To answer your question on how much that cost: Organizers in Nashville spent an estimated $500,000 on this 23-minute Independence Day show. A single shell of one of those big fireworks can cost several hundred dollars.

Most of it is paid for by local businesses who sponsor and donate for their business names to be listed on signs and flyers and in the newspapers, etc. If it brings in people to the city or town to spend money at restaurants and bars, it's worth it to the businesses in the area to make sure people go the their town rather that opt for another town that has a fireworks show.

That shot where you see 4 separate places side by side launching fireworks looks like New York City. They fire them over the river and often light 4 identical types of fireworks in synchronization. It costs a bundle to do all that.

so it was Washington crossing the Delaware river ( to attack Hessian Mercenaries, ironically for you) not settlers. and the jets were FA 18 fighter jets painted as BLUE ANGELS. the US NAVY flight demonstration team!! thanks for this video we most of us REALLY do love our country.

I am from San Diego and when I was growing up, my Grandparents used to own a home in Pacific Beach near La Jolla. We could see the bay and Sea World tower from their balcony. Every 4th of July my entire family would go to their house. Grandpa would get really excited about grilling and want to brag about the quality of the meat that he bought. He grew up during the depression, so he was really proud of being able to buy excellent food and go to places like Costco. Us kids would run around and play. We would have dinner as a family, with lots of noise from everyone talking and being generally excited. Around 8:45, Grandpa would start getting out all the blankets and the transistor radio, so we could all sit on the balcony and listen to patriotic music when the fireworks began. While this was going on, the pie was being cut and distributed so we could enjoy coffee and pie on the balcony while watching the fireworks. Then the fireworks would start. We were really lucky because the view my Grandparents had from their balcony allowed us to see 3 different firework shows at the same time. However, the Sea world fireworks were the main show for us. Everyone would be talking and making sure everyone had a blanket and pie. When the fireworks began though, a hush would fall over us, except the occasional, "Ohh, Ahh!" and "Wow! That's so pretty!" Those are my favorite 4th of July memories.

Independence Day /4th of July fireworks celebrations happen all over the country, in every state (at least in the lower 48). There are several 4th of July fireworks celebrations in many cities and towns within each and every state. Its a big, beautiful event thats put on each year in celebration of our country's independence, and yes, its pretty expensive (several hundred thousand dollars to several millions for more elaborate shows in bigger cities). There's also parades, live bands, food, barbecues, picnics, and family gatherings to celebrate. Many people also buy their own fireworks that they light off at the end of their driveways, or in big open fields, big empty lots or spaces, etc. Some people may choose to stay home and catch the fireworks celebration on TV. However we choose to celebrate, wherever we are, it's a big deal that many of us dont take for granted. For me personally, it's both a day filled with patriotism & pride, but can also be emotional. HAPPY 4TH OF JULY, AMERICA!! 🎆 🇺🇸 🦅🗽 God bless this great land.

Dear sweet Chris, yes it's expensive af and these displays are free for us. I didn't watch the fireworks this year, but I went to my neighbors for food and fun. I was telling my friend Todd about you and ended up showing him the video of you watching Toby Keith (we aren't country music fans or real proud of our country at the moment), but I was like, "You have to see this beautiful German boy remind us how to love our country. He's so pumped he gets me pumped!!" Long story short, when people heard your accent they were so curious about what we were watching that about ten of us sat there watching your video and LOVING you. Not a single country fan there but now a whole bunch of Chris fans and a beautifully humbling reminder that where we live is pretty damn great and we complain too much.

These are put on all over the United States - obviously large cities have much larger shows, but they happen in small towns as well - and they are paid for by the City usually. There are huge displays especially in Boston, Mass, New York City, Washington DC, and Nashville obviously! I'm near Columbus, Ohio and our celebration called Red, White and Boom is an all day event with firework set to music at the end that go for about 30-40 minutes -- these displays always have a finale of extreme setting off of fireworks -- it's pretty awesome!!

To answer your question, this was probably a city funded show, held at a city owned NFL stadium, Nissan Stadium. Many of the official 4th of July shows are publicly funded and put on by local governments, but there are still also lots of privately funded ones across the country too. Many would be sponsored by companies, but especially when you get into more rural areas where a big official city put on show is less likely, it’s very much also common that you may have some person who just enjoys doing these and has the money to just put on a huge show. If they’re nice, they make it a show they share with the local community, and may even be partially subsidized by the community later on in an effort to help make what has turned into the official show for everyone that much better. Truly, as much as many people celebrating don’t even really like the US that much most days right now, there are epic fireworks celebrations of just about every size, variety, public/private/etc funded all over the country. Many may be government funded and put on, but there’s just so many varieties that there’s no true one standard. It’s honestly what makes it all so fun…unless you have a dog who is scared, or have PTSD and hate loud noises. Then it’s inescapable almost.

