Since you mentioned Formorians that naturally brings to mind well the Irish Formorians. If the prospective groom is a formorian you could have someone like Bres or Balor, the two most famous formorians and perfect if you really want an evil villian for your party to oppose. as for the baby hag, you could draw upon two other things. First the Pathfinder Changelings, which look human for the most part(though they often have talons, and have heterochromia eyes). at a certain age when they start to unlock their powers, they hear the call. The call is when they go to meet their hag mother who will try to fully change her daughter into being a hag; they can resist the call and their mother's dark rituals if they don't wish to become a hag. Second there is the ravenloft Bruja which essentially are good or at least neutral hags, but they are still hags, this includes their magical power, their physical appearance, various traits etc. They tend to have a sadness and melancholic feeling about them. I do find it ironic that it is the horror setting of ravenloft that give us the non-evil hags.

The Pathfinder Changeling idea would add some interesting flavor to the potential hags, exploring why they would want to accept that fate. Definitely going to look into Irish Fomorians now, thanks!

As far as fan name suggestions, I like August Court for its use of the fey court system, the split between summer and winter, and the simultaneous use of the other meaning for "August" as a play against seelie and unseelie court.

@@feywildfiend Thanks. My only hesitation with fiends is they aren't typically overly popular or comfortable in the fey wild. Lawful basically lose their minds or cause all sorts of problems in the realm. Even chaotic are still evil, which, while entertaining from time to time, isn't a state I usually want to live in.

Awesome video! As a German i can confirm that they definately capture the vibe of morst fary tales here, although i did not know of Brunhildas tale, i mostly heard her name in the longer epic type stories. But thank you for introducing it to me. I really like the shroud as its creepy but also has a nice meaning about grief (at least when the Ghosts are not agressive) As for Brunhilda I would probably make Bodo a tall angry winter eladrin, because upon hearing the more nordic kinds of names i immediately thought of ice giants. I think it would be interesting for ihm to be that guy who lives in this ravine and tells everyone that comes across him his story and then transforms and fights the party if they try to take the crown. I like the idea of people falling in love with the wearer but the crown could also be cursed so that the wearer must (after failing a save probably) transform into said hound to show the items attatchment to being well protected. Either the transformation ends after some time or the only way to get it off would be to dispell the transformation. You could even say that Bodo puts the crown on his head right before he transforms and then drops it upon death so that the players have tecnically been "warned". Thanks for the great content.

The ice giant idea is so good, and I especially love the image of the fallen giant with a crown falling from his brow upon his death. Thank you!

When I think of worldbuilding the feywild I tend to look to Scandinavian, mainly swedish, folklore. A lot of it would just be one-off encounters, like a skogsrå or näcken. But some creatures, like trolls could be very interesting. A big inspiration there is John Bauer's art. An easy way would be to have the party rescue a princess from the trolls, which would be classic. But these trolls are often portrayed as very wealthy, so maybe they get hired by a troll. These trolls could possibly have magical abilities, or some powerful magical item. A word for magic in swedish is "trollkonst" which literally translates to "troll art" or "troll craft". And the swedish word for wizard is "trollkarl" which literally translates to "troll man". Maybe they need to go to the trolls kn their mountain (trolls often live in mountains) to retrieve some magic item the trolls made, or just have. And since these trolls are clever they have to go on some quest for the trolls in order to get it. Another that could be just a one-off, or how they end up in the feywild could be älvor. This often gets translated to "elves", but that could get confusing. They often appear when it's misty, and they look like people (often beautiful women) in white dancing. They'll try to get the part to dance with them, possibly with some charm effect. But in a lot of stories, if you join the älvdans you can't leave. So that could be how they're whisked away to the feywild. I'm sure there's more to find, but that's what I could think of off the top of my head

I've just looked up John Bauer's art, and it is so beautiful. I've been fascinated with Scandinavian trolls for a while, and I love the idea of maintaining that misty, charming fey element. I'll definitely be looking further into the ideas you mention!

I love the idea of a hot sandy desert in the material plane being a vast frozen area in the feywild. With massive ice crystals and ice caverns and occasional blizzards instead of sand storms. There could even be a parallel oasis in each plane. A natural hot spring in the feywild could be located where a desert oasis is at on the material plane.

A neat question to ask would be why is winter evil? Just because? Cosmic balance, for every summer fae there is a winter fae of equal strength? Here are a couple of my ideas: Originally all of the fae were neutral to good but a greater demon or devil attacked and those who went to fight it were turned evil upon defeating it. The good fae don't destroy winter because the Evil was immortal and occasionally returns and before they fell those that fought swore to defeat it. And so they are bound forever to fight it keeping the rest of the feywilds safe. The Faewilds are the domain of Demeter. The idea of there being 4 courts is wrong. There is one court but they change with the seasons. When it is winter Demeter mourns for her daughter and all the melancholy and destructive impulsive that Demeter feels manifest in the court. Summer = joy, Spring = hope, and fall = dread. Tatania and Mab would be the same character at different times of the year.

For the lore I've looked into and plan to use, it seems that the Summer Prince turning into the Prince of Frost would have made the Winter Court turn Unseelie. It's not necessarily that they're all evil but that they are certainly more likely to be. Great ideas! I like your nod to Greek mythology with Demeter.

Kinda love Brunhilda as the princess of one of the borderline courts (Autumn or Spring). Also, as a maths teacher, kinda love the idea of a weirdly geometric ravine/lake/gorge in the middle of the four courts, and the crown acting as one of many magical items within this "lawless land" (also, what would that mean in the feywild lol). The crown could be a cursed item, too, since it's what 'cursed' Brumhilda to have to marry the giant, and getting rid of it is what brought her freedom. Perhaps the players have to decide if the extraordinary power of this fabled item is worth it? LOVE your idea for the shroud!!! DEFINITELY GOING TO USE THE BABY HAGS TOO!!! thanks so much for these!! I have a circle of spores druid whose entire "mission" is to stop the hags from fucking with the cycle of life and death, so i've been trying to think of how to use hags more. thanks!

Idea: What if mom, 1, and 3 are all conventionally beautiful and 2 is the conventionally unattractive one? And it turns out that the Prince is more concerned with finding a gentle, caring wife rather than one who looks beautiful but is actually a terrible person. Also maybe the ending could be more satisfying than just "then she got over the trauma of more than a decade of abuse and forgave her family without any hint of an apology".

Idk what 5e has done with psionics but... Young hag with 3 eyes just screams at psionic potential to me, especially in the context of the girl falling asleep but her "third eye stayed open" it could be due to the lack of a physical 3rd eye and refers to her supernatural mental awareness. I always prefer the "Psionics is different" approach which would make enterprising heroes using detect magic and such blind to the true power of such a character, and also the presents the issue where two of the young hags actually look like normal little girls, and the one who only has one eye then is much easier to give the benefit of the doubt to, even if they are mean spirited they're still just children.... Or are they? Mix this in with a "Children of the Corn" type of set up where these 3 are being raised as young hags (where IS their mother) and activity encouraging vile behavior amongst the mundane children in the town or whatever yr set up might be and this can be a deliciously terrifying adventure, especially if the participation of mundane children is not revealed immediately, like the town hires the heroes to deal with some unknown monster that slaughters livestock in the night and such, spends some time in the surrounding wilderness fighting all sorts of monstrous things before they begin to notice that the monsters are themselves afraid of the town! This leads them back to the children and eventually the young hags, but again, do they just kill the young hags? Where IS their mother? Big final boss material if you ask me.
