The fact that the video recording during world war 2 was still not so advanced, black and white and cameramen only recorded artillery barrages, air strikes, and skirmishes without showing the gore gives us a lesser feeling of how violent was this war.

Almost all footage of the Eastern Front is propaganda for one side or the other. Neither Germany nor Russia allowed a free press. The best you can get is some photographs taken and kept without knowledge then developed after the war; then you see the Russians in British/American equipment and the Germans with motley uniforms & horses as it really was.

I wouldn’t quite call these the good old days but it seems like nobody realises how privileged we are in 2022

My Great grandfather fought on the eastern front actually and got captured by the red army. After years of being a war prisoner he could speak fluent Russian and came back to Germany and lived in the neighborhood I grew up in until he died.

I think they turn off the comments because the younger generation comes on here and acts like they were there and that this war happened yesterday and they know it all. It’s ridiculous how people react today to WWII….as if they were there, meanwhile they were all born 50 years after the end of the war. That’s why a lot of the comments are shut down on the old war films IMO. These kids have no clue what living back then was like….none whatsoever. And they bash country after country when they keep their comments to themselves and learn something.

Of course the comments are usually turned off in such videos, they don't want naughty comments exposing the allied lies against Germany They claim the Germans brutalized surrendered soldiers, that they killed the population and bullshit like that. Yet this video shows the population welcoming the Germans as liberators, and fighting in a very civilized and disciplined way (unlike the criminal red army). isn't that funny? The Germans were trying to free us and liberate Russia from the red cancer

The newsreel cameramen were attached to Nazi ground forces, so were encouraged to find -- or stage -- scenes of happy peasants greeting their German liberators. Just like US journalists "embedded" with American troops in Iraq, were expected to put a positive spin on the invasion. But I wonder if those scenes of women handing flowers to Nazi soldiers were filmed in the Ukraine. By the summer of 1941, people in the Ukraine were well and truly sick of Soviet oppression, so they may have actually welcomed the invading Nazi armies.

My grandfather was 17 years old when he joined to partisans in Yugoslavia. He was strong so he got machine gun and 2 man with him. They operated alone near a busy road. He had instruction to kill, no prisoners. They only took the "domobrani" to their underpants and let them go home. He never had that PTSP or had a problem to speak about the war. Lot of story how he fight against the germans and domestic traitors. In last wars in Yugoslavia my uncles also fight near 4 years and they are normal, no PTSP no drama or else. That's on my opinion because they defended family's and didn't harm innocent people.

My great grandfather was in Minsk when the war has started. He was 40 at the time and during german military operations his batallion (he served as Captain in NKVD) was surrounded by german forces. He and part of his squad manage to escape to belarussian forests, where he tried to establish partisan movement and make contact with Moscow. They did pass through frontlines and were put in prison camps due to him being potential german agent. He was released in 1944 and continued fighting till the end of the war. His bullet found him in Berlin in 1945. R. I. P.

@@user-cu7ue9qh7l рекомендую труды Марка Солонина по этой теме + учти, сколько и чего стянули на себя англичане. Подлодки, авиация и т.п. Суммарно утонуло больше стали, чем было израсходовано на танки для Востока. Безусловно, даже с ленд лизом воевали то сами люди, но то, как именно, в совокупности похоже на Пиррову победу. До 60х это было трагедией и слезами, а теперь пошлая гордость и смех непричастных.

Мы всё знаем, чем это закончилось. Может кто стал забывать?

Оба моих деда погибли на войне. Дядя герой советского союза, умер от ран под Бугское, Украина. Другой дядя выжил, попал на конец войны, про войну никогда не рассказывал.

Они не любили вспоминать о войне, слишком глубокая рана на сердце от потери однополчан, от увиденных зверств фашистов, от вида сожженных городов и сёл и от всего ужаса. Мой отец прошёл всю войну, но никогда не рассказывал, помню его слёзы радости, когда случайно встретил однополчанина. Наша страна заплатила высокую цену в той войне!

One of the reasons. The reason they did so well in 1941 is because ussr wasn't ready for a deffensive war + horrible logistical troubles + Stalin being naiv and not beliving the germans attacked until they were at Moscow.

Гранатами и бомбами? Так о чём же был тогда приказ номер 270 от 16 августа 1941 года Ставки Верховного Главнокомандования, патриот недоделанный? А ведь приказ-то был о том, как бороться с МАССОВОЙ сдачей в плен бойцов и командиров Красной армии. И меры предписывались чрезвычайные: от репрессий по отношению к семьям до бомбёжек с воздуха лагерей советских военнопленных. И немудрено: ведь к этому времени в немецком плену находились уже 1.200.000 бойцов и командиров РККА. Но и эти меры не помогли: на 30.11.1941 в плену были уже 3.800.000. За первые 4 месяца войны была полностью уничтожена вся кадровая Красная армия. Дальше воевали призванные из запаса. А народу уже 80 лет лапшу на уши вешают. Как при Сталине начали, так до сих пор и вешают.
