@@brianmead7556 The sad part is that D&D Star Wars would probably have happened if they finished Game of Thrones properly. Maybe the timing wouldn't have been right and they would have had to back out of that project, but when they finally finished Game of Thrones, they'd have accomplished so much that they could easily pitch an idea to Lucasfilm. Now they simply don't have that much cred as writers anymore.

Usually tv shows ends badly because they continue to make seasons when there's no story to go on. GoT is the first time the opposite happens

There's shows like Supernatural that went o for too too long, there's shows like GoT that ended too soon, and there's shows like Firefly that didn't even get a chance to end. I use these 3 shows for the different ways a show can be ruined.

They aslo invented a nonexistent storyline to rape and torture sansa but left lady stoneheart from the show all together. The two ds ( D&D will always be dungeons and dragons and should never be used to refer to these worthless hacks) have zero talent zero imagination and zero integrity. As soon as they ran out of written material the show goes to shit. They cut whole plotlines characters and changed everything to jerk off internet theorist

Essentially, they compiled 3-4 whole seasons into one single disaster of a finale season

@@LAVATORR its really could have been legendary if all were on board, but they took the money they were given and exposure and left. Thing is, something feels off when they can't see or are to bored with this guys lore... it really shouldn't be hard for people to want to keep going when there's more than enough material. I mean this thing would have replaced bold and the beautiful and other soaps that go on for 20 seasons... sure it may not have hit 20 but it would have raised a storytelling standrard. It's a shame.

That's not throwing shade. That is an incredibly polite and professional writer acknowledging what everyone already knew - that the series could have kept going had it not been for D&Ds wishes.

Throwing shade would be if he, subtly or otherwise, complained about how D&D were acting unprofessionally or that they had done a poor job, or saying anything negative about them. What GRRM's comments boils down to is "These guys didn't want to work on it anymore and have a life, and that's fair enough." The only reason this video is titled this way is because the uploader has a massive well known hatred for D&D and is very open about it.

I heard HBO wanted 10 seasons, while D&D wanted only 7. HBO managed to make them stretch it to 8 seasons, but then they decided to shorten the number of episodes per season. HBO wanted the show to continue, but seeing as D&D didn't want to run the show past season 8, they decided not to hire new writers because they thought it was too much of a gamble concerning viewership. A dumb decision if you ask me, but anyway.

Agreed. Dany becoming a mad queen almost instantly and her subsequent quick death didn't do her character justice whatsoever. Her heel turn should have been more fleshed out. Unreal how such a great show was ran to the ground like this.

Agreed. I was ok with how Dany went mad until the finale. The explanation given in the show just did not make sense with her character. I also would have liked some more buildup for the Night King's death. I also wished Bran would have been given more screen time since they named him king. The season was not bad but very subpar for GOT.

They had to decide well before hand if they wanted to do 10 seasons or more as the actors would look too old. They aged perfectly for the roles they played but if they played them longer they'd be too old I guess

Danaerys decent in madness after the aftermath of taking the throne and all she had lost to do so should of been its own season. The long night should of been the last season with the aftermath and wrap up as the last 2-3 episodes

@@JohnCortelli really, they started messing up since season 5, they completely started deviating and cutting random things in that season. Before that, all they did was some minor cuts which weren't important. Then, they completely messed up S5. S6 instead, at least for me, was one of the most entertaining, even if it started to be pedictable. What i wanted to say is that, if they kept listening to GRRM, seasons 5-8 (33 episodes) could have been seasons 5-13 (90 episodes). They cut 2/3 of the source material GRRM gave them and completely rushed making it a mess.

A perfect GOT for me: Season 1-6 pretty much the same, but also with a proper Dorne plot. Season 7, Dany arrives and she starts a war, setting the seeds for her going mad. Cersei acts like her father and makes a bunch of strategic moves. Ends with the white walkers destroying the wall. Season 8 .The white walkers attack but they reach much further than Winterfell. Dany and Cersei continue their war and maybe Highgarden and Dorne play a much bigger role in the war. Also the Greyjoys and other Houses help the war effort against the white walkers. Dany, who has shown many hints of going mad at this point, helps defeat the white walkers and falls in love with Jon. Season 9. The Cersei-Dany war now is front stage and but it involves more than 2 sides. The north recovers and in the last few episodes helps Dany, who has gone full mad at this point. The season ends with The destruction of King's Landing. Season 10. Dany breaks up with Jon but lets him live. She puts her plan of "freeing the whole world" in motion. A major battle happens with Highgarden and/or Dorne, in the first episodes, wickening both armies. Dany wins. She Starts going towards the north. The ninth episode (yes all seasons have 10 episodes) ends with Dany army fighting the northern houses, The Vale and the Riverrun houses, somewhere in Riverrun. There are "good" and "bad" people on both sides of the battle, kinda like the battle at blackwater bay. Jon wins and Sansa, who has shown true leadership skills from saving the north from starvation after the white walkers attack, sits on the iron throne. Jon becomes King in the North. Also the war feels much more like season 3. Where a lot of small battles happen of screen. It only needs 3-4 major battles to work

season 8: night king war season 9: the mad queen season 10: the wrap up Dropped a huge ball D&D....

