That's a nice collection. I too caught the sickness of antique knives, particularly stag handled knives. I think they can be beautiful and are a reminder of a different time in the world, like functional history.

Solingen is the steel. I have a small antler handle knife made by Anton Wingen Jr. made in the late 1930's.

So glad I found this. My great grandfather stormed the beaches of Normandy and after they had gone around and cut fingers off to take rings, etc. He took a solingen knife off of a German soldier and it ended up back in America with him. And he passed it on to my grandfather, who since passed it on to me. It's got dark stains on the back of the knife and I'm presuming it is blood stains, and I can't get them off ( not that I want too). I'm glad I found this youtube video! Thanks for the share

@adamkenney2112 your story is almost identical to mine. My great grandfather took the knife off a German soldier and has since made its way to my hands. Similar blood stains as well

I have a solingen 461 also!! I just got it from my grandpas tacklebox that he said he hadn’t even opened since 1984! It had a pack of marshmallows that expired in 1984 in the box as well😂😂

I've got an Edge Mark 457 I've had for 40 years. My first hunting knife in fact. It's still my most used fixed blade due to a happy accident. The handle has an odd shape that makes it fit most comfortably in the left hand. Being a lefty this is the most comfortable knife I've ever held. Yes, it needs much more maintenance than a lot of knives but I can use it for hours without gloves and never get a blister or callous.

I have a few old knives hanging on my "man cave" wall and i took a closer look at them after watching this video. I have an original buffalo skinner , its also marked western germany so im guessing thats cold war stuff. The handle is still tight but doesnt have the original sheath. I wish i could still talk to my grandfather to find out the story of how he got it.

Hello, excellent collection of knives, I have a Solinger knife, on the sheath there is a reindeer, the handle is made of leather and the knob is aluminum, it was owned by my great-grandfather, I would like you to collaborate by giving me more information, I would be happy to send you photos, thank you.

That is an awesome stag handled knife collection! Stag handles and knives go together like peanut butter and jelly! Do you have to worry about storing them in the sheaths? I would think that might cause corrosion in some areas. Thanks for sharing.

Cool! That buffalo skinner 5:50 ... My brother found one of those at the side of the road back in 1983-ish. He loved that knife. Made a sheath for it and carried it for decades.

@@Dannosoutdoors some years ago i tried to find informations about the manufacturer of the knife(which brand etc) but I couldn’t. The only thing i found out was that some manufacturer made those knifes on behalf of a company in USA who imported them… Pretty much what you also said. After I bought it, i saw some others, a little similar to mine, but i never saw an identical one! Until today that i saw yours!😊

I cut a notch out of the middle of a flat screw driver with a cutting wheel so the sides are longer then the middle. It works quite well. The only thing tho is when u tighten up the notch nut you have to carefully grind the center down

I took a old flat head screwdriver and ground the middle part with a grinder cutting blade so it could fit the pummal nut. Then wen tightened make sure u hold the stag antler part to keep it from being miss aligned.
