I used to watch these guys on tv every week. What a great show they had!
This is great, I never saw it. It was a couple years before my time (1975 :) ) but I still got to listen to this, as some relatives liked oldies. I always did too! What I do wonder, why do the singers almost NOT utter the word 'job'??
At the time I couldn’t stand this music. (Along with Disco and Opera) I remember they had a show on tv and id be like sigh…… But watching them now some fifties years later I can appreciate the talent they brought to the stage and pull off a performance like this. Thanks for the upload MS.

Because you finally turned adult. I did love this even as a kid. Late in your case, but good for you now
Growing up we all wanted to be Bowser. I still love that Sha Na Na woodstock performance.
I had no idea that Billy Crystal was in Sha Na Na.

Yeah, he was great in Sha Na Na, before he became Adam Ant.

I think he looks more like the killer Scorpio in the first “Dirty Harry” movie.
Great tv. Nothing compares today
These guys had a great manager. They played Woodstock in 1969! Then perfect timing when the 50s became in vogue in 1973 (American Graffiti movie and Happy Days TV series) which led to the Sha Na Na syndicated TV series.
My Dad and I loved these guys when I was a kid.
I ❤ these guys. Watched their show every week. Johnny was my fave ❤❤
Loaded with great vocalists.
I've always loved Sha Na Na. I still love these guys.
I love watching this TV show.I Love Jocko from Sha Na NA Billy Crystal from Sha Na NA.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I like the sax solo at 1:35. But it’s funny how each band member, when he has a solo, gets the center Mic. I think this was more common back then. At 1:53 he starts to sing and he’s actually very good. I think maybe this band had more talent than recognized probably because people saw them only as a 50s novelty act perhaps. It’s not exactly my cup of tea but I think they’re very good. One other thing I noticed: they have a great separation of singing types. I can hear tenors and baritones and maybe even a bass singer. It’s truly as if their voices ARE musical instruments.
Awesome performance! That sax solo was fantastic! Life would be a dream if we could go back in time. Happy Cinco de Mayo! 🥃 Happy Sunday 🕊 thank you for sharing! 💖
These guys were always fun to listen to!
I'm so used to the fast paced version from Woodstock. To think this was one of the first "tribute bands". Good upload!

It’s hard for me to imagine this band was at ‘69 Woodstock 🤯!!
Just imagine, if a group like this came out now they'd be preforming songs from the early 2000s

When I was a kid this is one of the coolest things ever to hear and I used to love watching Sha na na
Certainly one of the best groups to grace our ears. All super talented
Reminds me of the Blues Brothers!! 🎷 💙💙💙
Grew up listening to Sha na na. Thanks for this!
so much fun!
Loved their music when I was a kid. Bowser was classically trained on the piano
Best TV show EVER!!!! Bring it back to us on MeTV!!!! ❤❤❤
Wow..Billy Crystal has a really good voice..
I wonder what they thought of this music at the time. It had only been 14 years since the 1950s. That'd be like someone trying to bring back the sound of 2010 right now.

Took the words right out of my mouth 10 when I watched that first run on the little B&W in my bedroom. Blown away. I think they were on a Showtime at the Apollo in that same time period.

@@cee8mee I'd sneak in the living room at night to watch. Those were the days!
As a kid in the ‘70s, born ‘69, I had no idea this was a ‘50s nostalgia thing: Happy Days, American Graffiti, etc. I thought it was all part of our modern ‘70’s culture.😂
love this ❤ thanks for posting 😊
Such great memories! I love these guys!
Cool!
Sha Na Na's Classic Lineup
These guys are so great
Too much fun.
Bowzer!💖
Grease for peace!
Every time I see Bowser, I see Kozmo Kramer (Michael Richards) when he was in UHF with Weird Al (before Seinfeld).

UHF was filmed in Tulsa and the T.V studio was actually owned by Al's Aunt. Fun fact
More talent in one member of this group than anything that exists today.
Shboom! ❤
Yes , these guys were good and had a fun tv show as did Manhattan Transfer , good times for all genres
fantastici
Denny looks so handsome.
I will always tell them that one guy is Johnny Knoxville. Damn Time travelers :D
I like the shiw they had in the 70s.
The 70s nostalgia for the 50s was strong…
Bowser was the original Fonz
How many of these guys were the originals at Woodstock?

I believe 4 in this video. Donny York, Denny Greene, John Marcelino & Scott Powell
Watched the show as a kid but mom n dad said it was bedtime before it was over 😢. My fav part was the ending😅
Right up there with the Village People.
1973. I wonder if Fonzie was based on Bowzer
LOL, I found the biden commercial hilarious.
I had to look it up. I guess “Shanana” is an expression of delight. Now I don’t know if the word came from the group, or if the group liked the word and slightly modified it for the name of the band. I suspect the band’s name created the expression. But don’t quote me.

Actually, the name "Sha Na Na" was taken from the chorus background chant of this song...in fact, the group was originally called The Kingsmen, but changed it b/c there was already an act with that name (the band that recorded "Louie, Louie").
Billy Crystal & Kobe Bryant 😆😆
Bowser certainly doesn't look like a trained opera singer.
Seen them live at the golden rock 50s and 60s nite club in Orlando fl in the early 80s
billy crystal was in sha na na
Do you have the Toto episode?
I lost my virginity to sha na na . This song was playing

This is so bad. They could have had Black Sabbath but instead we get this.
