Superb performance by one of the most fabulous orchestras of modern times. This really is a masterpiece endeavor, so well organized and presented. And what masterful sound!

Three cheers to these musicians and to George Gershwin! This is the party-piece of American, New York, Jazz Age orchestral social-realism, and knockout musical witticism. One can almost smell Broadway and Wall Street and 5th Avenue in the Roaring 20s, percolating out of Gershwin's electrifying syncopated Harlem-inflected score. The opening shots of the post-Great War, "American Century" of breathless, ever-synthesising, and ever-revolutionary modernism. Brilliantly played by the FRS, and magisterially conducted by the wonderful mlle Giedrė Šlekytė (she with the unspellable name, at least to English eyes and ears). That lush sound of saxophones, trombones, muted jazz trumpets, flutes, French horns, and clarinets galore! Like the roar of a Cadillac v12 engine. Music to the sound of which one should make love, all evening and all night long ! Whether for money or heavenly pleasure, or both, and with how many other beautiful women, is not material. I don't know why more echt jazz bands don't feature French Horns? Love andrea

When I first came across this, I'd heard this piece so many times that I was only slightly interested in watching. Wow, did that quickly change. This virtuoso performance brought out the interplay of all the musical lines and the wonderful colors and complexity of Gershwin's orchestration like I've never heard it before. The life and flow and energy were just incredible. Thank you so much for this performance!

Das hr-Sinfonieorchester ist nicht erst seit dieser Aufführung unter den Top-5 meiner Lieblingsorchester. Wie man hier schön sehen und vor allem hören kann, nicht ohne Grund. Äußerst lebhafte Aufführung mit Spitzenprofessionalität von Orchester und Dirigentin. Macht einfach Spaß!

mein Top-5 wäre: Mit Abstand das Frankfurt RSO, und dann New York Phil., Chicago Symphony, NDR Orchester, und das Phion Orchestra.

Wonderful. I don't know why but I almost know this score from memory. Gershwin is one of America's best composers. I suppose because he is able to make his scores relatable to every day life.
