Stalin is inextricably linked with Georgia. That being the case, it is best to focus on his positive qualities, while also teaching about his negative deeds. We don't get to pick and choose historical fact. History is history, warts and all!

Nope, Stalin would firstly consult his inner circle, then intellectuals, scientists, etc. before he'd do something. All of which were of multiple ethnicity, but all Soviet. He was able to internalize the opinion of his people the best, to create the best compromise and wisest outcome. This is a lovely documentary. I've been studying Stalin, trying to understand him for a play I'm trying to write. He was brilliant. Totally devoted to the Communist Soviet Union in a religious way. Had become the high priest of it. Bolshevik Socialism had replaced the religious faith he felt so strongly as a child. He was also a paranoid mass-murderer. He'd suffered horrible beatings by both his drunken father and his loving mother. So he trusted no one. His daughter Svetlana inherited his brilliance but didn't get the opportunity to use it in a profession. She was, I think, a normal person, not paranoid. Wish I could have gotten to know her! She died in 2011 in the state of Wisconsin, USA, near where I was living at the time. If only I could have gotten to know her. Some day I hope to visit beautiful Georgia. I'll definitely visit the Stalin Museum. Because ... like those people in your movie, I now sort of love him. And feel sorry for him. (He was so proud. He would hate to hear me say I feel sorry for him...Not that he would care what I think. I being "only a woman.") By the way, I think Olga in your movie should be the next president of Georgia.

As a Georgian I am not proud of Stalin at all and how can I be, after knowing how evil he acted and killed so many people who thought even differently than him. The people who praise him have no idea what was in depth, he was a son of cobbler and alcoholic man, and a washer mother which effected his life and anger to the world, especially to Georgia. He used to go to the seminary to become a priest, but then he was kicked out and joined the revolutionist groups. Olga tried to be cool to talk in Russian in front of camera :D :D I bet she remembers Russian bombing her town in 2008 and still is in love with enemy, such a stupid woman! :) And, that's true, that Russia is still in soviet mentality and tries to have memory of Stalin with the hope that it will conquer other countries again. They tie strongly with same ideas by keeping Lenin's dead body in mausoleum almost a century for now. WTF! It is interesting how frequently they wash the body and do different scientific things to keep the body from decay.

Churchill saying choose between shame and war is the same man who upon becoming Secretary of State for War in January 1919, gained direct responsibility for the British troops remaining in Russia and threw his energy into organising an armed intervention’ against what he called the ‘nameless beast’ of Bolshevism. Prime Minister David Lloyd George remarked at the time that this was ‘a purely mad’ policy developed ‘out of hatred of Bolshevik principles’. Stalin and Mao weren't genocidal maniacs like propaganda would have you believe. Georgians like Stalin because Stalin was the reason that Georgia and all the other Soviet republics became industrialized and he defeated the Nazis, saving the Soviet people from genocide and slavery. Furthermore, people in the USSR got free education, food, housing, and jobs. They could live without having to fear that tomorrow they wouldn't get food or be able to pay rent or to pay their child's school fees etc.

Grigori Rasputin1990 This is an ignorant comment but I will take the time to respond. The dated classification of countries as "first," "second," and "third world" was never a good one.. Especially because most countries contain elements of the ""third world"" - you can spend all day watching clips of impoverished and decimated American cities and towns that are far more ""third world""-looking than what you see in this video. Nowadays people most often refer to "developing countries," the "global south" etc... Notably because "the second world" referred to the Soviet Union, China and state communist countries. Im assuming that you didn't know that. This is related to the reasons that some older Georgian people have issues around dealing with that history as shown in the above video... Georgia was part of the Soviet Union only a few decades ago; you are still using a cold-war-era classification -a propagandistic one... Underlining the relevance of these issues outside of Georgia.. Thanks for reading...
