm beatmatching, if you can beatmatch u don't want a sync button

Absalutly unnessasary update that would cost a lot of money. I will keep my 2000's maybe even will buy a few more because people are trying sell them now very cheap just to get a new model
I don't think so, personally. I love beatmatching and counting as much as the next guy, but this could open up a world of 3-4 decks playing together. Richie Hawtin is a great example.
I currently practise at home with a DDJ-SX mixer which is a Pioneer product geared for use with laptop and Serato software. I am looking to commence playing in clubs in the future and assume most, if not all clubs will have either the CDJ2000 or the Nexus (Hopefully!). I would likely bring my music to the club via USB. Q1. Are both CDJ 2000 models compatible with AIFF music files, or am I better off bringing WAV files on my USB to be certain of compatibility? Q2. I note only 3 Hotcue buttons on the CDJ 2000/Nexus, where I am used to 8 on the DDJ-SX. It sounds very obvious I know, but does this mean there is only ready access to 3 hotcue points for each track, or is there access to more cuepoints in other ways? Cheers

AIFF is good to go, it carries ID3 tag information better than .wav files. The 3 hotcues thing sucks ass for controllerists; I'm a Serato fanboy as well. Solution is the DDJ-SP1. Best of both worlds!

Just been on decks .co .uk and saw the price, seems like the ppl who can afford this new tech are already capable of what this new tech 'assists' with. I can't see many bedroom DJ's shelling out £5.999 for the setup when their is a good chance that if they became DJ's Full time, that not every club would have the latest tech installed :S (unless they bring their own decks which would be dumb as they wud be as well as having a flight case off records surely?) are we moving forward or back here?
now, being a good DJ has a price on it!
One of these days somebody is going to build a beast of a DJ computer that does everything, containing all necessary DJ software and hardware, big soundcards, USB hub etc.. and connecting to music servers. It could be installed in clubs and DJ's can plug there own hardware into it. Could replace CDjs and mixer.

Glimm3rz You need to make a Kuvo account in order to use Rekordbox, that's it. Rekordbox will guide you through the process of making an account when you first boot up the program.
They should make the screen a touch pad. Then allow effects to be controlled on it like an xy pad or a lemur.

i am using denon gear and thinking about this one, i know whole dj equipment is different. i understand some features to help djs but do not make him just " button pusher". if you are experienced you will play on sh.. gear too but some djs follow automatic functions and can not play with ears, just follow gadgets.my opinion,which direction djing is going to now??

Matter of taste in DJing. I for one like having a kitpiece that looks like it's one entire package. Pioneer has that and I'd happily pay for that. Shame I don't have the money for it now though. :P Thing with DJing these days is that gear doesn't matter shit, just do what you do with what you got.
It's not about DJing anymore, it's about producing and knowing which tracks to play in what order in front of the type of crowd.

I know this is a billion years later but technically best matching is a skill. I still find it useful in situations where I have to cue into another system like Traktor running through the same board. It doesn't happen often but it does happen.

After watching how cdjs fails to render plain wav file on screen without Rekordbox database, it's obvious that it was done on purpose. Either staying with NI Traktor or considering Denon (just personal opinion)
I might have been a little harsh when stating that the days of real DJ's spinning are over because there are still a lot of dj's that spin vinyl and the true art of turntablism still exist.

It looks a bit like Pioneer are leaving us in the lurch by not implementing a lot of these new features through the software of the CDJ 2000. I expected when I purchased the 2000s that features like emergency loop would have been implemented through firmware updates. A pair of Pioneer decks should be a long term and safe investment.

Why is everyone going on about sync? This is the same thing peps where saying when the first gen came out about scratching n not having to worry about the needles jumping n stuff. I'v had a go on a demo one and think its build well and the features are amazing dont judge until you've had a go. Dont like sync? dont use it?

Future of dj-ing at least for House , electro and EDM is creative live remixing. Some things are automated to allow you more creative freedom for others. If you can't adapt get over it.
