My German Shepherd pup throws himself down the stairs with so much gusto, I'm afraid he'll hurt himself. I try to keep the fetch throws on a single level in our home.

I have had a couple of German Shepherd dogs in my life but fortunately, all of them have gone up or down the stairs. I have never pushed them to do it. If time is right they will go. Once I came home and saw all my puppies were sitting at the top of the stairs 🤭 if the puppy is trying but falling maybe he is too young to do it yet.

When I taught any of my dogs stairs , I put their harness on and a leash, once they mastered the stairs, I remove the leash, kept the harness on, so they know they are to follow me or beside me, when they learn that then they are free to obey! Standing at the bottom, teaches them nothing and can risk injury, but hey you got the video🤷🏻‍♀️

What a Beautiful video. It sure made my day. She's a great mom. I had six German Shepherds in my life and they none of them, for whatever reason didn't want to go up and down more than three stairs. They never went in the basement, but didn't really have to either. Thanks for your video❗❗

Please don't let a puppy go up or down the stairs before they are at least half a year old. It's really important to not let them do that until their joints have hardened because otherwise you won't have the dog as long as he/she might get without joint pain

Very cute and adorable ❤😍🥰🤗! I do not intend any offense, but please make sure the little one does not walk or run down stairs! Her bones are not fully developed and there is a very high risk for pups getting extreme injuries or sustained damage on their spine! Worst case scenario are prolapsed discs which can eventually lead to paralysis!

No not at all. It's the going down you have to be careful of. It's the same with human babies. Crawling UP strengthens muscles and teaches them motor skills and learning their mechanics. But going down is far more dangerous. Its best to start teaching that at the first or second step so there's not too far to fall and you're there to catch them.

Thank you, they are little cutie pies 🐶🥰 I never make them do something they don't like. They love exploring and trying out new things and checking out their surroundings so I let him come up but you are right, excessive exercise or making a puppy go up or down the stairs a lot can harm his bones

Not to walk upstairs and down at that age...any dog..really bad for bones and joints and growth...

It is very dangerous for puppies to use stairs. Usually you will pick them up and move up or down,. Stairs are bad for puppies bones and joints which are still in development- soft.

While you might watch this video and think it's "cute" you completely fail to understand the stress the action of pouncing down each step one at a time places upon the shoulders of dogs while they are puppies and even more so as adults, this WILL contribute to Canine Joint Dysphasia and Shoulder Osteochondrosis Dissecans.
