Ever wonder the layers a woman in mourning would wear? Wonder no more! Mary Fanthorp lost both her parents in autumn of 1867, just days apart from one another. Today is the funeral and she dresses in deep mourning for the occasion. From chemise, drawers, footwear, hoops, dress, and accessories, watch Mary as she dresses herself for the day.

The real tragedies of this and earlier eras were that people often lost their entire family to something that can be easily treated today 😢

Oh yes. Yellow fever was big in Texas and across the south and took whole families during the summers it raged.

Thank you!
I’m just seeing a lizard woman from the dawn of time in Doctor Who cosplay instruction. Because Vastra is always going to be a favorite of mine.

I remember that character! It does look similar, doesn't it! I haven't watched Doctor Who in several years-I need to go back and rewatch it.
What look would be an 1890s veil?

1890s is out of my scope of study but I do own an original 1880s mourning bonnet and veil. I show it a bit in this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/i4ONyKlrctzFgdI.html. The veil is shorter than my 1860s veil I made based on period descriptions. An 1890s mourning veil would be closer to the 1880s one than the one I'm wearing here. Thanks for watching!
can you an video get dressed in the donner party clothing please

I can do a late 1850s getting dressed video but it won't be for a while because all my 1840s clothing is packed away. The closest thing I have out right now is getting dressed in the early 1850s during winter, which is fairly close to what the Donner party would have been wearing: kzread.info/dash/bejne/m6mDrK2RYrfglcY.html. Hope this helps!
