Gravity-defying assist by Uwe Seeler. Uwe was captain in the final against England in 66. After the famous Hurst goal was given (over the line if you're English but not in you're German ;) you can see him telling his team mates to leave the lineman alone. Had the pleasure of showing him round London. Very friendly guy. Uwe told me the teams visited each other for many years afterwards. He used to go and stay with Bobby Charlton.

Possibly the best game ever played. Italy went up early and Germany had to try to break the Italian catenaccio for almost the entire game until they finally did so. They already had an unbelievable extra time game vs England in the quarterfinal when they turned a 2-0 deficit around to win 3-2. That character they had made this game so great I think.

I saw this game in person when I was 8 years old from my dad's skybox. I still remember the emotion of the goal at second half, Mueller's goal, seeing Beckenbauer with his arm (I didn't understand the effort, even though everyone was talking about it) and my sadness when Germany lost. Since then, I have been an admirer of German culture. Nowadays, I always sustain that Italy emptied during this game and for them was impossible to sustain the physical effort during the 2nd half against Brazil at Mexico City 2,300 meters of altitude (If you see the Final game, the first half was equilibrated). 16 years later, I saw Diego from the same seats

Alemania debió ganar, el árbitro no cobró un penal para Alemania. Beckenbauer jugó el suplementario lesionado, vean el 4to gol de Italia, parado estaba el Kaiser además cansados porque el partido anterior habían jugado un partido duro con Inglaterra y fueron a suplementario. En cambio Italia había tenido un partido fácil con México.

Recall as a 12 years old child. Unforgettable game could not sleep afterwards

This is football at its finest ever. I get so emotional when I see this match highlights. Mullers razor sharp reflexes, Rivas left foot, Riveras precise winner. In a way, good that Germany lost because it would have been tiring to play a rampant Brazil in the final. Italy were just about able to ward off Germanys challenge. The 1982 loss to Italy in the final came after a tiring semi final win over France.

So, Italy was drained just because they played 30 minutes longer some days before the final? This does not make any sense at all. The fact is that Brazil was much much better than any other team back then. Its just an excuse to justify the defeatz which, looking in hindsight, was inevitable.

No less than six penalty kicks could and should have been awarded to the Germans. The referee was so busy watching the ball he failed to see that time after time Gerd Muller was held, kicked and tripped and was flat on his face when the ball finally passed across the Italian goalmouth.
