This movie is far better than 1917 and is a decent remake of a classic World War I movie. Far more realistic than 1917 war in the trenches was a very brutal affair and is one of the main reason the French surrendered so quickly in the 2nd World War. They did not want a repeat of the first War where nearly three million were killed. I will plan on getting this movie whereas 1917 I will never watch.

Lol, so you've never seen 1917, but say it's better? If you were as smart as you think you are, you would know that they really aren't comparable in their meaning and purpose. One is about brutality, as the other is about humanity.

You hate 1917 but you don't plan on watching it? Honestly man maybe just enjoy good films instead of trying to nitpick for accuracy and brutalism

What are you talking about? Please read a real history book. The French did not surrender so quickly in 1940 because WWI had been brutal. They surrendered because high command had prepared for a rerun of WWI and not for a manoeuvering kind of warfare using tank divisions upheld by overwhelming close air support, something they had started to do at the end of WWI. During the battle of France the French fought as hard has they had done during WWI, their losses in 2 months of intense fighting were of same kind as the worse months of WWI. When the best French and English divisions entered Belgium to protect it from the Germans, the Germans outflanked them and then surrounded them by making a breakthrough near Sedan. The allies then lost the best part of their armies and were not in any way prepared to stop fast moving panzerdivisionen. The battle of France was an utter strategic and tactical failure from the allies part (French and British altogether) absolutely not a lack of courage from the french troops. Then the worst happened. Far right elements and german sympathisers took power and sided with Nazi Germany thinking it would be the winning side and betrayed all France stood for. Yes France did not want to repeat the slaughter WWI had been and it is why during 2 decades they prepared for a defensive war. But during the 30s, a new kind of war emerged and despite having some officiers asking for a deep change of french army doctrine, the high command did not aknowledge the changes happening. But when the war started, the French were willing to defend themselves as ahard as their fathers had been.

@@vlad78th I will agree that the French High Command were a bunch of idiots but I would disagree with France being willing to fight. When they surrendered the Germans took nearly 1.8 million French prisoners. Also during the Phony War France did invade the Saar when is was vastly under defended and General Gamelin fall off the attack since his soldiers met a vastly undefended Siegfried Line. The French at the time had better tanks sure slow but better but their Air Force was outdated and because to the above inaction after calling off an offensive into Germany they give up when they actually met the enemy.

Just not sure what the point of this film is. shoot up Hollywood copy rather than world renown anti-war epic. The final battle scene completely looses the point of the book but im sure the producers and financiers will not care.

I've seen people complain over and over about the innacuracies with the book but here's my answer to that, nobody cares about the books, we just want perfeclty historically accurate movies about brutal war, with scenes so surreal that it sends shivers down your spine

This actually is showing the brutality of war and is an anti-war movie. They wanted to depict how horrible war is, this isn't glorifying war. Also, all the soldiers die, which further shows the waste of war

i wouldnt say that this is a remake of the previous all quiet on the western fronts but more like an adaptation. I think paul dying like 2 seconds before the cease fire in a german offensive that late in the war is stupid, and it would have been the germans retreating and the french pushing, but overall i like the movie. it portrays the horrors of ww1 semi-historically accurate. This stuff did happen once-upon-a-time in ww1 (except the ending) but again, i think it was about delivering a message rather than revolutionizing the previous versions.
