Fact - the video was lip synched. The recording had happened earlier, and George Michael begged the recording company (Sony) to release a video of it. He knew it would be gold. So they recreated that night for the video.

It's SO POWERFUL watching this, so SO many times on You Tube over the years, and just now in a completely different light .. can't possibly express how sad I am (tears in my eyes) .. it must have been completely off the scale to have been there, in the room, as it unfolded, with all those people .. and for Elton to walk out on stage .. did you have any idea that was going to happen? Thanks for sharing. I do remember reading that this was filmed in Chicago. :-))) ... (To George .. so, SO sad .. love you forever ... )

No, I did not have any idea. In fact, my friend and I had tickets around the 30th row but when we got to our seats, they were blocked off with cameras and filming equipment. We told the usher standing right there that those were supposed to be our seats. He just smiled at us and told us to follow him as he walked us way up to about the 10th row where our new seats would be. We were pretty excited as you can imagine and asked him what was going on. He said they were "filming something special tonight." I will say this was one of the absolute loudest concerts I have ever attended and especially once George announced Elton, it was so deafeningly loud that honestly, we could not even hear what they were singing after that point. They must have really toned down the crowd noise substantially to make this video. Exact date was October 20, 1991.

I seen Elton John in Nashville Tennessee and he sang for the whole 4hours and he had no One to Open up for him and I could see why beautiful

There's something in George that has kept me from taking my own life after my son died. Nathaniel meant everything to me. But George's lyrics give me strength that I didn't know I had. It is eerie considering he attended her funeral, only to die 19 years later. Poor Elton to lose two dear friends before their time. George's comment is sweet. I sure many of his fans feel the same way.

George has such a strong vocal!!

This duet came out just after I joined the Navy in 1991. I remember buying the cassette, and playing it over and over again as I was driving to my first duty station in Colorado. This song brings back a flood of memories as a naive 18 year old kid, scared to death to start life. This duet is truly a masterpiece.

Bruce Lee : My feelings exactly. George Michael's music brought me so much joy throughout my teenage/ 20's, 30's years. I have all of his albums except for "Symphonica". George Michael's death came as a shock..to the world..so sad. Not even members of his family knew he was reclusive and depressed. Praying for them.

I think, we all can agree that this is still one of the best live performances of all time!

This song remains as beautiful today as it was back then.I’m now 70. It was a horrible time for me BUT this song pulled me through and made me strong enough to face my demons. Love always, A Fan still, and forever.

Almost 60 yrs old and still can’t watch this without getting misty eyed lol. Doesn’t get much better!

Back then, fans had no idea that a guest star was going to show up, and the crowd was massively stunned when Elton came out on stage... I'd be honored if some George Michael & Elton John fans would take a listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of ROCKET MAN and PRAYING FOR TIME on my YT channel in tribute to these 2 musical legends. Obsessed with this. I really didn't get into George Michael's music until recently. My parents were traditional as I was growing up and he wasn't listened to for his lifestyle. After his death, I heard many clips of his music and also stories of how kind he was. So I listened to his songs and watched news clips on him. What a wonderful and profusely talented man! I only wish I found that out before his death. Glad he left his music behind for us to enjoy. Rest In Peace !

I think it's because the two of them just have that great of voices. Most singers sound horrible live, without the help of electronics most artists have poor vocals.

George is gorgeous in 💙(blue). It's only for a sec but love seeing elton's smile backstage before he comes on stage. This & george's duet with aretha & also his duet with whitney , superb 🔥🔥🔥

Still find it hard to believe George Michael is no longer with us. He will always be missed.

I was 13-14 years old when I first heard this performance on video on national television. Then I felt: yes, this is it, this is perfect. This is a performance that surpasses anything I've heard before in world pop music. Since then, I have been slowly discovering the genius of George Michael.

"Ladies & Gentlemen Mr Elton John" Best intro ever in any song & I love it.
