The GEPRC Rocket Lite has a tall task ahead of it if it wants to be the best DJI micro whoop. The BetaFPV 95X and the Transtec Beetle are stiff competition. But there's a certain type of person that the Rocket is perfect for, and I'd like to help you figure out if that's you.

    In this video, I'm flying the DJI system in "high quality" mode. This means that the latency is about 40-45 ms instead of the typical 25-35 ms that I normally see in "low latency" mode. I figured since the Vista can only record DVR, I wanted the best quality DVR I could get. What do you think? Is this video quality good enough for you, or would you want the Air Unit with on board recording instead?

  • @bigspeedfpv

    @bigspeedfpv

    4 жыл бұрын

    The quality is really good but in my opinion it's not worth it. If I could use a full Air Unit I'd take that over the Vista. I don't think the higher latency is worth it on top of lower quality DVR. Although it is really impressive, I don't think I'll switch any time soon - I mainly race and the variable latency threw me off when I tried to fly. Back to the question - I'd prefer the Air Unit, no question. It doesn't have OSD clutter, doesn't have the blockiness from breakup and doesn't double the latency (as far as I know...?)

  • @JoshuaBardwell

    Professional footage is the best footage available for a given situation. News coverage use footage from cell phones (really bad footage) all the time, because that's the available footage. There are and will be situations where a DJI air unit is the best, and maybe only, available solution. The conclusion of it all is that the DJI air unit, and the small quads that carry them are, will be, and should be in a professional's quiver. EXCELLENT REVIEW!

    Now that there's a Plus version of the Rocket, it seems like there are some really solid options for 2-2.5" quads with full-size air units. I'm fantasizing about a shootout between that, the iFlight DC2, and the Transtec Beetle. I'm not sure which 2-2.5" DJI-HD quad to pick up for summer flying. But a shootout like that would make it easier to decide 🙂

    Joshua, I may be at fault here, but just in case it was an oversight (assumptions and all), I simply followed your link for the NetDot USB cables, but failed to notice they were USB-C and not USB micro-A. I just assumed the latter, as every stack I've encountered in my limited time FPV (thanks for all the insightful and free videos) has had the micro-A plugs. I just wanted to throw that out there. Luckily its easy to order the connectors by themselves. Outside of that a solid recommendation.

    As far as running a GoPro Session... I've got the GepRC CinePro (same frame) with 1105 4500kv XING motors, ditched the prop guards for 2.5" props. And ditched the Caddx Tarsier for a Foxeer Micro Arrow Pro and run a 650mah lipo with the Session. All while staying at 248 grams, and ripping like a beast. Just saying it is possible to run a GoPro on this frame. 👍

    I like my 95x, I know what you mean about it being cobled together but I thought it was the best option for someone newer to this like me that wants to hit gaps and fly around the yard. However yesterday I started having issues with it. I've done the Naco hack and when I try to switch from say 700mw to 1000mw it will go to 1000 then bounce right back to 700 and the signal bars go red and screen gets very distorted until signal comes back. It does when switching to any power, eventually i can get it to stay where I want it. It was fine after the hack, this just started. On latest firmware. Any advice? I contacted betafpv and they told me to contact the dealer but curious if you've heard if this with the Vista? Thanks for all you do JB. Stay safe!

    I watched your previous review of the beetle, ordered one and promptly broke one of the arms...right at the point you pointed out, in the review, where it would most likely occur! Good observation. Any case, I proceed to order another lower assembly from trans-tec. It was out-of-stock for the first week then shipped the following week. (they shipped China Post which has iffy tracking) That was over a MONTH ago! As yet, I have not received the replacement. Trans-tec says it's arrived in the US but is being held up in US customs. Something I understand is happening for many shipment from Asia. So there you have it. Btw...I did enjoy the 5 minutes I had with the quad.

    @@JoshuaBardwell No judgment intended. I consume and appreciate a lot of your content and work you do for the FPV community. Because of this I would like to bring this to your attention: I find it important to mention the other versions exist, because you reason multiple times in the video that the Rocket Lite is missing recording and audio and thus is not suited well for cinematic flying and shots. Because of this judgment, some pilots will trust you to give them all the information about the product that there currently is. You don't mention there is a non-"Lite" version that could at least partially fill this need. You at least once even call it just the "Rocket" as well which, while unintended and normally unproblematic, aids the thought that it's the only version there is. I spend a lot of time researching, comparing and judging the Beetle, Rocket, iFlight DC3 and all their version since your review of the Beetle and bought one of them. If I would have watched this video without doing my homework, I would have ruled the Rocket out on principle, not knowing you were just talking about the light version. A ton of work goes into these videos, the schedule is always tight and there is so much production going on behind the scenes, I get you can't always get even close to everything you want into a video. Thank you for all your effort and great output!

  • @JoshuaBardwell

    @JoshuaBardwell

    The DJI FPV system does not support audio transmission when using the Air Unit and Vista. The DJI FPV quad can send audio, so in theory the system could support it, but when using Air Unit and Vista (e.g. when building your own) you can't do audio.

    @@BlkInc1 Despite being retiremd military, I don't live in the US so shipping = time that can be better spent on other things. Note: In Germany. Keep in mind that time = money, or for the postal service how much they end up charging you to ship a $800-900 pair of goggles before slapping you with an import fee between 17 -50% on top of everything else. So yeah I have to be really careful what I order as the costs / delays can grow unexpectedly.

    The rocket is at the top of my list for dji quads. I just need to get a set of those goggles first😅😅

    MindRider I have a DC5 already and I love how it flies. I’m just worried the DC2 is a bit heavy for its size. I’m desperate for a tiny DJI build and really can’t seem to decide one which to get.

    House of Quad I would probably go A85/95, but small ones can’t fly in wind, and you have to battle jello and vibrations.

    The cables I have ordered come with both micro, iPhone, and USB-C tips. There are three tips per cable.

    This is the exact reason i purchased the GEPRC Rocket PLUS... Exact same dimensions of the frame build, Unit fits snug in the middle. . I also use the DJI Controller so no need to add an extra Receiver mod. I can record 1080p DVR on the unit and its a top mount. Best of all. And the weight balance is actually awesome. You will NOT feel any weight difference compare to the Lite version. Watch Drone camps RC review of the PLUS , he did this following video AFTER he did the exact same review as this JB Video - Check it out kzread.info/dash/bejne/f3-ZrsxsfsvNqto.html
