Shopping street from Adenauerplatz to Otto-Suhr-Allee
Named before 1824; previous names Kleine Speerstraße, Wilmersdorfischer Weg. Former field path between the villages of Lützow and Wilmersdorf.
The section between Krumme Strasse and Schillerstraße was opened as a car-free pedestrian zone in the fall of 1978. Retail stores and department stores are concentrated here. The starting point for shopping is the Wilmersdorfer Strasse subway station on line 7. 118 Wilmersdorfer Strasse is also home to the city's oldest department store: founded in 1906 under the name "Graff and Heyn" on Pestalozzistrasse, it now houses a Karstadt branch. After the visual decline of the pedestrian zone, the pavilions and canopies of the subway exits were removed in 2001 as part of a redesign to improve the ambience. Since then, Wilmersdorfer Strasse has seen a significant improvement in its image - not least thanks to the activities of the newly founded AG Wilmersdorfer Strasse e.V.. In 2005 the Kant Center opened, in September 2007 the Wilmersdorfer Arcaden - today Wilma Shoppen.
