As a judo player and coach in the 60's and 70's, what I now see cannot be portrayed as judo. It is more a form of wrestling with no resemblance to the sport and art as created by Jigaro Kano.

The constant pressure on the JP team to win and dominate...so great. Even though who wins or who is better that day shouldn't be about where one is from. Since Judo is a Japanese martial art....

Instead of saying "there's nothing there" the announcers should say "both judoka successfully evaded their opponent's adaptive attacks"

+MYGEO One of the principles of commentating on an international event for an international audience is impartiality. Moderate support for the underdog is acceptable but outright bias against one side (i.e. the Japanese) is not. They also provided no useful technical analysis of the contests and, either through lack of attention or lack of knowledge (I suspect the former), completely missed the ude garami initially. This is in no way a criticism of the Georgian team who arguably performed better than the Japanese, but is rather a criticism of the commentators.

Georgians fought better than the Japanese in the last fight. Unfair match.

Is Georgian Judo the most boring in the world? Seems to me as if they must all study the great master of pattacake, belt tying and shidos Teddy Riner. Their main strategy seems to be stopping their opponents taking hold and forcing them into shidos. It was like Judo versus wrestling. Good luck to the Japanese for winning.

georgians just go for the back and try some big hip throw or ura nage. which usually stalls the match. very wrestling-oriented and very predictable.