@@MayhemTyphone I think it would be nice to end season 9 with Daenerys ascending on a throne and season 10 (maybe consisting of 5-6 episodes) would show us her way of rulership as a ruthless, but effective and in fact bringing peace and obedience due to her cruelty. It would be great bitter-sweet ending, because we would see that she can build a better world but we would still back up killing her due to the methods she choose.

Allstillwell I’d say The Mad Queen arc should have come before the Long Night. That Long Night was supposed to have wiped most of Daenerys armies and would have in fact slaughtered most of Westeros even if it was won by the living, it’s only by a plot stretch that D&D kept this many unsullied/Dothrakis alive.

Anybody knows about the artists contract? Mybe the contract only says 7 seasons, and they couldnt pay them as ALL of them became popular, so they could only pay for one more season

The reason they did 7-8 like that is because there supposed be 10 seasons but they wanted 7 so they split season 7 in half basically into 7 and 8. Blame it on D&D because they wanted the show to end.

honestly I am pretty happy that the last season found an end now. It was quiet painful to watch a show for nearly ten years, always wait a year or two between the seasons and then see it rushed down like that. 10 Episodes in the Last season wouldn´t have made it better. It already started in season 6 and 7 and season 8 was the meltdown

The Night King had one of the biggest build ups for a TV show; from literally a myth to a world ending apocalypse. Ended. By Arya. In a 10 second stab. To then entirely ruin Varys character - alongside rush Danerys into becoming a mad queen which didn't seem right at all. Jon Snow banished to the Nights Watch? This had potential to be one of the best TV series of all time - it literally earnt that title from all the build ups from Season 6/7 to then be thrown down the drain. Its one of the worst disappointments I've had watching a show; the writing was sloppy and rushing it how it was is the stupidest decision.

I saw it coming, every time she had to lay down some serious punishment, her initial idea was considered brutal and they convince her to do something else. That happens 3-5 times before she kills the Tarly's where she did not back off her initial brutal response. That was season 7. Then the death of Missandei(sp?) was the straw that broke the camels back.

it's refreshing to see someone who can create an entire universe and still maintain a certain professional distance. He's not obsessed with it and he doesn't have so-called tunnel vision. He is able to separate the business from his passion and he recognizes that he is working with professional actors, producers and so on. He leaves emotional attachment and narrow-mindedness to the fans. He remains businesslike and professional. I respect that very much.

season 8: Night King season 9: Cersei (season10: daenerys) so we would have a smooth 10 seasons series with enough time to answer all the questions we had....

There was so much story left to tell. It should've been 10 seasons MINIMUM with every season being 10 episodes. The final 4 episodes of the show could've been expanded into 3 seasons alone.

They didn't adapt 4th and 5th books correctly at all and cut about 70% of the material in those books... There was so much potential after season *4* not 6. 3 made a huge mistake though in dragging out the long and stupid Ramsay and Theon torture scenes which could have easily been covered in one while the rest of the focus would be on the ironborn and the death of Balon, paving the way for the king smoot season 4.

They were making up the show themselves past season 5, because GRRM stopped writing the books. Nothing got squished into the last seasons. GRRM never wrote anything that happened in the last 3 seasons.

12 seasons would’ve been just right imo. First of all, I doubt the actors were tired of playing the same characters - a) the coins they were getting more than made up for that b) there’s nothing better for an actor than to score a role in a long running series because it means you’ll never be out of work as long as the series is on, and c) while season 8 attempted to bring closure to the main characters, D&D failed horribly by rushing towards the end which totally ruined the individual character arcs and any character development from previous seasons. I’ll never understand why HBO didn’t fire D&D and replace them with other writers. Would that be too much of a risk? Is there a shortage of good writers for TV? I’d rather have writers that are enthusiastic about the series’s world and characters than those that have burned out and are sick and tired of it. Season 8 is a huge stain on GoT’s legacy. It deserved an EPIC ending.

Its not fine George, not for me, the awful quality that D&D brought for season 7 and 8 doesn't honour the quality of your books

I rather wait 5 years for a new season with book adaptation than the shitty work D&D did.

That would have been confusing but... 1. they had to switch some actors anyway and so there was some confusion already. 2. more actors would have gotten the GoT spotlight for their career. 3. The aging would be less of a problem. Well by the time the books come to an end Arya might still be younger than Maisie was in the first episode of season one.

