Hahaha yeah, for the sake of our eyes (and Geralt's) I should've turned it off, but honestly I kept it on for one reason - it never failed to make me laugh. It's such a ridiculous armor design - how's anyone supposed to take them seriously when they look like that!? I doubt the wrinkles provide any extra protection xD

I did like how they humanised Emhyr. If you tell him your quest to find Ciri is difficult, like a needle in a haystack, he lowers his guard a little and tells you about all the threats and problems he faces as Emperor. Geralt seems a little taken aback, and doesn't push the point.

When you remember the absolute mess that was Fergus, it suddenly makes sense why Emhyr probably doesn’t have the best grasp on what fatherhood is.

Let’s see, between the books and games, Emhyr started three devastating wars, partnered with Vilgefortz, killed his wife, attempted to find his daughter so he could marry her, wanted to have a child with her, and only narrowly decided against killing Geralt and Yennefer because Geralt actually appealed to his minuscule conscience by making him feel bad about the aforementioned. Yeah, pretty much a villain. Which is why I can never bring myself to play the Empress Ciri ending in The Witcher 3. Just when I consider it, I think of her calling Emhyr “papa” in Blood and Wine and that snaps me out of it.

100% this! ^^^ I never cave to Emhyr in the games because I read the books. Let Emhyr die alone, unhappy and cold! Besides, I'm Team Temeria, even though Foltest was a major a'hole.

Very good video, in the Books Emhyr is even worse than the picture we get from him in the video. He "accidentally" killed Ciri's mom, he then afterwards wants ciri back, to marry her, and make heirs with his own child, the bastard!

As a wee lad, I thought Emhyr and Nilfgaard as a whole would be preferable compared to the sinking ship that is Radovid and maybe the whole Northern Realm. It's even said that the Empire is more modern than the North. But for a "modern" empire, it just happens that the barbaric practice of slavery are VERY prevalent down there (compared to the North). That immediately turned me away.

I mean, every Empire comes with it's own pros and cons, to put it like that. I don't know if any book or comic ever touched on this, but in Star Wars, even though the Sith were the leaders of The Galactic Empire, one could easily argue that life for common people could have been rather pleasant for all we know. Luke in Episode 4 wanted to join the Imperial academy to become a pilot, Han was a stormtrooper before becoming a smugler... The Romans had slaves, yet they had one of the longest lasting empires in history, they had trade, they had peace (for the most part), people could live happily and prosperously. I think it's never quite as simple as "They did X so they must be bad". IMO, The Witcher is a series that constantly emphasizes there's no clear line between good and evil, the human vs nonhuman conflict comes to mind first for me. Some humans are racist, but they aren't evil because of it. Some Scoia'tel are racist as well, and their past suffering doesn't exactly justify their violence against humans.

I just beat the game for a first time and got witcher ending with no guides, just trusted my gut. Well my gut and Gunther O’Diemm tips 🤣 what a masterpiece. This game is real Gothic 3 that we deserved.

interesting cause in my latest witcher 3 playthrough, i am making geralt a little nilfgaardian fanboy. with his focus on making ciri the empress and wearing the lovely nilfgaardian armour.

I still think that's the best ending, because in this scenario you give Ciri the possibility of meeting her father and AFTER that she makes HER own decision about becoming Empress. Ciri is a grown up woman that can make decisions of her own.

I have to hand it to the Nilfgaardians - I may not like their viewpoints, but they have FANTASTIC style. Netflix armor aside, all of their gear is straight fire.

I ended up with the empress ending, it felt like the selfless ending and one that allowed ciri to reach her full potential, as empress she could create a better world for people through actual political power, whereas I love the witcher ending it was the more selfish ending, she gets to enjoy the life she's trained for and freedom of the road and do good where she can, but as we've seen in the world of the witcher that's not enough, people the next village over still suffer, countries will still wage war, and monsters keep on roaming like cochroaches.

That is why this is the bad ending, Ciri is sacrificing her own happiness, it is the ultimate sad ending, and, for me, the worst.

Ciri said it herself, didn't she? Something along the lines of, "What would a Witcher know of saving the world?"

By the time of the books and games monsters are not such a big of threat or as numerous as when witchers were first created. They are very dangerous, don't get me wrong, but they are rarely something that normal human soldiers aren't able to handle. At the same time, I doubt that Ciri as Empress could make the lives of common people better... most of them wouldn't have any clue who their local Lord or Lady was, let alone their Empress. They'd care more about their mayor, in the same way most common soldiers care more about their direct superiors than the Marshall/General who oversees the whole army. I am pretty sure it's something seen in our history as well, lands would change hands and folk living there would be none the wiser, unless an army straight up marched through their village. Flotsam from Witcher 2 comes to mind, you can hear the prostitutes asking "Who's this Foltest they say has died?"