  • @TankGuy3

The funding is a combination of some government funding, but a lot of companies donate money, and even individuals donate around my area. There's also a lot more than just fireworks (that's usually the finale of events), there's usually live bands, food, beer tents, etc.

Now you know the secret of why the Fourth of July is looked forward to with so much enthusiasm, not to mention the BBQ's and Baseball games. Most fireworks displays last about a half an hour and it's breathtaking in person! Especially when you see them reflected in the water! It makes you think of "the rockets red glare and the bombs bursting in air" as sang about in our National Anthem.

ETA: The bit at 2:20 where you thought it was settlers is Washington crossing the Delaware River. Oddly, I actually spent today celebrating at Washington's Crossing Park both here in New Jersey and on the Pennsylvania side as well. Chris, I'm just new into my 77th. year, and I've never seen anything to compare to the drone pix at the beginning. That was amazing!!! In case you're not "up to speed" on the American marches by John Philip Sousa, the song at the beginning of Part 2 was Stars and Stripes Forever. It depends on the city how the fireworks show is funded. Where I live in northern IL, it's privately funded. At about 6:50, it suddenly got really intense. My guess is that was the finale of the display. The great thing about that city's display is that its reflection is in a body of water.

Most of the time July 4th celebrations are organized by local cities and business. Fire Departments are usually involved in the firework lighting for safety purposes. 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays but videos on youtube can't do it justice! To be there and feel those firework explosions in your chest and hear everyone cheer together is amazing. It's one of the only days of the year where I feel the most patriotic and proud to be an American. I've also always loved the symbol the fireworks are supposed to represent. Like our National Anthem talks about the flag still standing after all the chaos and explosions from British attacks.

My neighborhood is just now ramping up their fireworks. It's 7:45 pm, and it will probably go on past midnight!! Fireworks 🎆 🎇 🧨 Usually, the really large fireworks shows are put on by a town or city. Some might be paid for by taxpayers, and some might be paid for with donations from businesses sponsoring the event. For example, the city tourism or commerce department will plan many months in advance by asking restaurants, banks, and other businesses to donate for advertising opportunities or to be able to set up at the event. Usually a pyrotechnics company is hired to do the show. i actually think the drone show was really cool and a good alternative to fireworks in a high fire danger area.

Same, but I didn't live in DC just close! Being on the ground near the momunment or on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial all you end up seeing is smoke. We went a few times when I was little but stopped for that reason. We live near Fort Meade so going there was way better.

In many towns, the fireworks are set up by the local government but paid for partially by local businesses. The Macy's fireworks are of course paid for by Macy's - though they also may receive other sponsorships.

Chris you'll have to come be here next Fourth of July. Starting around 6 minutes and then again at 6:45, these are the Grand Finale of the fireworks displays. Usually, they do one you think is the grand finale and then it might go quiet, after which everyone starts heading out and then they start another round, which is the real Grand finale. At the best shows the music is synchronized with the explosions. Americans love blowing up fireworks on and around the fourth of July. Citiess, states and private citizens kind of "compete" with each other for the best show.

The NASCAR night race in Daytona when it was in July would actually put on a really good fireworks show at the end of the race. I've seen it many times. Not exactly like this though.

There are both publicly and privately funded firework celebrations on Independence Day, all across the country. Towns, cities, counties, social organizations, professional sports teams, historical and educational institutions, the US Military, large and small businesses, the National Park Service, etc., sponsor them.

Chris, what the video does not convey is the SOUND of the explosions, and even more, the full-body impact of the concussions as the explosions go off. It's a visceral experience.

I went to our fireworks display tonight. Rather than fight the crowds, there's a highway overlooking the downtown area. There's a really good place to pull off the road and see the fireworks. Just before it started some other guy pulled up in a truck with a drone, to take aerial footage of it. I told him he needs to post that on KZread. We'll see.

The most fun I ever had on the Forth of July was in Germany. 1987 was the year. I was stationed in Karlsruhe and don't remember the exact town Germshin(maybe) but I could ride the strassebanh to it. It was a quarry and they had a a shovel you could jump off in a quarry 50 meters. It hurt if you landed wrong. Ok maybe 50 feet. 50 meters would be ridiculous.

2 - 3 weeks before The Kentucky Derby the City of Louisville, KY begins its annual celebration. The Saturday two weeks before the Derby is 'Thunder Over Louisville'. It begins with an all day air show (one of the Top Five in the nation) and finishes with the largest annual fireworks show in the U.S. "Actually it's has been said that Thunder Over Louisville is the third largest fireworks display after the Statue of Liberty rededication and the Philadelphia Bicentennial.