Stop being childish, writers and actors are people and like to have lives and working so many years on a single project is very demanding. Yeah, it was rushed and may have ended too early, but expecting 10 seasons is just unreal.

The higher ups at HBO wanted it to be 10 seasons too. It was on the table, offered to them. Not even a maybe, a definitely. And they turned it down. As GRRM said, it was originally slated for just 7 seasons but they all pushed them into 8.

LFgoodVideosFM both D & D got hired to write for Star Wars HBO was willing to spend and pay even asking to do at least 10 episodes this season. D & D turn them down. You can tell by their writing they are tired of the show.

He's being so classy and genuine about the whole thing.

What pisses me off is that if Dan & Dave only wanted to do 7 or max 8 seasons and then do star wars… just hand it over to new producers who are excited and invested and happy to continue???

I love GRRM. He is such a lovable, delightful, gifted guy and it’s such a shame that Dumb and Dumber weren’t more respectful to him.

During this covid pandemic i could use winds of winter and dream of spring now more than ever. Started reading the books in 2014-15 and havent put them down ever since. Currently re-reading the hedge knight, going to have to move on to Nightflyers for a change of pace I suppose. I love Martin’s descriptive writing so much. The Game of thrones show doesnt even scratch the surface as good as it was (minus season 8). I am glad he doesnt feel pressured anymore with the show done but we all still worry and love his work!

Only thing worse than the season 8 ending is knowing it could have kept going... By a lot.

Yeah it would have been super great to have Maisie Williams reach 40 before they finished the show, she would have been a great teen Arya huh? .... It has to end at some point... That's it. Read the books if that moron ever writes the last ones, busy as he is, shitting all over people he left with 4 hand-written notes to end the show. He is more the problem here than the show runners.

Then maybe he should have given them some fucking source material to work with. The deal was for the two idiots to adapt a show based on the books. He hasn't written anything related to 'a song of ice and fire' since 2011. Yeah D & D ruined it but they obviously didn't have a clue what they were doing and were too arrogant to admit it and GRRM is partially to blame for that. Perhaps he should stop working on the other 20 random projects.

Charlamine Intervention yeah he definitely should have had Winds of Winter out by now, especially since he’s been doing so much other stuff other than writing it. But there’s a lot of book material, especially from books 4 and 5, that D&D cut out, cut short, or completely morphed into something else. They really needed to have fAegon, and Euron’s character from the books, not the stupid simple-minded horny pirate on the show.

For one there was more than enough source material in just the books for 12-13 seasons, like grrm just said if you could have been bothered to watch the video. Secondly, if the writers were too inept to do their job, that is to write, when they had already rushed through or cut most of the content from the books they had, they should have passed it to someone capable. It sucks that we don't have the books yet, and you can be mad at grrm for that seperately, but it's not his fault the show sucked. Personal responsibility, their actions are their fault. Don't defend them, you fucking tube sock.

HBO offered D&D more seasons, but they refused it, they are now "too good" for TV, they wanted to get that Start Wars deal, and rushed the end of GOT.

They would also star in movies, like Kitt, Masie, emilia etc while continuing game of thrones. Each season had at least $60 mill+, an established fanbase since it was the most popular show on earth and room to grow story wise, alot of writing material and the whole network behind them since GoT kept HBO in the streaming business while now, GoT was rushed by DnD because they got bored, HBO is facing millions of cancellations, westworld failed as a franchise and the actors are all out of work. This is all on the show runners.

ya no pressure at all other than trying to finish up the most popular television series of all time without the source material because George wrote himself into a bind and doesn't even know how to finish the series himself. funny enough they are moving from one toxic fanbase to another one in Star Wars.

Honestly I didn't want many seasons I just wanted enough to feel like a perfect conclusion!

Martin supported more seasons, HBO wanted more seasons and was willing to give as much money as needed, dumb and dumber wanted out as they knew they could not keep it going and they had a new star wars films they wanted to do.

@@ren-kj6ho Oh yea, that was great! They rushed GoT ending so they could leave and make the Star Wars trilogy, and because of how shit season 8 was they cancelled the contract! So we got a shit couple of rushed seasons of what once was amazing show, and they lost their future jobs.

"They won." Well, it seems like everyone lost to me: - The GoT fans lost, since we've all seen the show being killed, several times, with very strange writing - D&D lost, since now, not even Star Wars fans want them. In fact, I don't think anyone wants them for anything, really.

He doesn't even know how it all plays out lol. He never finished the books. He did supposedly gives them his ideas of where he wanted it to go and how he was thinking of ending it but he's criticised all of their decisions and while I'm not a fan of how they did it at all(very lazy and rushed), he has no one to blame but himself for not writing the books.
